Good to see you back in full swing. And agree. I have read a number of his books. And this one was phenomenal. I couldn’t put it down.

May i ask you, Did you find yourself aligned politically with the message of the book (i dont know much about it at all), or do you believe you enjoyed it, and would have enjoyed it all the same, had the politics not be in concordance with your own? Was the plot good, the prose or was it the political message you found the best aspect? Thank you! 😎

It's pretty difficult to be a moderate these days, people don't see it as "understanding both perspectives" or "using critical thinking to form your own custom opinions." Glad to see you continue your recovery and get your energy back! No more dobhoff too!

We have no room for moderates these days. Being a moderate is just being to the right.

Hi Brian, looking good! I’m reading Natchez Burning and loving it. He is a great writer. When Southern Man becomes paperback I’m going to get it. I prefer his giant books in the paperback format. 🤗

Glad you keep getting better! Interesting review. I loved Iles' first book, Spandau Phoenix, then did not pick up another book of his for a long time. When I finally did, I could not get passed the unsubtle and unkind stabs at anyone who disagrees with the author's politics and/or religion. Iles' bandmate, Mr. King, is in this same category for me. Both great writers, but neither one seems to want me to read his books. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on so many different kinds of books!

He was too harsh on that one for the 1997 internet stuff being outdated. That was a really fuckin good book. Lmao

If you think of the Natchez trilogy (natchez burning/bone tree/mississippi blood) as one book that takes 70 hours to read, Southern Man is only half as long, lol. Maybe I'll check out one of his 10 hour-ish books: the footprints of god, sleep no more, death factory (novella), third degree, 24 hours, or dead sleep.
@ChrisHutchings2220 күн бұрын
Brian, I started the Penn Cage books at your urging. I just started The Bone Tree yesterday. Such great books. I'll check this out and thanks for the recommendation.

I thought Bone Tree was #2 in the Natchez trilogy.
@ChrisHutchings2217 күн бұрын
@@epiphoney it is. I guess that's confusing. I started the series at his urging. I'm up to The Bone Tree now

I agree with some of the commenters that a lot of the political shit in this one was overbearing at times, but the last 200 pages were really great. After this, that concluded Greg Iles' entire bibliography for me, and every one of them landed in the S-tier for me. Iles is a PHENOMENAL writer. One of the GOATs

I’m sad about the politics because I probably would have read it. Authors need to realize lots of us are just OVER the biased narrative.
@chrisw616421 күн бұрын
I tried Greg Iles once but it was about 20 years ago. I have no idea where a Ludlum comparison comes from, I thought Iles writing was way too slow to justify that.

Where's your Neil Young shirt? Or the response to Southern Man, Lynyrd Skynyrd with Sweet Home Alabama. Watergate does not bother them. Now I have Southern Man stuck in my head. Wow, I never realized what the lyrics were.

Nope. The politics are such a turn off and I'm sick of it all. I certainly don't want my books polluted with political nonsense when they're literally everywhere else.

@mshat1819 күн бұрын
He brings up Carr and Thor(who isn't right wing btw) but those two never made fun of Biden or Obama supporters like this author does of Trump supporters. There's a real hatred there.
@nikkivenable7319 күн бұрын
@@mshat18 right? This is exactly right! It’s fine to subtly write your political opinions but when you become so hateful, well, that’s it for me. It removes me fully from the story. F that shiz.
