how far out did you shoot the helmet from and was the deformation ever greater than 16mm?
@Icerise88
@Icerise88 5 жыл бұрын
it was at just about 7m. Deformation for .40SW was probably greater than 16mm, but i didn't measure the backface deformation.

@@Icerise88 Excellent thank you for letting me know. Not many KZbin creators have reviewed these helmets. the standard of 16mm 's is based off of being struck by a 9mm (9x19 I believe) so anything bigger than that wouldn't apply to the rating given to it by the Department of Defense. I was genuinely surprised that it defeated the .300 BLK. Well defeated is a loose term, you would still have a concussion and potential brain damage. Thank you for the review again. This helps me make my decision on what helmet to purchase.

@@TheMikeControl you have to take into account that the .300BLK was a sub sonic load. So it was much slower than a normal .300BLK. As far as it goes with NIJ III as fas as i know tests only conduct penetration but no backface deformation. (also this is important. and it is tested. but under another regulation, not NIJ III performance)

@@Icerise88 Right, I didn't think about that. I was just expecting the .300 BLK to punch through. The BFD regulation is a Department of Defense standard and not NIJ. This helmet is supposed to be NIJ IIIA which is supposed to be able to defeat .44 magnum. That is the NIJ IIIA standard.

@@TheMikeControl You Sir are totally correct. Of course it's NIJ IIIA and not NIJ III.
