There are some criterias your bf should fullfill. Ask him to check it with the foreign authority office in his city. If he qualifies for it. He would likely get a letter from the same office and you can submit it while applying for visa. This will be enough. As far as I remember his income will be checked so that he can pay for your stay there in Germany. How many years he has been there in Germany.
