Bessang Pass: Tagudin to Cervantes, Ilocos Sur

This 60+Km segment starts at Bitalag Satellite Market at the corner of AH26 & Route 205: Tagudin - Cervantes - Sabangan Road in Tagudin to Cervantes town proper. This will be passing Bessang Pass, & Maggon Eco-park And Wildlife Reserve both in Cervantes, Ilocos Sur.
The following towns & Points of Interests were along the way:
• Tagudin:
The first two sundials were constructed in Tagudin in 1841 and 1845, respectively, by Father Juan Sorolla. The decisive Battle of Bessang Pass started in this municipality, at Bitalag.
• Suyo is a 4th class municipality in the province of Ilocos Sur comprising of 8 barangays.
• Bessang Pass natural Monument:
The Bessang Pass Natural Monument is a protected area and memorial that commemorates the victory on 14 June 1945 by Filipino soldiers serving the U.S. Army Forces in the Philippines Northern Luzon (USAFIP-NL) over the Imperial Japanese Army in the Battle of Bessang Pass which led to Japan's eventual surrender and end to World War II in the Philippines.
Bessang Pass lies along Route 4, which is now known as the Tagudin-Cervantes-Sabangan Road (N205) in the barangay of Malaya. The pass lies on the southeast side of Langiatan Hill, which reaches a height of 4,000 feet (1,200 m). South of the pass, Mount Namogoian rises to 6,830 feet (2,080 m). East of Langiatan Hill is Magun Hill at 4,500 feet (1,400 m).
• Cervantes:
The municipality is officially the Summer Capital of Ilocos Sur. It has a relatively cooler climate than most of lowland Ilocos Sur due to its geographical location and proximity to Mountain Province and Benguet. The municipality is home to the Bessang Pass Natural Monument.

Route 205: Tagudin - Cervantes - Sabangan Road is Good to Fair with repairs on some stretches. Be aware that this is a mountain road & rock/landslides are occurring so exercise caution. Views are breathtaking in some areas. Take time to see both Bessang Pass Monument & Maggon Eco-Park.

My great grandfather owned that horse Gen Gregorio del Pilar rode on when he was shot by an American sniper in their encounter at Bessang Pass.
