Giovanni's Room is absolutely wonderful and I'm so happy I read it after seeing you review it. I must read Oscar Wao later this year, that just sounds fantastic! This whole list is fantastic, as is that tie.

It's great that you are choosing from titles that are not necessarily the most up to date, as that is the way my reading goes. Often, my favourite read of the year can be decades old. I'm currently reading Giovanni's Room...wonderful writing.

I feel the same way about Oscar Wao - fantastic book!!! I will devour anything that Junot Diaz publishes.

What a great year of reading. Loads of diversity! Disgrace has been on my radar for a while now as has Oscar Wao. A perfect novel, hey! High praise. You speak about books in a really thoughful, passionate way and it's a joy to watch. Lucy

I adore Oscar Wao. It really is a perfect novel. If you want to read another great novel about the Dominican Republic and Trujillo, I highly recommend The Feast of the Goat by Mario Vargas Llosa. I had to keep tabbing out to go to Goodreads to add books to my tbr. I've read The Life and Times of Michael K and Waiting for the Barbarians by Coetzee, but I have not yet read Despair. Giovanni's Room is so, so beautiful. Great top 10!

Yay for Fates and Furies and Oscar Wao! Im almost done with the Unseen World; I picked it up on your recommendation and not regretting it. I am engrossed in this story! Great selection as always 👌

Wow, the only one I've read amongst those is "Disgrace" and you made me want to read all the others. I created a wishlist on Amazon specially for this so I won't forget it. Cheers from Brazil ;)

Awesome list! You made me really want to reread Oscar Wao... such a fantastic book and quite a unique reading experience. Time has only made me fonder of that book! I'm hoping to read Disgrace and Fortune Smiles soon, so I was happy to see them both on your list :}

I fully approve of you getting suited up for this video. I can fully confirm that you shout abuse at me in both English and Spanish. I can fully confirm that Fortune Smiles is a masterpiece and you’re the god of all book recommendations. I loved this video! All the books (apart from Giovanni’s Room but let’s not fight) are ones I love or hope to love in the very near future. I hope you have an equally successful 2018 readingwise! Much love bro ❤️

Love that American Psycho cover. Definitely echo your love for Oscar Wao. I tried to get into Rebecca but it didn't really interest me, I might give My Cousin Rachel a shot. Definitely want to read Unseen World and Fate and Furies some time this year. Hope 2018 is an even better reading year for you

one of my favourite books of the year would be 'Sketch of a last day' by Will Varley... Would be interested what you think of it, if you ever read it...

I read Rebecca a number of years ago, but haven't read anything else by her. I may have to pick up My Cousin Rachel in 2018.

i'm right with you on the junot diaz...unfortunately for us he hasn't written many words and i'm not sure he means to write any more..but who needs to write anything more after "the brief, wonderous life of oscar wao"..

How elegant ^^ American Psycho is incredible! As you, I would prefer a cleaner, more direct ending but the rest of the book has certainly repaid for that little flaw. I only read like two short stories by Diaz so I do hope to read more of his stuff, especially that I somehow connect the two of you in my head ^^ "Read more Diaz. That's the one that Juan like REALLY loves." Fortune Smiles sounds like a compelling read - will investigate. It was great to get your bests, Juan. Hope you have a wonderful year of reading :)

I can’t believe I haven’t gotten to Disgrace, yet - what a disgrace! 😛 I liked but didn’t love Rebecca so must try My Cousin Rachel. I loved your throaty non-verbal expressions of admiration for du Maurier’s writing! 😍 I liked Giovanni’s Room when I read it back in the mid-80s but LOVED his Another Country and want to read so much more Baldwin. Big YES to Fortune Smiles! How wonderfully idiosyncratic a choice for #1! That means I absolutely will read the Hanff memoir.

Shawn The Book Maniac I think you’d really appreciate Disgrace! It’s full of quotes that are simply jaw-dropping. Apple of My eye is just such a perfect fit for me! It’s like when I saw La La Land and thought “I need to marry this movie and make a baby” 😱
