Greetings from Finland. My daughter lived in Istanbul for 6 years, so we visited there often. I love Istanbul. I recommend visiting there is a lot to see, good shopping opportunities and best of all the food is really good.

As an American I think Americans speak too loudly at certain times. People get mad at me for speaking in a slightly lower voice, but sometimes it is just distracting in a public place when some people are having such loud conversations that you cannot even hear other people talk. So, I definitely think this is something Americans should keep in mind when going abroad since even stateside we could use lower voices at certain times.

Never had any problems… Car drivers in Istanbul are very attentive towards pedestrians 👍🏻 And, of course, Turks are not Arabs ; ) Kurdish people (very friendly) too. Finally: visit a historical, non-touristic hammam like Gedikpasha Hamami…

There are many many useful tips. It is important that we remember/be consciously aware that we are guests in the countries we visit. Most of the tips are natural to me, but it really gave me a smile when I got to the escalator tip as it is one I really have to be mindful of when I travel . I know I should stand to the right and try hard to to do it, but I get caught on on occasion. I am left handed, so I automatically reach out with my left hand when stepping on and I'm Australian and we stand to the left.

I have been to Istanbul many times and I agree to your points. Also every time I hammer into people‘s minds to NOT EXCHANGE MONEY AT THE AIRPORT and they do it anyway - they are shocked when they see the difference in rates to what you get in the city. You can pay for a taxi or shuttle bus into town by credit card and then exchange money there. Also the crowds are real - I have been to Istanbul in 2020 and 2021 when it was possible to fly there and the way tourism has picked up again from these quiet times is astonishing. I‘m glad I went to Galata Tower last year (for the first time in 25 years) when barely anybody else was there. Also, Hagia Sofia is just as much a circus as the Blue Mosque now, everybody is just there to take selfies. If you really want to experience a mosque for the architecture and atmosphere, there are 3000 other ones you can go to in peace.
@BeryIstanbulTips
@BeryIstanbulTips 2 жыл бұрын
They do not realize it because they believe it is convenient doing it at the airport but once they see the huge difference they regret 😂 Yes, going to Hagia Sophia is not the same as before anymore, is impossible walking there now, I love the place but I avoid going there as much as I can, the other day I went there I even felt suffocated 😩 Süleymaniye is one of the most beautiful mosques, and also I’d add to your great suggestions Sokollu Mehmet Pasa Mosque, is just a couple of minutes away from Sofia but its interior is one of the most exquisite ones! 😍

Card in taxi? Where? You should not take a taxi anyway. I also got fooled changing in the airport but in the last trip i withdrew from the ATM in the airport and the fee was 10%, which was ok, the best fee i could find in the city was 5% and later they increased to 7.

Not really. They don't even have respect for a human life. Best example is when you crossing a street, 9 out of 10 will accelerate and not stop and make you wait. They dont care. Luckily there are many people who take care of the animals. But unfortunately also many who abuse the animals. This city is becoming more and more like a Mumbai in terms of level.

Very, very good advice. Especially get Istanbulkard first moment you can, never change money in an airport, and give small less touristy restaurants a chance. For example I lived near Haseki tram station in Fatih and everything was three times cheaper and just as good as in Sultanahnet. Even if a shop or restaurant is small, located on a weird tiny street and looks bad, it will still have amazing food and kind, lovely people in it. I never got food poisoning in Turkiye

Now of course, there would be no point learning everything about a destination before visiting it, but the tips and general vlogs helped me get excited and be more informed. The only update I would give to new travellers is to skip the blue mosque, go after lunch to Hagia Sofia and be prepared for heat.

The part when you talk about people destroying the gardens was so sad that I almost cried for some reasons. I HATE that. I don't understand it and I completely hate it when they do!

And the worst thing is that when somebody tells them not to step inside some feel so entitled that they start fighting back, we saw a few clips on the tv news back in that month, a reporter chasing those annoying visitors destroying the gardens for photos and they were also threatening her 😡 Awful behavior!
