Yeah this fad of tents and awnings permanently attached to their vehicles is mostly for Instagram. Ground tents and tarps not only are cheaper, they are lighter, and they are more versatile. You can set them up away from the vehicle and still have use of the vehicle if need be. Asking for one of these for fathers day

You can use shower grip with suction cups cut in half and attach to windshield, side window or even metal surface with S-hook if no place to hook up or no roof rack. That’s what I use on my Honda insight.

I was on the road out of my SUV for a year traveling the Southwest. I used a tarp in the same configuration for rainy weather. I have been comparing different setups and I like how this attached to the roof rack. I think I just found my next rain protection for monsoon season here when I camp put. Thank you. Just to mention, I never considered a actual awning. Couldn't figure how that would hold up to inevitable winds and don't like the configuration for rain. Also, would like to know if the tarp is light or mid weight?
@sigma3survivalschool
@sigma3survivalschool 3 жыл бұрын
It’s a mid weight tarp. I also suggest getting an adjustable pole or two from Amazon to put other sides up or prop spots in the middle. They sell really tall extendable ones for cheap

just bought the version with the drop down mosquito netting, looking forward to using it. You didn't show how you protect the tarp from the sharp corners of your back window...what do you do?

what you may like is a guide line from that one pole. As soon as you put you that up with a guide line walk backwords and put down that guide line. then do the other guide lines and you can remove that guide line from the pole. and set it right. that guide line from the pole is essentially your second hands. Should make it a bit easier. For a two pole setup this would not work though. But good that you typically run with a one pole setup.

Also, I thought I would use a tarp in the same way, but changed my mind thinking tarp would scratch paint on truck roof. Slumberjack is not such a rigid material as a tarp.

I went from a rei 12x12 batwing to this and it is steller for an suv. With some adjustable poles makes it damn near unbeatable depending on your knot tying skill's. To hell with the platic junk on the guy line's "taut knot's" hold this really well.

Why cut at 4:06? You should have shown how its done single handed there was zero wind! you obviously had the camera person hold the centre pole while you guyed out the corners putting tension on the centre pole before continuing to film so that's a total "fail" in my opinion.

I really like this tarp, and own one. I did purchase adjustable tent poles to use, and which that the company made theirs adjustable because they are MASSIVE and you don't always need or WANT the tarp that high. It is an AWESOME and well made tarp.

what if i don’t have a bed rack or anything, is there a way to prop up the tarp so the heigh isn’t super low? or would I have to wrap it over the cab and lose depth / space under the tarp?

Thanks. Could not determine if poles are adjustable. Also, would be great to see how difficult it is to make it a stand alone, like being at a camp and then decide to go to the store for a beer run.

Well catching water with a tarp is pretty self explanatory. But water carrier devices aren’t that well known. Google waterport and check out their products. You can carry 4-8 gallons depending on the model. And it’s pressurized for showers and dishes.
