I put Forest of Noise on my tbr as soon as I saw your review on instagram stories, but hearing you talk about it now made me bump it up on the tbr! I’m not really a poetry person, but it sounds fantastic

“the year of poetry” as though you’re not THE poetry reader/reviewer every year♥️ Just hearing you talk about Forest of Noise put a lump in my throat, and I’m glad that Antrobus, though super accessible for poetry beginners, still made your top books of the year list. As a forever Dorian Gray fan who got eye-rolled at when I talked to anyone who’d listen about it in high school, your eloquent appreciation of the thematic resonances in the story was so affirming and satisfying 😂 I just got myself a copy of Model Home to read with my partner and we’re both champing at the bit to get to it! Rivers Solomon can’t miss, I think. I think a lot of folks don’t understand that being abled is a temporary state of being, and that becoming disabled can happen to anyone. Hopefully Sing if You Can’t Dance will work to help folks with that barrier to empathy recognize that. Ok that ending twist? That makes so much sense. Because I was getting more and more suspicious the longer Sierra Simone didn’t feature in the rest of the video 😂 your excitement when you talk about her is my favorite thing and I’m so glad Simone has continued to make you so happy!! Hope 2025 brings even more fantastic books for you, Olivia!!

Aww, you're making me smile 🥹 I do really love poetry. I need to read Mosab Abu Toha's other poetry collection as I know he has one more. I can just imagine you in secondary school being a fangirl team of one person for everything Dorian Gray. I am very happy to join you on that bandwagon now! Ah, I hope Model Home works as well for you as it did for me 💫 YES to everything you said about how being able bodied is only a temporary state of being! Couldn't go without praising the queen of my reading year 😉

I’ve wanted to read A Tale of Two Cities for some time and must get to it this year. Me, My Dad… is such a wonderful book. The Picture of Dorian Grey was about so much more than I thought it would be and I agree so beautifully written. Model Home sounds great! What White People Can Do Next is going on my wish list. So are Sing if You Can’t Dance, Wolfsong and Harry August (love time travel) - they all sound wonderful. Love that you found a favourite author - I’m not really a fan of steamy romance but your enthusiasm for those books is joyful to watch! 😂

I added sing if you can't dance to my wishlist 😊 sounds like you've read some extremely powerful poetry last year. What white people can do next made it to my books of the year list in 2022/23. I thought it was an incredible book and Emma Dabiri wrote so powerfully, fearlessly and with such honesty and originality. I really couldn't praise it highly enough either - due a re-read!

I really want to read Fire Rush. I tried the audiobook last year but found it hard to concentrate on it. I think I’m going to have to do the immersive thing where I listen to it and read it at the same time. I did that with a couple books last year and it was amazing.

My TBR list is now significantly longer! I love your videos and watching your reading journey over the year as I also embark upon my own! The only comment I would have is that TJ Klune is also the author of the series which supports the taking away of Indigenous children by white families which happened (and is still happening) in countries like Canada and Australia. The series you loved sounds up my alley but I don’t really feel comfortable supporting the author because of that!
@OliviasCatastrophe

Honoured that I could grow your tbr list somewhat 🥹 and thank you for the lovely words about my channel! And yes, I do know about that regarding TJ Klune and less that it supports that notion and more so that that’s where he got some of the inspiration while researching! I did some extensive research on it read some Indigenous own voices reviewers before continuing to read on with his books, but I respect everyone’s choices and you should do what you feel comfortable with too ✨
