Use a 2 inch nosepiece on your DSLR otherwise you'll probably get vignetting of the sensor

I own a 90mm Svbony and its been great, produces great images an reasonably decent for basic viewing as well, crisp and clear.

Even though it uses ED glass, svbony still labels it as an achromat on their website, and sadly it will still have some chromatic aberration on bright objects compared to a true apo doublet.

O ordered an Svbony 102/714 mm but I do not know which diagonal I should buy for it, a 1.25 or 2 inch one with 1.25 adapter. I only have 1.25 inch eyepieces but I also plan to later buy a 2 inch wide field one. Does it make sense to buy a 2 inch diagonal and eyepiece for a wide filed view for the 102 mm Svbony 503 for nebulas and galaxies or will a 32 or 40 mm 1.25 inch eyepiece be more than enough for that ?

Great review mate SVBony are making some great equipment lately & if you're on a budget, & who isn't in this day & age then it seems to be a good scope to use for imaging. I buy most of my gear second hand to help keep the costs down & I recently bought an Altair astro 102 EDR which is identical to the SVBony except it uses FPL53 glass for a bargain price & it has a finder shoe fitted which I don't know if that comes as standard or was fitted by a previous owner. I agree with your comment about the rack & pinion focuser much nicer to use & less prone to slip like a lot of crayfords out there that I've used, if I were to compare the quality of the focuser on your scope to one fitted on skywatcher ED evostars then definitely yours is miles better. If there is backlash then it's a tiny amount & you can set an autofocuser to compensate for that should you fit one. I have ordered the SVBony flattener to go with my scope & hope to give it a first light soon as that to is identical to the TS optics version that goes with the EDR so fingers crossed it should perform well.

Thanks for your comment mate! Yeah second hand gears saves a lot of money :) Svbony flattener should be fine. Let me how you go with it. You have to extra careful with distance between camera and flattener. That's the main thing with flatteners that seem to throw me off.

@@AstroOnbudget I'll keep you posted the flattener arrived today so I've fitted it in readiness for a first light (whenever that will be as the weathers been pretty bad in the UK lately) I'm pretty sure it will work as it's optimised for F7 102 scopes plus I'd made a saving of about a third of the price when compared to the TS optics version.

Hey Matheus, AZGTI payload is 5kg from memory. This scope is 4kg without accessories. DSLR would probably be 500g or so. So yeah you should be able to be just under payload limit.

So would you say this scope just straight up doesn't need a field flattener?? It's something I've been struggling with understanding. For so many refractors it seems like a must buy. What makes this one different?

It's usable without field flattener as you can see the photo in the video. If you are using crop sensor DSLR, you wouldn't need it. Although it's f7 without FF so quite slow. But with FF, it goes down to f5.6 which is reasonably fast.

You say there is no chromatic aberration but you don't show us the corners, also the glass coating on the lenses is claimed to be S-FPL 51, i have never heard of this, i know FPL 51 but have never seen or heard of specs about S-FPL 51, it almost sounds like the company is using the FPL 51 buzz word, but it isn't actually FPL 51.

I owned a F10 102/1000 mm achromat and not a have the F7 Svbony 102/714 mm FPL51 ED and it’s image quality is significantly better. Yes it has to be FPL51, since the image quality is clearly better than that of a F10 102/1000 mm achromat.

Why is it called achromatic if it is using ED glass? Should it not be called apo or semi apo doublet?

"Semi-Apo' is a marketing term, for fooling the foolhardy. The use of ED glass in a doublet does not equal an apochromat. I have the SV503/80mm and while it's an excellent well-corrected doublet it's not an true achromat. ED glass is well, just glass, having a low dispersion. It's not a magic bullet.

You don't speak about ridiculously too short back focus that does not permit to use accessories like OAG with filter wheel or simply a 2'' diagonal with 2'' eyepieces for visual observation. The 90mm scale is not really useful because you never use more than 5-10mm with a DSLR directly at prime focus. What do you think of that ?

Thanks Jean. It's true I don't speak about back focus in terms of OAG with filter wheel. The reason for this is that I don't own it yet so I am not sure about it. That said, SVbony has a group on Facebook and I've a few people use Filter wheels. Given that I primarily use DSLR, I am not really sure. In terms of visual observation, I have not had any problems with using eyepieces. They focus just fine. I hope this helps :) thanks for engaging.

@@AstroOnbudget thank you, could you please give the back focus you can see on the graduate scale when you are in focus at infinite position (stars/moon) with your DSLR please ? The one I own does not work with Herschel wedge and any eyepieces and does not reach focus when using a regular 2" diagonal with most of my eyepieces (Ethos, Delos, Morpheus, etc.) for visual observation. The OTA is too long to reach focus for visual and 2" diagonal.

Crayford focusers are far superior to rack and pinion, if it slips and slides it is either badly adjusted or faulty, I can hang enormous weights on mine, no slipping or sliding, advocating rack and pinion over Crayford is a disservice to your viewers.
