I personally think the catapult is the best, for a few reasons: -Ease of production. The mechanical as well as structural components are basic and cheap, and could be easily mass produced. -Reliability. It shot straight at it’s target every single time. -Use case. While on it’s own, it can’t take down a fortress by itself, compared to larger and more complex machines you could easily have 3-5 catapults to destroy a fortress, as well as a small contingent of line infantry to draw fire while the catapults draw up close and fire Overall, a well balanced machine.
