No, that's not it. Cami & Lili have talked numerous times about how this relationship does not follow the comics because they wanted to show a strong female friendship that doesn't center just around Archie. They've said repeatedly that B & V love each other. See my other comment in this thread for more.@@moon-yb6dt

The problem is that you are seeing scenes here out of context. Betty made that scene at the party because another character was manipulating her. She was trying to find the identity of a serial killer & he was contacting her telling her to do things & one of those things was to cut Veronica out of her life. Betty was in tears after that scene. Now, I would not have done it the way she did, but I'm not a teenager & I don't make stupid mistakes. I would have TOLD Veronica what was going on so that she would be in on it. That scene had to be so hurtful to Veronica right there in front of everyone! Just TELL her & agree that you will both ACT like you've cut her out of your life until you get whatever you need from this guy without him killing again. She eventually breaks up with Jughead, too, for the same reason. It has nothing to do with B & V being "frenemies". That was in the comics. Not in Riverdale. In S3, Veronica sacrificed her life for Betty by drinking poison that B was supposed to drink. Don't tell me they didn't love each other.

In the comics, they were always in competition for Archie. That was the cause of any hostility. Riverdale dealt with that in the first 2 eps by having them make a pact to never let some boy come between them again. Ep 1x05 ended with the narrator saying, "One thing was certain: Betty & Veronica, now B & V, and maybe forever, was forged." @@moon-yb6dt
