The cheapest 4k camera in this list is the Lumix TZ90 however it is by no means a slouch. It has a viewfinder and ring dial and can zoom in from 24mm-720mm.
The Sony HX99 has the same 24mm-720mm lens but has a better dynamic range of ISO 80-6400. It also is the smallest of these 3 4k portable cameras.
But which will be the best 4k vlogging camera with flip screen? The Canon has an even longer zoom of 24-960mm and has 5 axis stabilisation called IBIS.

What would be useful info to know about superzoom reviews in future is at what point the aperture changes. I like the idea of a super zoom for taking photo's at sports games so different focal range vs aperture values are really useful. 28-70 f3.3 70-100 f4 etc. Good vid

Thanks, very well explained I'm currently trying to decide between the Sony HX99 and the newer Panasonic TZ95 (has Bluetooth unlike the TZ90), is the Sony really better in lower light? I like the fact that it's more compact but the Panasonic apparently has a superior viewfinder (Canon is a no-no as I've gotta have a viewfinder!).

Heya, thanks for getting in touch. The thing to remember with these cameras is they all have a smallish sensor so will never be "great" at low light. I can vouch that sony is good at noise reduction in this area, maybe a dash more than others, but it is very marginal and both will do okay. You will notice more improvements in low light by moving up to the 1 inch sensor range of cameras such as the Canon G7X and RX100 range - the latter with viewfinder being more applicable to yourself. what i know is the TZ95 stabilization .. or Panasonic OIS works much better vs Sony's .. i dont own HX99, but am having 1" sensor of ZV1 and RX100vii. But i know HX99 is shaky and jittery from the other videos i've seen in youtube. So TZ95 will allow better slightly low light shooting due to this superb stabilization. the only thing I believe HX99 gonna be better is on the autofocus...

Hi Marlon, congratulations on your videos indeed. I have to buy a new camera and you are the only one who really helps me with his beautiful videos. I'm on a tight budget and I'm undecided between Canon SX740 HS vs Sony HX99 vs Lumix TZ90. I would use it especially for my travels around Italy and Europe as well as to photograph my dog. I like zoom and viewfinders but I wonder if the 20 mp of the canon is better than the 18 mp of the sony. I ask for your advice. thank you so much

Hi Luigi, thank you for your kind words. Really appreciated 🙏 Regarding your choice, if you can afford the Sony and want best image quality, I would suggest going with Sony. All 3 are great cameras and the Canon is maybe a dash easier to use but you will not notice the difference between 18 and 20mp. You will however notice the improved noise reduction in low light from the Sony. Otherwise, outside in Broad daylight they will all do a great job. Hope that helps finalise your decision. If you are out and about, any will do great with the zooms etc. Indoors, out of these 3, the sony will do slightly better. If you can afford it, look at the g7x mark 2 which has a 1 inch sensor and will have less noise when filming indoors.

This is very true, I never like going above iso1000 if I can help it but filming indoors with bad light can require it. My older canon 70d wasn't good above 2000. My new Sony a6500 seems to be a lot better even at 3000 but I don't use it unless In emergencies. I would hope these newer cameras are better but even then, still best not to use.

Personally I think a lot of decision making with cameras is based on the specs so I compare to help. Sorry this didn't help you but I am not currently offered free models from the camera manufacturers to test and would be very expensive to buy for each video. I hope one day to be able to offer demo photos videos with more gear but for now this is what I can offer. I am losing my mind trying to figure out which camera I should get. I would love some guidance! I want a camera that's main purpose is high quality home videos. I do not want to just use my phone. I have a 3 month old so he's wiggly and will soon be on the move so I imagine a camera with good IS will come in handy? Hi Katie, if video quality is your most important factor over zoom then I would suggest going with either the Canon G7X mark ii or iii or the Sony RX100 range mkiii upwards. These are still compact but have a 1 inch sensor in them which means they have better detail and are better in low light. They also both have very fast lenses which means better picture and video quality both both in daylight, night and indoors situations. I personally use the Canon G7X mark ii which has come down in price recently due to the newer model. It's still a great camera, if you want to see how well it performs check out my Jersey, Hong Kong or Mexico Playlists on my channel where you can see my vlog style videos mainly filmed on this camera (some shots in mexico and HK are filmed on my dslr). Not enough difference to warrant it! Get an Rx100 m1-3 or M5 if you shoot a lot at night, no point replacing Hx90V with Hx99 they aren't that different unless you must have 4k and 30frames/sec is jerky. Best off with 1080 at 60/120fps

The most important thing is the 4k crop for the canon. Its crop a lot when you shoot video in 4k. That is a deal breaker. You wont get near 24mm FOV using the canon. Total pass on the canon, sony is worth the extra money for that one feature alone.

HI I just need some advice please and help. I had the Olympus Pen 10 and while it was beautiful photos and video, because of my small tremor and Rheumatoid Arthritis in my hands, I found it hard to keep changing lens. I am a young 70 ish lady and an amateur so all the jargon and numbers baffle me. I am trying to find a good compact camera for photographing birds near and far, good stabilisation, good quality photos and video, touchscreen and flip screen although as long as it is a touchscreen doesn't matter too much about the flip, children running etc, good night shots, and I want to try the water running and looking like foggy thing 🙂. Being a pensioner I cannot afford a lot. Do you have any idea which compact camera would be good for me please? I did look online at the Lumix LX110 11, the Sony HX99, Canon SX740 HS, Panasonic TZ95 or is there any others you would recommend please? I feel my head is battered with having to look for one and all the makes and models etc, but I really would like to find one. 🙂

Hi Andria, I suggest you stick with the Canon SX740. Set yourself a sale price you are willing to pay for it and wait for it to go on sale. When the price you set shows up, grab it without delay. They don’t last long on sale. I do not know the Lumix LX110 so I will leave it out. If you’re referring to the Panasonic DC-LX100 II, I’ll also leave it out as it’s a thousand bucks. The Sony HX99 is a fine camera, $50 to $100 more expensive, and like the Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS70, really wants the operator to take the controls and make exposer decisions where the Canon SX740 has a much more user-friendly auto everything experience. The SX740 has a longer zoom lens meaning it can reach further out to spot your Blue Jays & Jan’s. No matter which you settle on, you should find a manual method of further stabilization like a tri-pod to help hold everything as steady as you can to get the sharpest snap-a-graphs of those woodpeckers and finches. Where they are all super zoom, they could all do the job. Make sure you zoom in enough and have your subject far enough away and you will get background blur from the zoom on the lens.

Heya, will it only be make up your doing? Either of these will work but you will need some decent lighting. If you can afford it I would suggest going up to the next range and getting rx100 (mark 3,4,5) or g7x mark ii... mainly because they have a bigger sensor which is better for low light, also the lens stops down to f1.8 which will make it easier. The Canon has 40 times magnification but is it not almost impossible to hold it steady as it does not have a viewfinder and has to be held at arms length. Whereas the Sony and the Panasonic can be held against the face to steady the camera.

I think you have hit the nail on the head here... It is difficult enough to keep steady at 10 times zoom. All these cameras have advanced stabilisation to help assist. You will stand better chance with taking photos than video at full zoom, especially if there is a bit of wind. Not sure the viewfinder is of any advantage with keeping it stable, depends how you prefer to operate. Personally for compacts, if the screen is good I feel no need to use the viewfinder, but if you find it helps you keep it steady then that may sway your choice on what to buy.

HI Gary, thanks for the comment. with all of these cameras, the inbuilt mics will be okay for general speech quite close, within 5 feet is fine. but you will always pick up surrounding noise. for the most part depending on what you are doing that is fine for family or even vlogging. I use the inbuilt mic on my canon G7X mark II quite often. Some of the cameras have a wind protector option which will cut a lot of the bass frequencies if it detectes wind. whilst this can be good, it also leaves inconsistent audio. If you are just getting started, its fine. but you can also pick up a cheap tie clip mic and with a $5 adaptor record audio in to your phone - I have made a video about how to do this. The Reddish tint could be a number of things, like how people are using it or applying filters/luts too harshly. that said, Canon are usually good with their colours of skin tones, it can make skin glow a little more red but in a warm nice way compared to a lot of other manufacturers (though they are all getting better now) The secret with this is not to turn the saturation up when editing as that is what will make it look really bad. So the mic`s on the SX-740 HS should be fine if I am producing a short video for friends and You Tube from my home , GR8 !! . I could understand how ambient noise would be a factor , possible even with an external shotgun mic on a hot shoe , but I like the compactness of the 740 and the focal range for taking pictures using a tripod . There was one video I was watching from another youtuber and he was doing a comparison between the 740 and the G7X with the 1" sensor and I could see the difference , but no flip up screen , but on flesh tones there was not the reddish hue , not a washed out red , just not as natural as the one with a 1" sensor , or could it have been that particular 740 might have been slightly off ?? Years ago I did a lot with my Canon AE-1 , but a side from my very old Sony DCS-P9 ,have let picture taking in the back seat so to speak , but would like to start doing informative vlogs / and maybe take the 740 in my car and just vlogging day to day life , like many vloggers , but I should be aware of ambient noise , could pick up car and road noice as well as vocals , truly thanks for your help. I really like the form factor of the 740 and although the FZ1000MKII has a mic input and 1" sensor , it almost seems like overkill for my needs . Thanks again , take care , Gary 

Heya, thank you. I think you are going to struggle to find anything much longer, especially cheaper than the canon sx740. If you want an even longer zoom you could try something like the Nikon coolpix p900 which has an x83 optical zoom, but it's a bridge camera so wont fit in your pocket, that is about 385 if you shop around. A middle ground for you may be the canon sx540, again a bridge camera with x50 zoom but you can get them for close to £200 which is in your price range. Panasonic also do one fz-82 which has x60 zoom, 4k at £330. Hope that helps, long story short, the ones in this video are best compact at lower end prices. The sony rx100 mk6 is best quality superzoom compact but that is over £1k. For cheaper longer zooms bridge cameras are the best route.

Just learned this the hard way... HX99 can only take 5 minutes of 4K video each time. TZ90 can record up to 15 minutes.

The tz90 is all in one and more portable.... however the 5000l has a bigger and better sensor. If you dont mind a bigger camera and using different lenses personally that what I would get between those two. The difference will be the 5000 wont fit in your pocket like the tz90 can.

He's probably never used any of the cameras and is just reading the specs. Judging macro performance from closest focusing is really telling. Macro at that distance are usually really difficult and closest focusing at longer distances are much more important for practical use. Also, judging dynamic range from ISO range is interesting to say the least as there dont have to be any correlation at all.

I am planning to buy the sx740 hs But I'm stuck deciding on buying the Canon 1500d or the sx740hs They both are at similar prices Which one should I buy the Dslr or the point and shoot ? Video is the main thing for me

Heya, well if video is your main thing, the 740hs does 4k but the 1500d does not. That said the 1500d has a bigger sensor and you can change lenses but is bigger and heavier. You will need to invest in other lenses in the long run with the dslr so depends how serious you want to take it. I'd probably start with the 740 and see how you get on from there if you dont have anything currently.

But the point and shoot camera is a little too beginner to me I've been editing for 2 years (mainly animations) I need a camera for green screening and cinematic travel videos !

Heya, their main feature is super zoom, which will be better than the zooms on camera phones. But overall photo quality will be better on the upper tier smart phones in 2021/2022. But these cameras cost less than half the price of those phones.

If I wanted a superzoom I would lean towards canon based on features and price point as I'm not fussed about the viewfinder. I think the Sony is a little too expensive and for that money I would and did buy the canon g7x ii instead.

Being brutally honest, phones these days are absolutely great. If you really want to get in to photography outside of phones, best to go to crop sensor or full frame and enjoy that experience. Whilst a lit of compacts are good, especially 1 inch sensor compacts, you may not see much difference between them and flagship phones, other than having a less processed image.

First time i like the canon sx740. See image i like the sony hx99, I see review canon 740 vs sony hx99. The sony 99 give more light on image. The face get details. And the panassonic is many shine, and long rang zoom image bad quality

Thanks for the reply, and your informative video. Maybe I'm old school, and used to travel with a (heavy body and multiple lenses) DSLR, but the past decade going more for well-featured lighter point & shoots, with a preference for the Canon Powershots. Mostly shooting with P mode not Auto, but like the versatility of full PASM options with good natural light aperture or tripod-mounted low-light long exposures. I'm not a blogger or a selfie-bloke, just want semi-pro options in a concise compact package. So hope Canon will come through with a next-gen product. As for smart phone cameras - meh? Rather stick with dedicated photographic apparatus. I currently live on a rice field in northern Thailand so zoom-in crisp vivid bird shots are also a priority. Cheers!

Sony HX99. How long 4K films. Only 5 minutes or longer?

Hi Kuhta-Kinte, depends on what you need to use the camera for, it can film up to 29minutes in 1080p but around 5minutes for 4k and slow motion. In general you wouldn't normally film slow motion for that long but 4k wise depends on your style of filming as to whether this is a deal breaker or not. For vlogging here and there, it should be fine. Longer interview style recordings probably not going to work in 4k though. Hope that helps.

If you don't need super zoom I would recommend the bigger sensor if you can afford it. As you say will defo help in lower light.

SX740 is absolute garbage for low light video - hard time keeping focus and tons of noise. Got the Lumix DC-ZS200 and it has been incredible - i don't even waste the space with 4K - full hd at 60fps looks amazing

@@Aid_Astra I would look for a display model or maybe one returned because someone didn''t like it to save a little on the price. I love shooting video with it - small enough to get into most venues without a problem and I use 720/60fps to save space. I personally like shooting 60fps better than 4k because to me its crisp and takes up much less space. The mic is not so great most of the time. One good thing is that it records so low, that you never get audio that is clipped. If you want to increase or clean up the audio, you can always use Audition or something similar to fix it pretty good.

When I refer to the 13 elements I am referring to the flexibility the lens offers from the wide to full zoom. I agree the rx100 m2 is the odd ball with mic input however, it is not a 4k camera which this video is focusing on. Sony have not put mic inputs in any of the newer rx100 range. But thank you for highlighting this for everyone reading as if that is a must have and you don't mind a slightly older camera then not much else can match it.

I was dying for a comparison of these three models. But the proof is in the pudding - quality of photo and video. Without seeing wideangle and zoom photo comparison, any camera review is virtually worthless in my humble opinion. I do outdoor wildlife photography and need the zoom, hiking & biking, and I need to see the photo evidence. Any likelihood of getting photos examples?

:) Which Canon is it? that surprises me that they are that bad. Sounds silly but, have you turned off digital zoom? Sometimes it looks like it is part of the normal zoom, but can be turned off in the menus.

The statistics are not always objective. In reality the Sony lasts not a bit longer on one battery charge, but way better. And the pictures look overall more crisp and more natural than for instead the Panasonic. That's not in the video. Stats on paper is not everything.

Yes, theoretical at this stage. I cant afford to buy all 3 cameras to help others but I can still advise based on my previous experience and help save time with checking all the specs. Thank you for your comment. I am a Sony owner so there is no bias here. I'm saying it because if it was a 5 axis gyro sensor, Sony would have mentioned it, which means it's probably less, something like a 3 axis which on paper does look the weaker one. If you have tried this and can recommend then that's great and appreciated.
