Yes you get better stabilization with the default camera app than on third party apps, it probably best to use a gimbal then :)

Which app has the best auto focus, and lets you control the shutter speed? When I use filmic pro, you either have control of the shutter, or the iso, or the focus- not all 3. I'm looking for something that I can lock in the shutter speed, and also have autofocus as well.

When I use the filmic Pro app, and I go into the adjustments for the iso and shutter, I can only choose one to have control over. I've been using ProCam 8 and I'll tell you why it is appealing. First Beast Cam is by far my least favourite, it seems to take the base sensor readout and do nothing to it, no picture profile, no log, no flat basically giving you a small sensor look, blacks are crushes, highlights blown out(some computational iPhone effects can been seen from time to time). Filmic pro takes the base sensor readout and at least it fakes Log for some recovery. And by fakes log I mean it takes neutral readout and flattens the contrast, lifts the shadows so that you think its Log, If its really a log algorithm I'd be surprised. Moment also fakes Log but it has its own color science that makes moment footage look less Iphone'ish (That's a win for moment). But back to ProCam8. ProCam8 takes the iPhone Sensor readout (After it has been processed with the iPhone Computational science goodness) and it give you "Finally" full control over your iPhone video with all the Dynamic range that the iPhone can provide. Basically the ProCam8 is the best dynamic range and full Manual(filmic pro and moment are unable to recover this much DR). that being said it is recorded in a Wide Dynamic Range baked in look that is less color gradeable in post. I'm not aware of any other camera app that captures as much of that computational goodness and gives you manual controls. That's my 2 cents. Basically I would use proCam 8 when I need dynamic range and exposure control like real estate. If I was shooting a short film I would use Moment. As always if you feel I am mistaken please let me know.

Keep in mind that you may experience some automatic shadow and highlight changes when you pan. If this is distracting than change it back to global

Filmic Pro ~ my go to for video ~ Until today 09.10.2022‼️ we all know the huge changes with the expensive of the app. It's not that. I had a recent update, which also changed the icon and still the app worked. I just tried to open the app and it FAILS to open no matter what I do ~ so for me this is the end of Filmic Pro and so much for the existing users to keep using the app! I have turned to the Moment app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max which works perfectly.

Bought Pro Camera way back when for my 6s, always was a fantastic app well worth the $! Initially was using it for RAW (or was it TIFF) photos, but I stopped using the app when I got an 11 Pro and haven’t really tried it since including on my current 13 Pro. Anzing video. I can't believe how can Apple use the CAMERA FEATURES to sell MORE iphone units all the time, but they provide a RIDICULOUS set of control for their cameras nativelly. Come on, we can't even control White Balance with the Native App. We should bash harder apple for the lack of such basic controls on an expensive devide like this.

@@bigrod359 That's why I didn't hesitate to purchase it a few years back, I knew this would probably happen. It's probably a good idea to purchase the moment app or similar, I'm pretty sure the same will happen. I don't like placing all my eggs in one basket so I'll probably get another one myself. Reading the reviews in the app store about the moment app crashing etc is putting me off it though.

@@bigrod359 Hi Big Rod, I ended up going with CinemaP3, it's very Good, not expensive for the whole package and no subscription. Again, getting it early is best as I think this is a great Filmic type backup and is getting even better fast. The developer is listening and improving the app as we talk.
