I wanted to tell you how much this video has meant to us. My husband learned how to make these so well! He shows them off to guest who come to visit all the time and they love them! My brother in law has cancer and on his last days. We went to see him for the last time and talked about these potatoes and he wanted to taste them so bad, we made them for him. He could hardly eat them but he tried his best and he loved them! He had not eaten anything for days but he ate that potato. It was a good memory for all of us. We told him about your video and how we learned to make them and I promised I would make a comment and tell the story. Thanks for the memories from our dear brother in law and his brother.

Kent, As a form United States Marine, (1967-1973), I just wanted to thank you for remember Vets and Active Duty Members of the Armed Forces. We aren't often remembered anymore. It means a lot. As for the potatoes, holy smokes man. Best Taters I've ever had. Right after I take mine out of the oven and cut the X and open them up, I add a hunk of butter and then a couple of scoops of some pre-mixed sour cream with shredded cheddar cheese, scallions, bacon pieces/bits and chopped cilantro if I'm feeling crazy, all mixed together as a spread and boy I'm in hog heaven. Thanks so much for sharing your recipe(s). Everything you show us how to make is Deelish. God Bless and keep the recipes coming ! SemperFiGuy, West Central Florida.

Definitely need to try this recipe. I do my baked spuds with a similar method, but put them direct onto the the oven rack at the very top position. Backing sheet one rack down to catch the drips. I rub them with olive oil before cooking and do them for an hour at 325. They do come out with a leathery skin but I sort of like that. I'll try you method next time I bake taters.

Hey them Idaho potatoes, where we also have cattle that never see a feed lot or eat a grain of corn. Yummy and nutritious. Anyway I must confess to when I want a baked potato in a hurry I do at 10 minutes in the microwave and then about 15 minutes in the oven. I would never do that to company it's just for me. But you inspired me I'm going to do it right tomorrow. I never thought about sticking a thermometer in them, great idea. Thank you.

... I was cooking bake potatoes wrong for decades !!!! I was using olive oil ... bacon "Drippins'" are so much better. and Bacon Drippins' are basically free ... I love fried bacon & eggs in the mornin' ... so this gives me a use for something I was throwing away !!! I strain the drippins through paper towels and use a large dill pickle jar to save them in ... good for hash browns too ...

Just made some. Put the cut off portion in to cook, too. Took them out at the start of the last ten minute cycle. Good and crisp. Should have cut down farther into mine, but still, pretty good eating!
