Shout out to TPE 3D. I totally forgot to mention it(also it's iOS only so I don't often get a chance to use it). It's similar to PhotoPills but has amazing 3D map features. Very fiddly to use and the 3D maps need updating but the potential is huge!

Alan, Great video. I use most already but there were a couple I had not thought about. I am going to quite a remote part of Isle of Skye early in the year. I'm looking to do some milky way shots with the mountains. Would you recommend going with the moon phase up or a new moon. I suspect I will not get the landscape illuminated with a now moon. I suspect it is a trade off.

For weather, you can use also Windy app it's great it shows you how clouds are moving, which is very much important for me here in Quebec

I used windy a while ago and found it very unreliable but now a lot of people are talking about it and recommending it so I shall try it again and maybe it's improved now. Thanks dude!
@Zenderful6 жыл бұрын
I think it depends on the area also. Like here in Quebec, the weather is a bit like in Nordic countries, you can't have a good forecast for more than 1 day, so I use a combination of Windy, Clear Outside and clear dark sky (A database that data from about 5300 observatories and observing sites in North America) Cheers mate, thanks for that video, very useful

@AlynWallace6 жыл бұрын
Thanks! To be honest, I think it's simply a case of marketting. PhotoPills is far better at marketting their app, but I've seen Planit before and it also looks awesome (and I think it has features that PhotoPills doesn't?)

Hey Alyn, just wondered if you could tell me a few words about the CooWoo lens heater you linked. I do not really trust the reviews, so a first hand explanation to the quality would be highly appreciated. (I didn't find a video so far where you used it :)) Best, Tom
@AlynWallace6 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom. It helps stop your lens from fogging up, you wrap it around the lens and plug it into a portable USB charger. Best used during long summer nights where the humidity is high and the dew point temperature is above the ambient temperature. Especially crucial if doing a long timelapse (eg. Perseids meteor shower in August!) where there's nothing worse than hours of photos being ruined by lens fog. It's also useful in cold conditions to stop the lens frosting but this isn't it's strongest point.
