Substituting and adding a few ingredients will help elevate these brownies to another level. Traditional boxed brownies mixes are 18.3 oz. and call for water, oil, and eggs, but we will be substituting the water for milk and the oil for melted butter. Even if you do not like coffee, the instant espresso powder used in this recipe will only help elevate the flavor of chocolate and not taste like coffee. I love making brownies in an 8x8 or 9x9 baking pan for a thicker brownie, but a 13x9 baking pan can be used as well. Feel free to add in walnuts and chocolate candies and top these brownies with chocolate frosting. Whether you're a baking beginner or a seasoned pro, these creative hacks will create fudgy, gooey, or cake-like textured brownies.
You will need an 18.3 oz. brownie mix. Follow the directions on the box of the brownie mix for temperature and cooking times since cooking times will vary depending on the size of the pan used.
Ingredients:
3 tbsp milk (substituted for water)
8 tbsp melted and slightly cooled unsalted butter (substituted for oil)
2 large room temperature eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp instant espresso powder
1/2 cup chocolate chips
