I have the 40v in my 06 S4 special edition. Very similar engines yet also some major differences. 32v has FSI direct injection, 40v has port injection

The timing chain issue is more of a problem with the S4 than the RS4. S4's timing chains are basically made of plastic while the RS4 proper metal timing chains.
