Fyi, the biggest clue of gyseric being skullknight is in the flashback of skullknights eclipse, or rather his last moment before he went berserk. You can see his eye, and its the same eye and expression he has in the panel gyseric gets revealed. That one glaring, almost stressed eye. Its the same in both panels.

This is something that drives me to the wall when people talk about Griffith. Griffith is directly responsible for every single moment of suffering and death we see in the manga. Once he joins the Godhand it all goes to shit. Him "making a Paradis" and "fighting evil" is entirely by his own making and doing. He pushed all this evil into the world so he could solve it. Millions of people are dead outside of Falconia and he saved a few thousand.

@Tranquil Dionysian: femto is the prefix given to scientific data that is equal to 10^-15 meters, time or other measurement. It is one quadrillionth of a meter in terms of distance. Although this is the case, I have a hard time guessing why or how this relates to Griffith. Nothing about what he does is small or has minimal impact. It could be a reference to speed as a femtosecond is incredibly fast, and throughout the manga there is a reference to blade speed when Guts swings the DS, just a guess though. Love your video by BTW.

Correction : The '16 anime isn't a continuation of the '97 anime but rather the GA trilogy. The GA movies ignore the '97 and redo everthing from scratch (OST, voice acting, character design, etc..) because of the manga's popularity. The studio who made the movies were going to adapt Lost Children but they faild at the box office so they gave it to a different studio. This is why it has the same Japanese voice actors, composer, the purple eclipse, etc...

I prefer their Animation better than 16 show tbh. The whole tone felt different than the Manga. The movies actually felt like Berserk even tho they rushed over key moments the show tackled, it was great to get a modern feel to the series if a caring studio would do Berserk with fantastic Animation. The 16 anime was just an action packed monstrosity that doesn't feel like Berserk at all. It feels like a cheap parody. The movies were far better but it actually was what I want in a sequel to Berserk. The movies are speed runs of the 97 series, they are still a masterpiece. The 16 anime has not passion what so ever.

The animation of Berserk (1997) is actually amazing imo. Yes I get what some people mean when they call it "dated" but what I really appreciate is that you can clearly see (and actually feel) the brush strokes the artists made. It`s painstakingly obvious that it`s hand drawn and I just can`t get enough of it for that reason.

1:43:37 I believe the name femto derived from "Phantom." This make sense with Griffith with the circumstances of his rebirth & arrival back to physical world, where everybody thought he died. Also related with how he can connect/control spirits too. Also, I am willing to bet there are some inspiration for Griffith from "Phantom of The Opera" or specifically "Phantom of The Paradise." It's a musical horror movie that involved great faustian theme, just like Griffith circumstances. The phantom character in the movie even have similar helmet design to Femto/Griffith! This is even more make sense when the word "phantom" itself derived from word "phantasm." YES, as you guessed it, Femto/Griffith is the very figure that bring forth the world of Phantasm/Fantasia back into Berserk world!!! Such an amazing references & connections by Miura sensei!!

I heard about Berserk from a Doom KZbinr who made a video on Doom Slayer with him explaining the inspiration of the character coming from Berserk and so I looked into it and then was interested. I ordered the first 6 deluxe volumes and when I first got them in I saw on Twitter around midnight Miura passed May 6th 2021 and I was in shock at the news and it’s been the most beautiful and refreshing experience of my life. I’ve read Berserk and have a new outlook on life from reading its inspirations as well. Ancient heroes of myth like Odysseus, watching videos of its inspirations in alchemy and mythology made me fall in love with the art of a man I never knew but I feel more connected to than I thought possible. Thank you Kentaro Miura for sharing your stories with us we all miss you.

Miura did seem like a fan of pro-wrestling, there are quite a few references to pro-wrestling mostly from Puck and most of them seem to be referencing the popular wresting in Japan during the 80s and 90s which makes sense as Hulk Hogan was said to have been even more popular in Japan than in the West. His Marriage to his ex-wife was even broadcasted in and took place in Japan.

Thanks so much for pointing out the 1997 Outtakes! I happen to be watching that series for the first time right now and I would have otherwise missed this (I almost never watch outtakes bonus materials, especially before finishing the main show.) It is even more hilarious since it's fresh in my mind and as comedy relief after some of the devistating nature of the source material. Loving the rest of the video too - I just recently finished the manga (at least everything written by Miura) but I am still a relative newb to the community. This video is helping me understand so much more fascinating stuff about my new obsession, so thanks again!

I’ve had my Brand tattoo since the end of 2013 early 2014. And every few years I get it touched up. Not to really keep it looking nice, but to keep it looking rugged/tattered looking. And I’ll never complain about Berserk/Kentaro getting more recognition that they absolutely deserve. But just a few months ago I was in the service desk line at Walmart and some dude asked me if If I knew where it was from. I replied back to him “Uh..yeah? I just told him “Too struggle. Army Of Darkness is more Berserk than Evil Dead 2. In The Evil Dead he’s forced to kill his possessed friends and girlfriend, then in Evil Dead 2 he has to fight the evil, get possessed, and cut his hand off. In Army Of Darkness he’s transported to the medieval dead and gets a weaponized robotic hand, ditches the chainsaw for a sword, and is forced to retrieve the necronomicon, basically a book that works like the behalit, but accidentally wakes up an army of demons led by an evil clone. He like Guts, struggles with his destiny, both same grumpy attitude, wear similar looking medieval gear, fights skeletons and demons, have met and gotten helped from sorcerers, get some sort of enjoyment from killing demons etc. Heck Ash was even going to lose an eye. Basically American Berserk with some campy cheesy 80’s comedy sprinkled in. Both underrated

I feel like there exists a better Biblical basis for Griffith’s character: Satan. While Griffith is portrayed as a savior that can commune with the dead and with spirits, Satan likewise can do the same things. Moreover, Jesus in the Bible is a perfect Son of God, sent to save humanity from their sins, which doesn’t exactly describe Griffith. What does describe Griffith is being someone who has “come out to deceive the nations . . . To gather them for battle, their number is like the sand of the sea,” which is exactly how Satan is described in Revelation 20:8 after a long imprisonment (much like Griffith, again). Furthermore, Griffith exists as the “Falcon of Light” in the manga, and Satan is believed in most Christian circles to be formerly the angel Lucifer, described in Isaiah 14 as “Day Star, son of Dawn,” a bringer of light. However, in their pride, they “said in [their] heart ‘I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the Mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’” That snippet of Isaiah, in my view, perfectly describes Griffith, his pride, and his great dream. This description is continued in verse 15, where it says they “are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit,” which again mirrors Griffith’s descent in both the Tower and also in the Eclipse. In essence, Griffith is an evil demon, the embodiment of all evil, that disguises himself as a bastion of light and life. However, this is a lie, and as Jesus says in John 8:44, “[The Devil] was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him, when he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of all lies.” In truth, both Satan and Griffith are liars that embody every evil of humanity. TL;DR: Griffith is more comparable to Satan than Jesus, as both were once beacons of light but are now icons of pure evil. Edit: Unlike the Paradise Lost comparison you drew, most of my Griffith and Satan comparison is based on Bible verses. This is more of a rebuttal to the “Griffith is God/Jesus” argument in the Bible section.

tbh Griffith did nothing wrong isn't just a meme. Griffith was a good friend up until the point he used the behelith and at that point he wasn't Griffith any more. He had a choice to either die cus he was completely destroyed and was unable to do anything or to sacrifice everything he's known so he can continue to live.. can you blame him for choosing to live? He's an antagonist by circumstance and not by being born an asshole, there's a big difference here. A lot of people would make the same choice

The 2016 anime was supposed to be a sequel to the 3 movies of 2012, where the eclipse already has passed. I don't like the animation, but I watched the 97, then the 2016, and then I read all the volumes. Fun fact: I started watching the 97 anime in October 2023, and I finished the manga on January.
