I hope you like this content and that it helps you plan your trip to Israel. I put a lot of effort into bringing you the best information I can about Israel. If you'd like to support me, you can do so in two ways: by buying my booklets and by booking your hotels through this link:www.booking.com/index.html?aid=808339 (or any other ones on my site www.travelingisrael.com). You pay exactly the same amount and I get a small commission that helps me develop and update my site. Thanks!

In summer 2009 the Jerusalem hostel saved my life. I've always been to the New Palm Hostel. But in 2009 there was a lot of hostility against Jews. So bad at the end that I had to fear for my life. A police officer said I should go to the Jerusalem Hostel quickly. I said they're full. The policeman made a short call and then said, I can now go to the safe Jerusalem hostel. I went to the Jerusalem Hostel and at the front desk I was told all the seats were taken. I groaned and said: Not good. Then I have to stay at the New Palm Hostel for my last 4 weeks. Then suddenly the receptionist told me that there was a place available for me. But that's just a bed in the doom. And I came with my luggage and had a wonderful time in Jerusalem for my last 4 weeks. Since then I have come to Jerusalem once or twice a year and I have only been to the Jerusalem Hostel, always the same bed. But in 2018 I did Aliyah from germany, now I live in Haifa. And whenever I stay in Jerusalem, I'm in the Jerusalem Hostel, Jffa st. 44.

Having watched a few of your videos and subscribed, I came across this one. I have visited Israel four times already, in 1976, and then again in 1993 (which by then the central gutter on all the narrow souks of Jerusalem Old City was concreted over - a great pity!) I returned in 1994 as a volunteer at a Christian Conference Centre in Isfyia near Haifa, and once more with my wife in the year 2000. Of the latter three visits, I stayed at the New Swedish Hostel located at Souk David within the Old City and not far from Jaffa Gate. A former hotel, it was a tiny, medieval building featuring a double bedroom (where I stayed with my wife in 2000) and several dormitories (where I slept in 1993 and 1994 when I wasn't in Isfyia.) The central kitchen/dining room/lounge/dormitory (all one small room) was rather cramped, but I found the hostel to be a great place to stay, meeting other backpackers and making friends whilst waiting for the cooking stove to be free. Very cheap at the time, the need to sacrifice privacy and luxury has resulted in one of the best travel experience of all time.

I did a video about special accommodation in the Old City. I agree, it is very special but usually not very comfortable - not easy to find, they don't have 24/7 reception and the facilities are not always the best..
