As someone who has used the Logitech combo touch for three different iPads and now is using the Magic Keyboard on the M4 iPad, here is my suggestion if you’re going to have the iPad “docked” and never just holding the iPad itself then get the magic keyboard, if you’re going to walk around with the iPad by itself and don’t need the keyboard for some portion of time then the combo touch. Taking the iPad off the Magic Keyboard and walking around with just the iPad feels like holding a new iPhone without a case.

I tried the Magic Keyboard for my new iPad Air M2, but I did not think it was worth the money and returned it. I ended up buying the Logitech Combo Touch and I think it is a better value overall. It works perfectly, and I do like the function keys the bigger trackpad and the case protecting the iPad when not using keyboard.

Is this on any previous gen? Like the boards and connectors aren’t somehow serialized? I was wondering this because my keyboard is fine but the rubber case began to lose it’s shape and fits very flimsily on the iPad now (iPad Pro 11” 2020). I just need to find a replacement for the case alone and not the keyboard as well

I am looking at options to Apple Magic Keyboard. However, I do not like having to put it into a case because I cannot plug my Hyperdrive into the side.

But the Apple keyboard automatically connects to the iPad seamless. I think Apples keyboard charges with the tablet when charging the tablet. With the Logitech do you have to constantly turn the keyboard on or off? Do you have to charge the Logitech keyboard separately?

Hey Kimberly! You don’t need to charge the Combo Touch separately. It connects to your iPad Pro using the Smart Connector on the back, just like the Magic Keyboard.

I've used the Logitech for my 11" iPad and have trade up to a 13". I highly recommend the Logitech. Great keyboard. Would love to see the new Magic Keyboard pro come to the air. Much better keys than either. I also had the Magic Keyboard for the 11". I agree that if you are going to dock the iPad for long typing periods, the Apple Magic Keyboard is a better keyboard. But if you primarily are using the device in portrait mode for reading, and occasionally typing (as I do) the Logitech is a better choice. I also use the iPad for music reading, in which case it is almost always portrait mode. Find I rarely use the Magic Keyboard.

I ended up with the magic keyboard after trhing both. The logi trackpad was actually too big and i was accidentally hitting it all the time when I was typing. It got very frustrating. Also the build quality is noticeably lower quality than the magic keyboard. I am far from an Apple fanboy, but the magic keyboard just had the look and feel I was going for. I just wish it had a way to protect the iPad when it's out of the case

@@jessechristman1471 agreed. Far from an apple fanboy myself too, but I definitely agree with you regarding build quality. Build quality on the magic keyboard is just absolutely premium. The look and feel of the combo touch's keyboard feels a bit flimsy in comparison. However, my biggest dealbreaker with the combo touch was having to deal with the kickstand. I tend to use the ipad in my lap. While you can make it work, and it's not that bad, I just found using it in my lap was easier with the magic keyboard. So build quality + lapability was better, and I could still use the iPad in tablet mode with the magic keyboard by just taking it out of the magic keyboard and placing the iPad with the magic keyboard closed so I didn't feel like I needed to compromise anywhere with the magic keyboard.

I’ve always used a Combo Touch. Just picked up a brand new one for the air 13” for usd160. New. ‘Twas a no-brainer! Having said that, watching your video reminded me there is no Esc key… oh well. More an issue when doing spreadsheets perhaps. I’ll survive. 😊

The case has the same physical dimensions but it (likely) doesn't have the cutout for Touch ID So you could use it but Touch ID would not work.

Yes, you can use an older iPad with the new Combo Touch. The first two holes of the speaker grill are cut off, but that's it.

Hey there! Physically, it fits fine; however, there's no cutout for the Touch ID sleep/wake button. That means if you put your 13" iPad Air in last year's Combo Touch, you couldn't unlock it using Touch ID. You could always "tap to wake" the screen but still no Touch ID.

Is the keyboard on the combo touch able to fold behind the iPad when using it in tablet mode (instead of disconnecting the keyboard completely)? seen some reviews of older models where they say the keyboard connector would disconnect when folded back.

Yes, it folds back without having to detach the keyboard, but you can also detach the keyboard, turn it around, reattach it and then fold it behind the iPad if you don't want the keys facing outward when the keyboard is folded behind the iPad. I find that the be the most convenient option when reading on the iPad, other than simply detaching the keyboard altogether.

Practicality, so you can control it without having to move your hands too much, just like a laptop. My touchscreen laptop's trackpad broke and I have been using it for about a year as if there was no trackpad and I got use to it but it's still very annoying. I guess opinions differ but im sure that most ppl want a trackpad, especially a big one like this one.

I bought the combo touch for my new iPad Air M2 and had to return it to the Apple Store as the trackpad wasn’t working when i opened the iPad up, although the keys were. I had to detach the keyboard and reattach it to the iPad in order to wake the trackpad up. The Apple Store tried to troubleshoot this for me but ended up just replacing it. However I’m finding the second combo touch is doing the exact same thing. I’ve contacted Logitech support but am still waiting for them to get back to me. Has anyone else experienced this? Obviously pretty disappointed so far.

I've had the same issue. Just got combo touch for my M2 iPad Air. I tried fiddling a lot with settings, turning on and off the "full access" keyboard settings or whatever it's called. Found it's best to have it off, otherwise the keyboard pops up on the screen. I had to reconnect the keyboard the first few days to "reactivate" the trackpad, but I haven't experienced the issue since. Don't really know why, but now it's working fine. A problem I do have, though, is the Logitech Control app doesn't recognize the keyboard, so I can't update firmware.
