Wouldn't this be the perfect time to pack a monocular? The Vortex Solo 8x36 is great in low light but quite light and small, or even smaller the 8x25 is tiny. In this application, dual eye use seems less important to me than the weight and space savings
@Bestbinocularsreviews2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jelte - yes most certainly you are right - A monocular is as you say an ideal choice for this type of survival situation where things like size and just gaining information is more important than the deeper immersion you get from a binocular. Indeed If you have not already, take a look at my video and article on Monocular vs Binoculars where I do go over this in more detail: www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/blog/monocular-vs-binoculars-for-birding-hunting-hiking-sports-travel-12/

Thank you Jason for your helpful reviews. I believe that your channel is the best channel when it comes to binoculars. Recently, I bought both Steiner BluHorizons 10x26 binoculars and Vortex Vanquish 10x26 binoculars. I can say that the Vortex Vanquish is much better than Steiner BluHorizons because: 1) the ruggedness and practically of Vortex’s is much better. The double hinges design of Steiner’s is sometimes loose and even harder to align to your eyes. 2) eye relief of Vortex’s is longer. 3) Vortex’s is less expensive. The only advantage of Steiner’s is compactness and light weight. Personally, I prefer to use Vanquish over BluHorizons. Best regards
@Bestbinocularsreviews4 жыл бұрын
Hi, many thanks for your kind words, they are much appreciated. Also thanks for the feedback on these two binoculars. I agree with you in many ways - for the price, the Vortex Vanquish www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Vortex-Vanquish-10x26-Binoculars-Review-249.htm is seriously tough to beat and as I say compares very well against more expensive compacts like the Steiners. As you say they do have advantages over each other, I think the general build quality of the Steiner BluHorizons www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Steiner-BluHorizons-10x26-Binoculars-Review-244.htm is better than the Vanquish as it is made from metal and I have never had a problem with the hinges on the BluHorizons nor indeed any compact Steiner with the double hinge design, so maybe you should consider getting it checked? At this price range especially you will always need to make sacrifices somewhere, so it is all about deciding which features the best suit you and your needs and then finding the binocular that most closely matches that.

I think, ideal binocular for B.O.B. is Kowa 6x30 yf. It is small, have superb clarity in low light conditions, and fov 140m, only 470g weight. In most such situations, observation must be doing in poorly visible conditions. Therefore 10x26 or similar is out of the question.
@Bestbinocularsreviews4 жыл бұрын
Hi - I do like your thinking, and interestingly I have just finished using and testing the very similar Opticron Savanna WP 6x30 Binoculars www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Opticron-Savanna-WP-6x30-Binoculars-Review-266.htm - I took them on a kayak trip and I cant agree more with you - excellent value, great optical performance for the price, good in low light for the size and thus yes, certainly a good choice for a B.O.B.

Just bought Vortex Vanquish 10x26 and Opticron Savanna R PC 8x33! Thanks so much for your help, you are a true legend! I am first time prepper, is it true the opticron is more compact and can see further, therefore making it better in most survival cases? If so, vortex will be my back up!

Hi Elsa, glad I was helpful and many thanks for the kind words - very much appreciated. Both will be fairly compact, but yes, if memory serves me the roof prism of the Opticron Savanna 8x33 means it will have a narrower shape when folded, yet you get the larger 33mm lenses which will help in low light situations - let me know how it goes once you have had a chance to use them - I'd be interested.

Hi Peter, sorry for the late reply, your comment just slipped through the net. Anyway, yes a cheaper binocular is good for backup as you will hopefully never need to use it. @@Bestbinocularsreviews I ended up ordering a Bnise 10x50. Exactly the same as a rebranded USCamel except cheaper. Somehow Amazon sent me the $150 more expensive USCamel anyway so I guess I can't complain. It is a nice budget marine binocular with "auto focus", and in-built compass and reticle. (Works well in low light too.) I'm holding off on the ATN binox 4k for now, even though they seem like popular digital binoculars. I've also developed an interest in 20-60x100 spotting scopes that I could use for a variety of basic functions. (I currently like the Celestron Regal. I'm looking for something affordable yet with no chromatic aberration so I can use it as a telescope as well.)

What do you think of the Nikon monarch 7 8 × 30, I have owned it for a few years and I love its huge FOV 145m / 1000, but I wanted something better, the Hawke frontier ED X 8 × 32 could be the solution? Hello Cristian, you are welcome and I hope you are all well and safe in these crazy times. Hi Jason I am interested in purchasing a set of 10 x42 binoculars around the £200 pound mark the models I am interested in are the VANGUARD endeavour 10x42 the Bresser Condor 10x42 and the VANGUARD spirit 10x42 ed which would you recommend out of the three many thanks Chris.
@Bestbinocularsreviews4 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, Thanks for the question. The Vanguard Endeavor ED (www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Vanguard10x42EndeavorED-106.htm) is a step up from the Spirit ED (www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Vanguard8x42SpiritED-77.htm) and so if the price is similar between those two, then that would be my choice. As for the Bresser Condor, for the price it is really hard to beat (indeed it won the award for Best Mid-Level Binocular 2020 (www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/binocular-awards-2020.php#value) and the choice between the two is much harder to make. Yes the Endeavor ED has ED glass, but not having ED glass does not always mean you will get more color fringing and indeed in my review of the Bresser, I noted that " the level of visible color fringing in the image produced by these 10x42 Bresser Condor binoculars is minimal and certainly no more than what I would expect to see from a mid or even high level 10x binocular." Thus going from my review and memory as I don't still have the Vanguard with me I would say that both are about equal in this area. So really hard to choose as both are excellent example at this price point and sure you'll be happy with either.... Have you compared that stats of each (field of view, close focus, eye-relief) to see which one performs best in the areas that are most important to you? If still similar, sometimes it can just boil down to which you prefer the look of best or which one you can get the best deal on. Hope this helps and sorry not to have a definite answer for you - Please let me know if I can be of further assistance and I would love to know which one you finally choose to go with.

@@doriangray2347 Hi Dorian, yes I did see them sorry, just been busy - anyway the Frontier ED X is for the money a great pair of optics for sure. If you are worried about the Predator's tinting, firstly I would say that it is quite subtle, but if this still concerns you and you want a more accurate or true to life image, then perhaps go for the 7x30 Steiner Navigator Pro : www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/Steiner-Navigator-Pro-7x30-Binoculars-Review-268.htm - it is similar in size and whilst you get a slightly lower magnification, on the plus side you get a much wider field of view and improved low light performance

Yes for sure and it is something I thought about for this article and video. Unfortunately, there is not one single device that really does both daytime and nigh-time well together, so I thought I would make a separate article specifically on what NV is best for survival and Bug Out Bags - my initial thoughts would be a lightweight Digital NV monocular: www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/night-vision/best-night-vision-monocular-reviews.php - some on that page would be suitable - being small, lightweight and relatively inexpensive. P. S. I don't know where you are from but I am not from England or USA but I am in Europe so In my country we might not have some Binocular brands from your country but I would still like to hear your opinion. U just saw about your teen video and i am a teen But i would like to hear examples for older people as well Also I wear glasses or contact lenses so maybe that effects the image or something so should I take that into consideration when buying binoculars.
@Bestbinocularsreviews4 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for the question.Generally I recommend the 8x42 configuration as a good all-rounder irrespective of the make or brand. As a beginner, I would suggest starting by taking some time to go though my Binoculars 101 guides, especially the ones on what to look for: www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/guides/ - Then take a look at my page on Best Value For Money Binoculars that has a number of 8x42 binoculars in a wide variety of price ranges that I have tested and reviewed and which I recommend www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/binoculars-best-value.php - hopefully you will find a pair in your country. Because you wear glasses, not sure if you will need them whilst using your binoculars, but if you do, make sure the binoculars you get have at least 18mm of eye-relief to be safe: more on that here: How To Use Binoculars With Glasses: Eye-relief & Eye-cups Explained www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/blog/eye-relief-eyeglasses-binoculars-11/ - hope this all helps. @Bestbinocularsreviews4 жыл бұрын
@@chess74u No never take your binoculars apart - most good pairs will be fully sealed and filled with a dry gas (usually nitrogen) to prevent internal optics from fogging up - opening them will destroy the seals.
