I disagree with the lateral glide because it's very useful when you use it to take more time to read defenders movement, and there are bunch of moves you can use of a lateral glide depending on how the defender reacts to it. (e.g. crossover, hesi, cross jab, or just blow by)

It's effective to use if you are away from your defender but if the defender is near he can steal it. Lateral glide is an easy to steal. But you can lateral glide far away and the second lateral glide is short and crossover or lateral glide and step back or escape or snatch moves

Interesting. I guess it could be broken into two categories: 1. Off the catch 2. Off the dribble. The btb i wouldn't have as top. The wrap around is different than btb..i think the 1st example was btb the rest were wraps. I agree off the catch the rocker/body jab is crucial if defender is in range. Off the dribble there really isn't a superior move...if I had to pick it would be mastering the pocket dribble as most of the off the dribble moves come from the pocket unless they are straight crosses. You didn't have spin move in the ranking. I would add spin off the dribble and catch (in post up/back to basket) as an A move. Nice take though overall.

Your YT channel is amazing. Thanks for all of the great content! Have you ever thought about making a video on confidence / the mental game? I drill a ton based on these vids but as soon as I step on the court it's in one ear and out the other.
@CoachFrikki
@CoachFrikki 2 жыл бұрын
I think that the only reliable way to get more confident is to get better at basketball. Get more athletic, more skilled and smarter. And confidence will follow. You don't want a bad player to confident. If your drills aren't translating then change them up. Play more 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, they help way more than 1v0 drills. But if you're alone then imagine a defender (or multiple defenders) and react to what he does. Might make a video on the mental game one day. Not soon though.
@mythicalsunlight

@@CoachFrikki I hear ya. I do play 10x better when the stakes are low. I am calmer, take my time, and apply the stuff you teach. It's when there are guys on the sidelines and everyone is yelling and taking things really seriously that I don't move at a pace that's appropriate for me and hand off the ball even when I know that I can get a shot. Think playoff Randle, heh.

Good work man, you are really good to show the how to make a move and when to make, for me the S class is simple move like Jan,Rocker step, negative step,fale shot because the modern game you nerd to use that moves in closeouts
@jackreacher3708
@jackreacher3708 2 жыл бұрын
Honestly I feel like thinking about dribble moves in this way is flawed cuz moves are built off of some primary threat, and then counters to those For example, an in n out dribble is only effective when the threat of the push cross is more apparent, so to have an effective in n out you need to have a nasty push cross that defenders fear. You can see the same with basically every triple threat move: strongside ripthrough > jab step > rocker step It might be better to think of dribble "moves" as sets of moves instead, for example, out of a hesitation you have the blow by (primary), cross (first counter), and then the hesi into a shot (counter to first two if defenders sag off) so they're all technically from the same move which is a hesitation Just look at kd, he got a nasty hesi because he can smoke you with every single level of that move That said, my picks for the best movesets would be the triple threat series and the hesitation (granted, these are mainly primary level moves and don't really work for changes in direction mid-drive, but if you can't get past your defender initially you can't do secondary moves anyway) Ripthrough, jab step, rocker step, just shooting out of it (which opens up the pump fake) - literally no "dribble package" needed since you're holding the ball, so it's both simpler and easier than any dribble moveset while giving you time to make your decisions - there's a reason most great scorers (jordan, kobe, kd, melo, Tatum etc) are said to have perfected the triple threat: simple is best I already explained the hesitation and all it's counters, and I like it because it gives you all the options just like a triple threat and you can flow into a hesitation from just about any dribble, or even mid-drive I enjoyed the video, it's nice to see these kinds of analysis videos on basketball to help people learn more about the game; keep up the good work.

I give your writing piece a D. first know one asked. Second I agree that you need a bag and that all moves are important because they all work together, but this is addressed in the video. Thirdly no one gives a fuck what moves you think are good, the moves in the video seem to be based on their risk reward, effectiveness and other factors. Fuck rating them of what is a “primary move” cause then a normal ass dribble is S.

Really well explained. Idk if you were trained or if you're just a big basketball fan but the way you explained it is how I explain it to every kid I teach. I teach all moves as a group of skills. Like you said, the in n out and push cross... I also teach the spin with it since it forces them to learn how to "pull" the ball back as the opposite of pushing the ball across

Push cross needs to go up to A+. This initial analysis is great on most of these moves, but you need to also experiment with them yourself to know for sure how and when YOU can use them. For example the push cross opens up shots, not just for blowby drives. Push cross into a delayed stepback, or tying a stepback or delayed stepback or one with a delayed gather as is common can be a great counter to many of these scenarios in the video. It's about being able to react to the defense and that only comes from 1.) having the skill to pull out ANY move (coming from PERSONAL creative exploration), and 2.) Experience playing and using them, and YES getting the ball stripped many many times trying. But also don't give up on a move in a situation just cause it got stripped a few times, learn why: maybe perfect the move or the timing or the counter. Put in the work, enjoy the movement of it and explore. The best players explore and experiment on their own because they love the feeling of just being out there with the ball and have active imaginations. Also, learning to jumpstop LONG and deliberately THROUGH gap defense solves many of those scenarios. Not enough players can transition from ANY move into an aggressive jumpstop with a HIGH pickup through D and I've found a lot of success splitting doubles with it when the D is at the elbow or below. (pickup depends on the helpside D hand placement and height). Also, if you pick up the dribble with both feet in the air you can legally retain your Pivot foot creating easy counters in the paint with the pivot out then step through.
