There are many reasons why it's not a benefit to have every single conversation available to the public. It would really damage politicians to ability to have frank and complex discussions. What offends _me_ are actions which result in harm being caused to the general populace, who are only doing their best to live their lives and protect and care for their loved-ones. The lack of realism in the UK shortly before the pandemic hit was bizarre. I live in Spain, one of the two countries that got hit first in Europe and I can remember telling people in the UK that they were only a couple of weeks behind us, and that considering nobody was taking any precautions, it would be bad. The sense of exceptionalism, that things would be fine because "we're British" seemed extremely common, and a total disconnection that there really was an impending crisis was deeply frustrating. Then it hit, and things were absolutely awful in the UK. The Spanish government's initial response wasn't great but they got their act together reasonably quickly. The British government just seemed incapable of learning, then took credit for what the NHS was doing, basically without their help.
