Commented already today on different flex vid, but I’m back to say you pointed out the main difference for me in the flex experience. I’m looking for an artistic look to the writing not an everyday writer when I flex. 💪😂 I love that Zebra G no matter how fussy it is! Thanks so much for all the research, and for pointing out how important the paper is.

I have two Himalayas with Ultraflex, and I am very happy with them. All I have to be careful is to store them upright, otherwise the ebonite feed leaks out quite a bit of ink. I also have 3 Jinhao 40# (#8 western) nibs in X159 and 9019 pens, and for some strange reason one of them flexes like crazy. It compares to my FPRs. For $5-8.

IMO, the Zebra G is like writing with a nail. Scratchy like fingers on a blackboard.

True. True. Also depends how much pressure I put on the paper, and what my angle of writing is.

Great video Shak. I have the FPR and am having it tuned to smooth the scratchiness. I write everyday corrospondence with it on a daily basis. I wonder, if the Gold Nib of the FPR V2 would be better? Your Toughts as you have both?
@Shak-MD4 ай бұрын
The Jiapor V2 nib is softer, but I like the steel better. My previous Flex-o-Flex video shows the gold version. It is a leaky mess tbh.

Great analysis Shak, this answered my question about if there was a flex nib that fit the V200.
@bethg702628 күн бұрын
So if I want to put an FPR flex nib on an asvine V200, do I have to have a V200 with a bock nib unit, or is there a way to make it work with the asvine feed/nib version?
@Shak-MD28 күн бұрын
Wishes with the asv. But the feed can't supply ink qell.

@Shak-MD that's fine, they have a couple of models that look nice so I'll just buy them as a whole pen :)

Fascinating, and informative Shak!! I have a V200, but got it with an Asvine nib. In that case, what would you say my options would be for replacing the nib with a Flex nib?? I was contemplating getting an FPR ultra flex and trying to get that to work. I did get a 10 pack of Titanium Zebra G's and I'm trying to reform the shape of one to fit the 6 mm feed of a Jinhao X450 (it's not quite there yet). I have plenty of feeds so if I screw one up.....
@Shak-MD4 ай бұрын
Get the bock 250 nib unit from FPR with a steel flex. It works great. Also, bock Zebra G from FNF fits. Bock unit fits the v200 that comes with Asvine.
@ArthurPhillip74 ай бұрын
@@zeus52452 the FPR ultra flex nib won't work in the regular Asvine housing unfortunately ...I tried as I had some extras. Gotta get the Asvine w/bock nib and then get the bock FPR housing/feed/nib ($55). It's worth it though. For $120 you have one of the best flex pens out there.

@@ArthurPhillip7 Actually no. I got the Bock compatible Ultra Flex nib unit and it was a direct screw in replacement for the Asvine nib that mine came with. That's the nib Shak was referring to and it is fantastic. As an update - another flex nib to try is the 2 tone Ultraflex with an Ebonite feed from Osprey Pens. I got it today (9-3-24) and installed it in a Gravitas Dinkey and it is better than the fine flex nib I got with the pen. I know, an odd combination of a #6 size nib in such a small pocket pen.
@ArthurPhillip73 ай бұрын
@@zeus52452 yep you are right! It will fit into any Asvine 200 whether you get the bock nib or standard Asvine nib. I was wrong! Thanks for correcting. Can save an extra 5-10 dollars. (Not being sarcastic hahah. Sometimes hard to tell on here)

Top class video Shak. Very useful hands-on analysis and it has finally confirmed which pen would best suit my needs and be more suitable than the Zebra G which seems to vary from nib to nib. I find some impossible to get going, some a bit hit and miss, but my current one is absolutely superb although I know it has a very limited lifespan.

Very nice video. Have you used the Noodler's Triple Tail nib? It's very different from any of the other Noodler's nibs. Very wet, very soft, capable of extremely wide lines and mine never railroads. Not as fine a line to begin with though.

Let's go! Great post as always Shak. Super informative. Honorable mention: Pilot FA10 as can get 742 or 912 for $130-$150. If you have learned to write with less pressure (and is a good tool to practice this with, which will benefit all fountain pen use) then you can even use as daily writer. I do. If you have more pressure then the 743 FA15 is prob better for daily writer but won't flex as much or as easily & more expensive ($200-$250). Can't wait to see your post on higher end, vintage flex pens. Rumors are you have a "special" pen🤷🏻♂️😂 Thanks for the great content as always.

how does the required pressure for line variation compare between the Regalia Cross Flex and FPR Steel Flex?
@Shak-MD3 ай бұрын
@SoupDumplings8 Regalia is more stiff, and thicker layer of metal. FPR seems flimsy in comparison. FPR steel can get about half of the line width compared to Regalia. That is not speaking low of FPR, but very highly of Regalia. Totally different league. Hope that helps.

@davyj52164 ай бұрын
@@Shak-MD Mine are on dip pens, but I have tested this by wetting a nib and keeping it wet, to see how long it would last before corroding. I wonder if the type of ink may impact on this - that some are not really neutral in acidity? I should add that even with a dip pen I do not always clean and dry between uses.
@Shak-MD4 ай бұрын

@@Shak-MD Thanks, I will go and check that out! Update: have checked, interesting read. Honestly, I think it's probably not worth putting a dip nib in a fountain pen. I've been down that road with various pen bodies, but the results were never wholly satisfactory. As for FPR nibs, well, would love to try one but their shipping cost more than the product. So, not really going to happen. They are not that serious about marketing to any country in Oceania it seems. Pity really.
