Hey guys. Looks like you still had the O ring on the QAD Exodus during the durability test. The instructions on the broadhead mentions that it is to be removed, and is only for shipping. The impact would cause the O ring to compress and allow play for the blades to come out if kept on. Remove to O ring and it would have been the winner on all tests. By far the best broadhead to date. Thanks for the video, gave me peace of mind that I am shooting the best one out there, and helps with ethical hunting.

The arrow was head straight for the sweet spot then all of a sudden took a hard right put a mark on the little bucks back leg about his knee! I was shocked. Killed a lot of nice deer and had a lot of very short blood trails with them. I also had a couple fall apart in my quiver over the years. Wish NAP would fix them. I'm sure there are a lot of good broadheads out there. That exodus looks impressive. I shot ramcat 100 grain heads the last 2 years and have been very impressed with them for the money. I switched to them after a mysterious lack of a blood trail following a just behind the shoulder clean pass through shot with a rage 3 blade head. I have lumenocks on my hunting arrows and climbed out of the stand with confidence that buck was down just out of sight. I had 3 specks of blood where I hit him and nothing more. I brought a woman with dogs in to help me track it and no luck. I know sometimes you think you hit better than you actually did, but 3 weeks later a friend shot the buck in rifle season. It had a very nasty looking entrance and exit wound just behind the shoulder on both sides. I was disgusted, disgusted not to recover the animal, and more disgusted that he had an agonizing last 3 weeks when he should have went humanely.

I know this an older video now, but I did not hear you mention something when commenting on the ballistics gel testing for penetration. As you noted, some of the mechanical heads appeared not to have fully deployed. Although this is possible and even likely, all of those arrows bounce back slightly when they stop. When they give up their forward momentum for rearward acceleration might be why you see some of the mechanicals come to rest not fully deployed.

Good test. I’d love to see how the Day 6, Iron Will, QAD, and Cutthroat perform on a deer. Just pointing out that the single bevels, like the Cutthroat, rotate through the tissue giving an S shaped cut, which increases the damage done. I’m shooting 200 grain cutthroats for deer and elk this year and they fly great! Today I shot four 3 shot groups at 30 yards and my biggest group was 2” and smallest was 0.5” Fantastic heads for the price, and significantly cheaper than the Day 6 and Iron Will.

You sir are a smart man who researches what they shoot. To many un education people these days shooting shitty mechanicals with a light arrow who are getting consistent run offs. I won’t shoot anything under a 650 grain arrow with a solid single bevel. Cuts through the deer like butter. Thanks for doing your research!
@montuckyman49822 жыл бұрын
@@tanner8100 at 650 grains you better dead nuts with the range of the shot or you'll miss high or low. Moderation is key. 4-500 grain, standard FOC is more than enough to kill anything in north American. Including the big bears. A 3 blade like the Exodus on 492 grain arrow at 292 is a bit excessive but shoots very nice. People are all sucking ranch fairy's Kool aid and forgetting he has killed ZERO elk. Only hogs n little Texas whitetails at known, close yardages at a feeder. There's a point of diminishing returns in all things.

Thanks for the impartial testing. One thing u said about fixed blades & trusting them with consistency is more about an arrow build & not the head. I'm not shooting 70 lbs., just 62. My bow shoots center-shot & that's what I strive for. However arrow flight with a proprietary single chunk of high grade tool steel on the front that u can sharpen again & again for years with no epic failures upon impact is monumental. Shooting a micro .166 inside diameter shaft that last couple of years has been an eye-opening experience with me in more ways than one. I would love to see 1 bow setup to shoot this in your next testing. The last thing I would like to say is about my environment. In the state I live in the gun is king & most of the rut if not all is during that period. I have made deadly shots in the past only to have the deer run 50 yards or more & leave my small zone. One was a buck that a gun hunter watched fall down on a very windy day. He then shot once about 20 seconds after the 🦌 crashed on video & claimed it. I simply had to adapt my setup to be as lethal as possible. My broadhead of choice is the Valkyrie short Jag. The last 2 deer I've taken with it I've only had to bloodtrail 20 yards, combined. No spine shots, I just waited until the deer was standing quartering toward me in my shooting lane. I don't release until the front leg on the exit side is forward. That way the exit is clean just behind the shoulder & lower than the impact side. The point of impact is simply where a good gun hunter aims. At the point of the shoulder where the neck starts. The bloodl-loss is so ridiculous that it shocks you. The arrow buried 10 inches in the ground is proof that great arrow flight continued after it exited. Reminds me of the way it was in the 90's when I started this journey. Thanks for the video & don't stop now & never compromise. We owed it to the quarry.

Mathew your looking at this simply from a speed stand point. While yes speed can be an important feature to be concerned with, if you pay attention to THP and the Ranch Fairy they take ethical shots most aren’t past 25 yards.... The high FOC arrow is going to penetrate better than a lighter arrow with speed no matter how you look at it. Yes at greater distances the slower high FOC arrow would be prone to missing its ideal target spot because of its speed but that’s a poor judgment call from the shooter not a “problem with the arrow set up”.

Razor sharp FIXED BLADE all day everyday.
@johningersoll39314 жыл бұрын
I use NAP Thunderhead fixed blades. I was using 100 grain, now switching to 125's for a bit better FOC percentage, and a little more overall arrow weight. I love these heads. They have an aluminum ferrule with a sharpened carbide tip fitted into the ferrule. The blades are super sharp and are easily replaceable. An 18 pack of blades run around $20, and you esentially have new broadheads. All deer I have shot with these have been pass throughs, and the broadhead was buried in mud, sticks, deflected off of rocky ground, etc., and the blades were still sharp enough to shoot again without question. I have never had the tips or ferrules roll over or bend after hitting ground debris after a shot either. They are a solid choice for fixed blade shooters. And, you get 5 in a package for like $40. Very well priced. The only other fixed blade that is really intriguing me, is the Wasp Havalon HV. They seem nasty. Havalon makes incredibly sharp blades, and the ones on this broadhead are likely no exception, and are .035" thick, so they should be pretty durable. It has an aluminum ferrule with a stainless steel Trocar style tip, and the peaks on the tips have been aligned with the blades for accuracy. They are a bit more pricey at $45 for 3, but you get 6 extra blades in the package. So as long as you don't mess up the ferrule, it is like getting 5 broadheads as far as the number of uses per pack. Of course, if you want to fill a 6 arrow quiver, you will have to shell out some change.

I picked up a package of the Exodus 3-4 years ago when I bought my bow, I finally took it out to hunt with it this year on my special draw tag for cow moose. First day, i shot a moose behind the shoulder and the broad head was resting on the far side just under the hide. Dropped in seconds. I guess I made the right choice randomly a few years ago 😂 worked like a charm!

I shot Reapers for years, switched to Rage. Had 2 blade deployment issues the following year with Rage. Back to Reapers and now I'm staying there!

Yea, shooting any mechanical through pressed together cardboard is gonna give you the worst look at what the broadhead can do. What a dumb test

My sevrs never make it to the other side of the rib cage in deer. Throwing the rest away
@Doman35004 жыл бұрын
@@HondaRidinRyan which ones do you have? How much poundage you shooting? How fast is your bow? I get pass thrus on big deer with the biggest grim reapers and in this video they have the WORST penetration.
@HondaRidinRyan4 жыл бұрын
Tyler S I guess I should specific they were the original sevrs. They have the 2.0 now I think. I guess they realized they sucked too. I’m shooting 67 pounds out of a vertix. Average arrow weight

@@HondaRidinRyan yea the 2.1 sevr had issues. But their 1.7 is phenomenal.

Never had an issue with the Dead Meat against deer. But then again, I don’t hunt 55 gallon steel drums either. It’s a bucket list hunt for me so when I do draw that tag, I now know not to take the Dead Meat with me... thanks for the critical info there.

Lee, love the new hairstyle - it is so you! Nice of you to drop off the boat this Fall - just in time we go ice fishing in Minnesota, it will take a little longer to chop a hole for the boat.

Flintnapper here... One broadhead I wish you would have tested is the little sonic broadhead. Id put my money and kill that that one would have been the best penatraiter and the most accurate. It's been a long time since I bought broadheads. In terms of what I use now, a small stone pierces much better than something big and chunkey. We are working on changing the 7/8 law. See Ryan gills channel hunt primitive for more..... Do it!!

First heard of y’all in GON, killing monsters in the Atl. I figured y’all were baiting lazy deer. I have apologized many times to my buddies and now am a subscriber. I share your passions and your faith. Live few miles east in Augusta. Have you ever tried a toxic broad head? I recently bought some per a buddy in Texas but haven’t used them. Great videos if you care to see. Thank y’all. Good luck this season.

get a compound and shoot it till you can shoot a group of three arrows inside of a paper cup consistently then go hunting, i've been hunting with a bow since i was 12 and there is nothing more rewarding, good luck and hopefully clean shots when you get to go.

My personal favorites are the Magnus, Zwickey and the Swacker. All fixed blades. All dependable and all have decent cutting diameter. Best of all is that you wash the blood off them, sharpen them and reuse them many times over. Not sold on expandable but everyone has their own opinion.

I shot the toxic a few years back and was not impressed in the least. Just my personal experience but they did not group well, the blades actually expanded quite a bit after just shooting them into a target, and after shooting the same head 2 times one the them just ripped out. but that was just my experience.
