I didn't realize how tinny and awful the sound output on the original Echo was until we replaced it with the Studio. It was a sonic upgrade far beyond what I was expecting. Just wow. I love it because it's like having speakers IN the shower. My friend likes it because the music is so loud that she can no longer hear me singing. So that's a win-win.

Based on the recordings (which did not seem level matched (at least for white noise)) I like the Marshall the best. Mids and high more balanced and free of the box sound. The Sonos was boxy, the jbl terrible and UE hot in the treble.

@@Climate.Realist I just purchase one today and it blows the Sonos away. If you pick up the Sonos it feels so light and empty. The sound was garbage compared to the Emberton which is not just weather resistant. It's waterproof and has been tested so not sure what these guys are talking about. I am very particular and if you want a clean true sound the Emberton is the best sounding. Oh and the Emberton by the way can be cranked up ALL the way and it doesn't lose it's base and quality. In fact from 70% up it sounds better!.... It's not all about how loud a speaker is. It's more about the sound quality and the Sonos does NOT do what they say. The others don't even come close to the Emberton. These guys have no idea what they are talking about. I'm totally one of those guys that completely disagree with these guys. For a home system I'm go with Bose over the Sonos anyway..... Bose BLOWS away the Sonos. I guess it comes down to person choice. I'm one for natural sound I buy speakers for sound quality. If I travel the speakers would be inside my pack until I reach a destination and then pull it out and listen to it at moderate level. Why the hell would you blast your speaker so loud when hiking. Can’t deny the sound quality of the Roam, but I’ve had JBL Flips since the 3 and they’ve always been top notch for me. The volume, bass, durability and ability to fill an area with sound can’t be beat. Tried the UE before I got my Flip 4 and the sound fell a bit flat for me.
@mattheturk81583 жыл бұрын
Bro how come? Flip is the one working with a single driver. It sounds flat the most among these speakers. Boom is more muffled maybe compared to flip. If you’re looking for a soundstage on a speaker the right choice is Marshall there. I recommend you to try. I have a charge 3 also and I stopped using it completely after getting the emberton
@mahalie233 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. It’s bottom for me in looks but top in filling open spaces. @@manojpoudel3661 I generally listen at 50-80 percent range. I listen to it in my bachelor that’s why I don’t need my Bluetooth speaker to be really loud. It gets upto 87dB loud but I really don’t listen to music at that level. What I can say tho Marshall do not distort even at 100 percent at all. You lose from bass department when it’s at 100 percent volume but the clarity soundstage etc is still there. Mids and highs are shining. I have to admit I’m a rock music lover. Marshall’s sound signature really gives the edge on rock genre much more than party music. If you’re more into party music and you like to use your BT speaker outside mostly I’d say get a JBL. I've watched 20+ video reviews over the past two days on various smaller Bluetooth speakers, and your comments about the Marshall Emberton have helped to seal the deal for me. I've owned a JBL Flip and have nothing but good things to say about it, except for the fact that it does cater to the electronic music crowd just a bit - still, it's an absolute no-brainer choice for all genres of music; however, I don't crank the volume so much, so, the latest Sonos Roam and/or the new Marshall Emberton II are quite possibly my best bets based on style, but more importantly, full spectrum sound quality at lower levels. I’d like to take a moment to appreciate the sheer quality of this video! 👌 Guys, these reviews go from strength to strength and the endless quality and professionalism of your videos is outstanding! (You may recall I once made a comment regarding a previous sound quality issue previously in one of your KZbin videos when you first started filming from the studio/shop, which turned out merely that you had ended up having to rely on an older boom mic, when you didn’t have any other option… A perfectly valid reason) Well needless to say, that turned out to be a one off and now everything is truly ‘on point’. Sound quality is massively impressive!! I honestly didn’t think the ‘sound tests’ on these products would translate too well, but it was perfectly decent and gave a fair understanding how similar the sound was between the speakers, yet the minor details in warmth and clarity were also distinguishable too! The editing of this video was absolutely first class also, with plenty of little editing touches to add a little ‘magic’ and make the video memorable. I love the progression you guys are making in your reviews too. The idea of Lui loosing a Roam for 3hrs in a lake and someone suggesting a clear container to demonstrate the water resistance on camera as a better idea, just makes me laugh in my head as I watch this video. The humour levels were brilliant, the banter between you both, the fact you kept the intro/outro ‘blooper’ in etc… Honestly, as far as product videos go, I think your team has moved into a league of its own! It’s relaxed enough to be inviting and be a more personalised viewing experience (Rather than what you’d see from a big named retailer like Curry’s for example) But is also high quality too, making it clear you are easily identifiable as ‘experts in your field’. (No I wasn’t paid to write this and no I don’t know the lads personally either) Reminding me that the ‘Troll Free Zone’ comment was brilliant and I like the idea that your fan base is becoming a community of watchers who share your audio passion too and comment appropriately with the focus being on the products and the quality of your productions. Constructive criticisms; * Consider using a Gimbal like a ‘Smove’ or something similar for the Close-ups of products sat on desks or being used in someone’s hand. In my opinion that minor detail, and not having ‘camera operator shake’ while capturing content makes a HUGE difference to the overall feel of the quality level you’ve retained from start to finish in the video. * Secondly, maybe consider re-capping the prices towards the end of the video also when you detailed your ‘Speaker Showdown Results’, as maybe I missed it, but apart from the Roam (which Jonathan said in person) I found myself pausing the video and going back to the start to re-look at the prices mentioned at the beginning of the video. I originally glazed over the prices at the start if I’m honest, as often a price is not really a comparable attribute until you have looked at the products quality and compared their features etc. The only thing the prices did at the start was potentially indentify to viewer to continue if they felt they could justify or afford those products, or swerve this entire video if they felt the products were too pricey potentially. 🤷♂️ Apart from that… KZbin perfection in my opinion! 👌 Well done Guys!

It draws a lot more attention from friends. The sound is a little more crisp (although the Boom packs great base).

I bought a Roam in early 2021 and was quite impressed for a few weeks except I thought it could have had a few more visual indicators for battery life and connections status etc. It sounded good while using it in my house and garden on Wi-Fi. HOWEVER, I took it on holiday to CenterParcs and couldn’t connect it to their public WiFi so I used Bluetooth and it was horrendous! It sounded like something you get free with petrol tokens, there was so much distortion which I tried everything to fix to no avail. Took it straight back to the shop for a refund on my return home. Really spoilt my first Sonos purchase experience.

Hi Jon, that doesn’t sound good and not a great experience but I can ensure you it must have been a fault with your unit as we have no heard of this issues with all the Roams we have sold. Design wise, I think the JBL is the best, followed by the UE. The Marshall is third but definitely still beautiful - just a different aesthetic than the other two. The Sonos is fine, but the full plastic body seems like it wouldn't hold up as well as the fabric wraps that the JBL and UE have or the metal the Marshall has, especially if you're taking it out and about. Sound wise, the Marshall is best overall with good instrument separation, but the JBL is a close second with its better bass. The UE is third and the Sonos is the worst, especially given it is the most expensive. Features, for me, would have JBL in the lead due to how good Partyboost is, UE in second, Marshall in third, and Sonos in last (needing wi-fi to pair multiple speakers together is a huge letdown). I just wouldn't use the "smart" functions the Sonos has to make up for not natively pairing speakers together. Portability has JBL and UE tied, with neither the Marshall nor the Sonos really seeming like they should be taken out on a walk or hike but rather just meant for indoor use. Agreed with y'alls ranking for the battery life on the four of them. 1. JBL 2. UE and Marshall 4. Sonos

Great Video. My Bose Soundlink Mini has died and wanted something similar in price range but louder and all of these seem to be a good fit.

Hi guys, please do not ignore such important features as supportability of the Bluetooth codecs(AAC,aptx,ldac) as it really impacts the sound quality.

The JBL Flip 5 doesn’t sit on its side flat because when you place it on a table, the slight angle aims the driver more towards ones head, say if the speaker were placed on a table.

I don’t have any of them, but I would probably go for the Sonos Roam as it has WiFi and could use it with my Play 1.

I was doing a bike trip and my jbl flip 4 started to be deffective and a few days later it was completely dead. I can only turn it on if it's on charge so the battery is probably dead. During the bike trip it was on the back of my baggae-carrier at direct exposure to the sun, outside temperature was not higher than 27°C. Quite disapointed that an "outdoor" speaker can't handle some sun. A friend with a cheaper bluetooth speaker didn't have any problem (and it was black so It should have heated even more than mine)

Great review. Just don't know of that many people actually have Sonos products in their homes for it to rate that high for its features.

I’ve been looking for some reviews and comparisons between all four. There is no best one, it all depends on preference and use cases. I personally enjoy the sound from the Marshall Emberton the most. But I still ended up getting the UE Boom 3 because it is much cheaper and because it is much more durable. I intend to use the speakers when I’m at the beach, and the UE Boom 3 being more durable and also being dust/sand proof is a big plus for me.

Thanks for this review, still trying to decide. I'm looking for something that's durable for travelling but with good all round sound. I know it's hard to really tell sound quality from a youtube video but my take on what all sound like this side of the fence... Marshall: Good all round flat sound Sonos: Nice clean but warm sound JBL: Very nice balance and clear reverb on the vocals, much nicer than the others UE: very muddy sounding, hard to hear vocals. Given the cost of the JBL, its a winner for me. I'd like to hear the sound for myself though before deciding.

Thank for this wonderful video! Great feedback, and I really appreciate having two reviewers with different perspectives sharing why they like one speaker over other. Jonathan, you mentioned you have a Sonos system at home; what Sonos pieces do you have? I am contemplating a new TV and new sound system to go along with it, and Sonos has to be a consideration. For the TV, can I use other Sonos speakers, say a combo/system of Sonos 5 and 1’s, in lieu of a soundbar? And use those speakers for both my TV and listening to non-TV audio?

Call me crazy but Emberton should be used next to a backdrop. I don't know about the other speakers but at least it really oomphs Emberton's sound.

I had a Sony speaker, then bought the UE and bought a JBL as well. The Sony sounds ok, but it has horrible Bluetooth, and it depends on what you have connected if it will cut out. Overalls the vol is nice, a crisp and decent bass on it, but at 60 percent battery, you lose max vol. The UE blutooth seems great, no cut out, and the speaker is great, nice bass at lower volumes. The upper it lacks if you play high bass music because it's not as clear, but terrible. If you like country and rock, I'd say you would be more than happy with it. The JBL blutooth is good and has never experienced a problem. You can't tell much difference in low volume for the others, but the higher with it, you can hear it, and it's clearer on high bass songs. Overall, having those three and could only buy one id by the UE boom 3, it's not too much bass and crisp sounds and perfect on mostly any song's.

Have a Flip 5 and Marshall Emberton, different sound signature, Marshall more for serious listening due to stereo ability, tuning more rock'n'roll

a friend brought the UE Boom 3 over to my place and for sure it has great bass and plays LOUD for its size. It had a tinny quality to the highs though and after an hour or so listening to it, I had to turn it off -it literally caused me fatigue in my ears. After watching this, I wonder if he just messed around with the EQ and set it to cranked up bass and treble, leaving the mids too low and maybe it was user error. Local shops don't have these available for listening, so was hoping to figure out the best path forward using reviews. Our Bose SoundLink gen 1 speaker just crapped out and I wish I could just get the exact same thing over again! Great sound, good enough battery and reliable connection. I've now returned two of the current generation Bose speakers because they both had flaky bluetooth connections. Looking to move on......

assuming the sound test was 100% done in the same conditions, every speaker sounded kinda like it had a low pass filter, the JBL flip 5 however seemed to be the only one with that clearer sound. Thank you for this review, now i know what to buy for Christmas :)

I use my speaker when I go mountain biking. Their are plenty of basic Bluetooth speakers out there for $40. Keep in mind that you can lose a $200 speaker as easily as you can a $40 dollar one.

Marshall 6 in quality sound? on trial you didn’t mentioned which volumes you play all those four speakers, personal experience I notice Roam lack of bass and more distorsion at maximum volume ....I think there is also a bit unclear meaning of clear sound .. maybe because Roam as a incredible twitter but overall its unbalanced ... Marshall its warm sound and gives more impression to hear a natural sound ... and its a personal choice what to buy because both give different experience ... but to judge quality of sound 6 vs 8 I totally disagree. jbl good for party and background music .. the last ... well just power but found a flat sound comparing to otehr 3 . appreaciate your feedback guys .. thanks
