Do you want to make money by 3D printing products? This technology may be intimidating, but the industry has innovated a lot in the last few years to make printing for yourself or your business much more attainable! Over the last few years, I've used many printers and built a pretty diverse print farm. I hope this video helps you learn a couple of things about some of my favorite printers and the reasons why I decide what to keep, use or sell.
I use my 14 printers to make dozens of products for tool organization. Check out my products for Milwaukee Packout, Dewalt Toughsystem, Flex Stackpack, Klein Modbox, AND MORE Below!

As someone who's been into 3D printing since 2012 and I have my company, it is very important to minimise variety within your farm. Let's say you have a farm of 50 3D printers, you should have at max 4 different types/brands. This ensures that your quality is consistent and spare parts are at minimum. Prusa printers are a workhorse and I recommend them, one good thing about bed slinger type of printers is that you can automate the process and print/eject easily. Recently we have added Bambulab printers to our farm and they are quite good after adding a few upgrades.

I agree. Even though the maker has good information on his printers, I'm amazed at the amount of different types. Next to your points I'd also argue that the learning curve is annoying if you diverse much. At some point problems will start and if you have wildly different printers it's just more headache to get to know all their quirks and the required tweaks. I went with Sovol SV06 to complement my Prusa MK3S+ simply because they share a lot in design philosophy. I could have gone coreXY but I prefer next to my printers using standard parts and not a completely proprietary hotend also to also keep my software workflow simple, so BambuStudio is not for me until they dominate the market and I can migrate all printers to that.

What’s your advice on starting a print farm from scratch today?
@3DThird
@3DThird 7 ай бұрын
@johnwayne6775 it depends on your use case and the products you want to manufacture. Consider the size of your printers, material compatibility, if products require postprocessing, your budget & designing skills. These are some factors, but it really depends on how you want to establish your business. For my business, we're focused on making customised products in a short duration. So we don't do what many people do on KZbin & Etsy. We advertise our work to high-profile companies and showcase what we can make. They usually request things that are unique to them and sometimes it's a few pieces(

The bambu bed slingers are nice. I don’t think I’ll get one anytime soon since It’s easier to have all of the same P1 series printers in my farm but everything they make is good. Honestly I don’t know if my print failure rate was noticeably worse with the bed slingers( bambus still mess up) but the quality is better and they print parts so much faster it’s just easier to use the bambus.

I don’t think I do yet. If I was printing ABS I would worry more but pla and petg are safer. Once I move all my printers into one room together I’ll put an air filter in there but they’re spread out in my house right now so it’s not as big of a deal

Hi, I'm thinking about buying my first 3d printer. For now I consider Sidewinder x2 (its about 210 USD from bangood with coupons). I want the printer to be the most silent because it will print in my bedroom. I'm little worried about the support from banggood. My friend had a problem with this printer that after few prints, the surface of glass started to stratify. What do you think? Is it a good choice for a start?

It’s worth a shot. My bed was fine for over a year and then I just upgraded to a pei for about $30 to avoid any future problems with a higher volume of printing. I personally always liked the glass finish, just gotta dial in the first layer height

how well does the bambu lab print petg? I can't print petg at the limit of my old machine. Does the bambu make sense for petg? If it can print petg faster does it handle simultaneous printing well? ie travel 3/4 of the bed without oozing? Should I forget about printing petg fast if I care about strength? Thanks!

Printing PETG was such a challenge on my old machines…Now I don’t ever think twice when sending it to the Bambus. As long as a printer has an all metal hotend and is direct drive it should be able to print petg pretty well buttttt the bambus are next level

OG Ender-3 -- i am yet to see nicer print quality. No, i'm serious. It's something about the slow speeds, slow accels + bowden, yet precise motors which makes it capable of producing very very nice prints. ALSO, reliable and very very little maintenance required. I just had my Ender-3's gathering dust for a year in my garage, lots of dust etc. I simply dusted off, wiped with barehand the "carborundum" (anycubic ultrabase) print surfaces and started printing again. Just used a blower on the spools sitting there and off to races. 4 machines worked right away, 5th needed a hotend replacement (put in bi-metal throat .. hope it doesn't lower reliability!), 6th i did not bother to setup but all it needs is a new extruder by the looks of it -- hell might just work, but it has a BMG with stock firmware ... so no go.

I'm waiting for Sovol to make a Klipper version of the SV06 Plus, or for Elegoo to make a larger version of the Neptune 4. I was interested in an enclosed core XY machine but I mostly print TPU so I don't benefit from faster printing when the filament can't print that fast even with better cooling. I'm now leaning toward a less expensive non-enclosed bed slinger design that is more reliable and easier to service, with Klipper for improved print quality with a slight speed increase. We're seeing the first generation of Klipper bed slingers in the last few months but they're all lacking in a few key areas. Someone will market a Klipper bed slinger that checks all of the boxes soon. SV08 Plus? Neptune 4 Pro Max?

@@MrMadmazz - An SV07+ Klipperizing your SV06+ sounds like an excellent plan. My Neptune 4 Pro is the first Klipper machine I've had and I love Klipper. Being able to upload and print from a browser window is very convenient and saves a lot of time. It's light years better than the micro SD card shuffle I was doing.

I been running my sv06+ via PC since week 2 of my printing adventures. Never used the software that come with it since a friend with 8 years under his belt allowed me to run as his 2nd PC so I was lucky and had simplified3d from day added edit: down side is I've have 2 power outages that destroyed the prints all coz I didn't put in a SD card and click send to SD WHICH would have saved 2 prints during power spikes

@@MrMadmazz - I used Simplify3D for a couple of years when it was arguably the best slicer available. I'm a huge fan of free open source software and that was the only closed source software on my computer. I bought into the "buy it for life" free upgrades forever but that business model only works as long as the company is rapidly growing. The open source slicers were rapidly advancing and soon eclipsed Simplify3D in features and IMO ease of use. It's difficult to compete with an active open software development project where a lot of talented people all over the world are working for free. I was already wondering why I was sticking with Simplify3D when they demanded that I pay for the latest major release after selling me the software based on paying once and getting all future upgrades for free. I never liked the confusing method of managing profiles in Simplify3D that never improved the entire time I used it. Apparently, it wasn't confusing for the developers. Simplify3D was always a pain to install in Linux because it was trying to keep people from stealing it which made it difficult to install and use. It was always phoning home, again as part of its license management scheme. I doubt it was sending my STLs or other data to the Simplify3D team, but I didn't like it always being in contact with them. So when they demanded more money to keep using Simplify3D it was easy to switch. I think I installed PrusaSlicer. That's what I've used almost exclusively since then. I recently tried OrcaSlicer and it has much to recommend it, but I still use PrusaSlicer. All of the popular open source slicers are advancing rapidly, all these years later. Gotta love free open source software. I was a bit surprised to read your post about Simplify3D. I haven't read anything about it online since before I stopped using it and I assumed it had disappeared because open source slicers are better without the cost or hassles of proprietary software.

I wouldn't touch bamboo for a print farm. Have one sure, but not only do you have to use their slicer, they are one update away from preventing you from using 3rd party filament. "they said they wouldn't do that" I hear you say. Yes they did, but why add a feature if they have no intention of using it. Building a print farm with them means having a lot of machines you need to offload if they make the change.
