Best affordable lodge to stay at in North Carolina. 7 Minutes from Sugar Mountain Ski Resort!

My family ski trip to North Carolina was a complete success besides the weather. We stayed at Smoketree Lodge which was affordable and comfortable for our group of 5. The rest of the family was in the RV.
Before booking I read reviews to make sure it was decent. We were as always, on a budget so booking something cheaper sometimes comes with headaches. The only complaint I found was that if you arrive after 5 you were instructed to call security to let you in. Some people did not know this and were confused. Remember that if you book there! Overall the ratings were good so we booked. I must say we were pleasantly surprised. It is a little outdated but has all the amenities you could want including an indoor heated pool and hot tub. There are laundry areas and are free of charge. They have vending machines, and an ice machine. The lobby area. has complementary coffee, games, a pool table and a large space to get work done if needed. It was super clean as all the reviews said and the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a two bedroom. The couch was a pullout. The kitchen was stocked with dishes and everything needed for a week's stay. I will say this, if you are a lite sleeper you might want earplugs. The floors are creaky and we had a noisy hyper toddler running around above us at 7am all 3 nights we stayed. Other than that it's great.
The Banner Elk cafe isn't very far and has the best food. Dollar general is about 5 minutes away as well. Sugar Mountain ski resort is 7 minutes away and the whole reason we booked.
