Did my heart good when the first bike I saw, in prime viewing position, was the Yamaha Moto-Bike. So sweet! Dad broke the piggy bank and my brother and I both got very special Christmas surprises. They were $120 each in 1974 and a huge splurge for a Greyhound bus driver, but he rode Yamaha and wanted his kids to as well. What a blast!

You can’t beat OLD SKOOL BMX.May be I’m biased as I grew up with BMX in the early to mid 1980s,so I saw it become huge.Virtually everyone I knew had a BMX bike(the most popular bike was the PK RIPPER,so many people I know owned them, especially street riders) but GTs, DIAMOND BACKS, REDLINES, MONGOOSE SUPERGOOSES, RALEIGH BURNERS,were also popular.I love the fact that so many people in their 50s(like myself),60s and even 70s, are riding both 20 and 24 inch BMX bikes.BMX seemed to go through a slump in the late 80s and early 90s, but those that were still racing, freestylin and street riding kept it going when loads had abandoned it for mountain bikes. And now you have the likes of SE, MONGOOSE, RALEIGH, SKYWAY and HUTCH for example who have rereleased 80s BMX bikes.MONGOOSE rereleased the SUPERGOOSE and CALIFORNIA a couple of years back, and they sold out(some ending up on eBay and selling for STUPID prices).I’m waiting for MONGOOSE to rerelease the PRO CLASS in 24 inch as the PRO CLASS was a classic in both 20 and 24 inch and I’ll be buying a 24 inch PRO CLASS.😉

@@derekharrison1582I’ve also noticed over the years the geometry of bmx has changed ever since they moved on from threaded forks where it was easier to raise and lower the stem. Mid school bikes were super heavy and small with the bolt on style stems. They should re release a batch like old school with mag wheels

Totally rad, dude. I agree with the "leave it original" philosophy...clean it up, service it, make it functional and call it a day. Restored bikes are cool too and they're definitely nice to look at but there is just something magical about an old BMX bike in its original condition and the story that it tells.

Sadly, it sat in my parents' garage for years, and they just gave it away to some kid. Hope the kid loved it as much as I did. But I still wish I still had my first true Real BMX bike. Have so many stories about riding it. And the story all started after i got hooked because of watching Rad the movie at a friend's house. That movie was our holy grail into bmx

Wicked set up, I started with a home made BMX back in 82, before my mum bought me a new Morrison Super X ( New Zealand made ) in 83. Started racing it did pretty well but bike was very heavy so then got a second hand Redline 500a before getting my pride and joy a new Hutch Pro Racer in 84 costing NZ $1100,which I raced until I stopped in 88,I swapped out the 1pce cranks for 3pc profile costing NZ $500 with bear trap pedals. Other bikes I had along the way were a Craig Campbell signature freestyle bike, Mongoose Supergoose and a Pantha 24inch ( NZ made ). Old school 20 inch 80s BMX here in NZ go for good money as they become rarer.
