Based off this video and a lot of solid reviews from others, I’m gonna go with the Motorola MB 7621. Some background info: I have spectrum’s basic 200 mb plan, their stock modem and router are trash, and I have the Netgear Nighthawk XR300 (that router works phenomenally for me). I’ll try to remember to post back here for new people on my experiences with the MB 7621, I should be getting it tomorrow for sure.

Update after 2 weeks of use: For a $75 modem, I believe this is a phenomenal modem for me and my family (and people who need a very reliable modem that can support a lot of devices). To put in perspective how good this modem is, my brothers and I all play multiplayer games online, I have 3 ring wifi cameras, around 6 smart phones total, 2 chromecasts and 4 computers. These are all the devices across my entire family, and although we don’t use all of them at once, there’s times where someone is watching Netflix/ KZbin on the chromecasts, and me and my brothers are playing online multiplayer games with no lag spikes at all. I kept it running for 2 weeks straight and only recently reset it since (to keep the connection healthy). This is a very reliable modem and I seriously recommend this for the sheer reliability (so far) I’ve had with this modem. Now the true test is the ‘test of time’ for this modem, I truly wonder how long it’ll last me until it’s performance starts to decline. Until then, I’m very satisfied with this modem and it’s performance. Thanks for the recommendation in the video 👍

The Arris 6183 was probably the best choice, in 2015. It's obsolete and has no future. In 2021, it's time to move on to DOCSIS 3.1 with the Arris SB8200, or its corporate cousin the Motorola MB8600.

I have a curiosity question for the owner of the channel What are the monthly costs of a 1Gbps or 1.2Gbps internet in USA? Im from Poland here its 22$ for 1200Mb/s(Vectra) i would get it but i have to first end up my old isp subscription 20$ for 1000Mb/s(UPC)

Please help me unscrew my head and ask a really stupid question. I currently have an old Samsun TV that allows me to watch the Apps on the internet it has on it, so I direct connect it to my ROUTER that is in turn connected to my ARRIS Surfboard 8200 MODEM that is in turn connected to my Year old AMD PC build with a Ryzen 7 3700 and a Gigbyte RX5700XT and 32GB 3200 Ram and I only get on Latest Speed Check and Internet speeds of DOWN LD 37.9 MBPS, UP LD 11.62 MBPS from my TV provider Speeds Test. I regurally watch videos on KZbin and it auto sets video at 720p and sometimes at an even lower setting or even cycling and stopping the video waiting for the data to transfer befor continuing video play. So its my internet? Do I need both a Modem and a Router? Do i need to update my Modem and stop using the router? I hope you can help.

My ISP plan provides up to 500 Mbps of speed. Would it be bad to get a modem that is advertised for internet speeds of 300 Mbps? Or do I need to get a modem that is for 500 Mbps+?
@Mr.StrongVII3 жыл бұрын
As far as I’m aware, you *can* get a modem that caps at data speeds less than your current ISP plan. To fully answer your question, yes it is somewhat bad to get a modem that has data speeds capped less than your 500 mb plan. You’ll be paying for a 500 mb internet service and only be receiving less than or equal whatever modem you choose to go with. I would contact your ISP provider to make sure your desired modem is compatible with the speeds and service first.

You could use a modem rated for less but your speed will not go any higher than the max speed of the modem. If you want to do that downgrade your internet package and stop paying for speed you would not be getting.

Really strange modems, whats up with only one ethernet port?. All of the modems look like stripped down from options. Here in nordic country cable modems have 4 gigabit ethernet ports with wifi 2.4 and 5G. And are Eurodocsis 3.1 with 1gigabit internet connections. I am really suprised about the modems you use, its like going back 15-18 years, even back then there was 4 ethernet ports.
@JJFlores1972 жыл бұрын
A true modem is just that: A modem. It has not routing or wifi capabilities. The modems you're talking about are a combo unit of a modem and a router and almost always a wifi access point in one box. We have plenty of those combo units in the US. As a matter of fact, practically all internet providers sell/rent/give a gateway device (or some other marketing name) that is a combo unit.
@NorthStar-pi2yx2 жыл бұрын
I know what modem is, been having internet since 1996, back from dial-ups. The thing is, that type of modems have been gone from this part of the planet for really long time, here that type is considered outdated. For that type of modems you need a seperate router, i mean its 2021 and not 2001. While visiting US, i noticed how behind households were, moustly still stuck with seperate modem-router setups. And the speed/month payment was ridiculous ripoff. Moustly we are paying here 19.90€ for gigabit connections, no connection opening payment or a ridiculous internet installer guy sent by operator to connect modem to the wall socked. Here, same thing with mobile phones, 19.90€ per month, limitles calls, messages and data.
@JJFlores1972 жыл бұрын
@@NorthStar-pi2yx I do agree that our broadband infrastructure is atrocious and a massive rip off. However, I can assure that the majority of people who have internet access nowadays have a combo unit. Most people don't have separate modems/routers.
@TurboSpeedWiFi2 жыл бұрын
@@NorthStar-pi2yx Having a separate router is actually preferable. The last thing I want is a modem router combo. Most of them do not perform either task as well as a stand alone modem and router. The US is not behind, they just prefer separating out the functions. A high quality modem connected to a high quality router will run circles around a combo unit. It is kind of like how you could use the speakers built in your TV but using external speakers will always sound better. Hope this makes sense.
