I start my crochet chain the same way. It creates a slip knot when you twist your hook.

In tho photo of Well by the sea the cream colour looks very white? I am ordering my yarn now just wondering if it should be white or cream thanks

can you do the negative stitch in this? there are youtube movies to explain. the back of the blanket will be more beautiful.

You can if you wish. Personally I don't do it, as it takes longer, uses more yarn, and the resulting project is generally thicker and shorter, and can be quite stiff xx

A single blanket to starting needs 251 chains ?

The standard 90cm wide blanket needs 150 starting chains x

Is the * for repeat in row 4 in the wrong place?

It is in the correct place. Are you left-handed? If so, I put a note in the introduction file, which may explain things for you "For the symmetrical charts please note the repeat box indicated on the chart will be 1 stitch to the left of the repeat given in the written instructions, and the stitch numbers at the top and bottom of the chart should be reversed for you."
