There’s actually something about the last encounter that’s funny-if you watch Impulse’s VOD, he heard the screaming, but he had no idea about the Bracken, so when he went near that fire exit, trying to reach the power apparatus and avoid a spore lizard, he got right in the Bracken’s range and got ambushed instantly (It wasn’t the first time the Bracken got the better of him, either, as back when Impulse did it with Grian and Gem, a Bracken got him because he couldn’t hear Skizz warning Grian via walkie-talkie about that sneaker)

If you glance at, it goes back to hiding around corners and stalking you. So Ren just probably didn't see it at all and it chose him to be his victim because if it.
