I keep a PX4 as a bedside gun for all of these reasons. I converted mine to decocker only and have instructed my wife that all she has to do is point at the bad guy and pull the trigger. No safety to fool with, no need to rack a round, but that double action pull is there to protect against ND. I have the Langdon trigger in it, so the DA pull is nice and smooth.

In 2009 I owned a NIB C version PX4 9mm, 9x19mm. I liked it but the -s were lack of holsters, gear, accessories for Beretta PX4 models. I'd advise a new Glock 19 gen 5 or a 17. 9mm. Entry level(not formal trained in firearms or new). I have 2 .40S&W pistols. The caliber is fine but a 9mm +P is what I'd advise. By the way I pack Winchester 155gr Silvertip .40 in my Glock 22, M&P.

I had the opportunity to shoot a PX4 Compact and Full size pistol . They are very accurate pistols and I loved shooting them. It did take me a bit to figure out the POA vs POI on the pistols. The pistols belong to someone at the range and I inquired about them. Interesting enough, I let the owner shoot my CZ P10C and he shredded the bullseye. We both laughed when I told him that we should switch pistols. They are both outstanding pistols and would be an excellent firearm for new or well experienced firearm owners.

Bought one of these as my first modern carry gun for all these reasons. I love mine. I will say though that carrying it every day in humid weather caused every single pin and spring to in it to rust. Being my first carry gun, I figured the oxide finish on the small parts would protect them better. Now I'm sure to wipe it down early and often. At one point the spring for the mag release rusted so badly I couldn't get the mag release to budge with my thumb.

Call me old school but it still holds up: a good 3", 3½"or 4" .38 Special or .357 Magnum revolver with an exposed hammer. Some wardrobe choices and a good holster can conceal it, and one has decent to very good power provide the right load. Speedloader, Speed Strip, Moon Clip use can be taught and trained. Fast, loose round reloading can also be taught and trained Don't need much hand strength to load or use. If you can't pull the trigger right off, Single-Action can be used and can be taught to use quickly.

Speaking for one of the small handed minority of men, I like the Baretta but can't reach the double action trigger very well. The only double stack I have been able to reach is my CZ 75 Compact clone (Canik Tristar C-100) that has a manual safety for 3 hammer positions. I can reach it fine on half cock, and still have a decent amount of trigger travel for first shot. Just have to learn how to drop the hammer safely. I am no beginner, so it did not bother me. But I would not advise a beginner to do it without a lot of practice. I usually advise a revolver for beginners.

randy . I agree on a step up in revolvers than 38 special. in my knowledge and experience in weapons, ammunition, reloading, testing weapons. my first recommendation is any well made compact 357 magnum. 2 inch barrel, fixed sights. user friendly, plenty of powder, easy to master. by chance if it snapped on a shell keep going around. here’s the truth a standerd 357 mag out of 2 inch barrel will be up to 2 1/2 times more powerful than 38 special out of same gun . even a 9 mm with a 4 inch barrel the 357 mag is at least 150-200 more pounds of energy or more with 2 inch barrel than 9 mm with 4 inch barrel. that’s the best out of a stubby revolver. recoil sensitive faimly? target shoot 38 special. occasionally 357 . but keep loaded with 357 mag for self defense. tonight I saw a police officer with his camera on shoot a knife yealding man 3 times with his semi automatic and caliber unknown. it looked like upper chest. he was severely wounded but talking, hollering and trying to set up . if it had been 357 with 566 pounds energy with 2 inch barrel the results would be totally different out come . he would probably have bled out before the EMT arrived. . the numbers speaks for them selfs. a recent FBI report on 1 shots clearly put the 357 mag and 45 acp at above 82 percent rate of 1 shot stops. all outher self defense calibers no where near that . it’s been a long commitment but I believe worth reading. Beginning handgun? What is a beginning handgun? A .380? A 9mm? They all need the same care and appreciation. Not too big, heavy and not too small :)

Da/sa with safety and decocker? Have to disagree for beginners, still a great gun with nothing wrong with it whatsoever

A Px4 is a big ass wide gun. Printing and IWB carry is going to be problem in and of itself. IMO

Better choice would be the H&K P30 range of handguns, come in every model from long barrel to subcompact configuration. Also hammer fired, better ambidextrous features, more ergonomic, better build quality and multiple carry configurations from DA/SA, which can be challenging to master, to LEM, which is as close to a striker trigger as you can get on a hammer fired.

@@Sam1628 The LEM? Not a PPQ, but not intended to be, especially for a carry gun.

@@Sam1628 IC, coming from a revolver world its perfect, from a 1911 or striker viewpoint definitely. However it's task and purpose, primarily for those like myself who have inherent safety considerations with striker carry. However your point is valid.

It's not so much the gun. Whatever you get, seek training and practice, practice, practice! Beretta is nice but I prefer the M9. That's what I learned on in the Army. Soldiers come in all shapes and sizes and the M9 fit till they switched to the sig.

I have nickle jacketed rounds that look like silver bullets. I miss zombie max ammo. They had zombie survival tips on the box! When are they coming out with vampire slayer ammo? Holy water dipped hollow points. 😆 🤣 😂

Ruger P-85 mk2, it's 32 oz so recoil control is very good, it has no rail so it forces people to to strengthen their main hand because they have to hold a flashlight in their off hand, there is no cut out so they have to use fixed sights and learn to aim at 25 yards the old fashioned way, and it has no polymer so they won't be pussies. The Ruger P-85 mk2 really is a good first handgun, I still own the one I bought in 1987 and it still works flawlessly, it's not as refined as my CZ-75B but it is a great gun... and it's not poly.

What’s the ammo company he’s talking about. I am interested in getting a silver bullet.
