Before anyone else says it again: I actually saw a wedding photographer using a wrist strap in that exact way with a D610 and a 24-105 lens at a wedding. I almost died, but then immediately ordered the same one on amazon so I could make this video 😂

hold up, who actually uses a wrist strap as anything other than a safety tether? I can't imagine anyone walking around, or even standing around, with the camera dangling from their wrist!

I couldn’t imagine it until I saw it. Was shooting a wedding at the same hotel as another photographer and she was rockin her 70-200 like that. I almost died.

Interested to hear about the security of the cameras with the last setup. It may have been the best ergonomically, however, once you remove the camera from the belt, the camera is free in your hands. I would be concerned with dropping the camera due to clumsiness, or someone bumping into me. Thoughts??????????

You missed the camera clip for backpacks like the Peak Design Capture Clip or PGYTECH Beetle Clip. They are more for hiking or climbing and less for weddings. Probably similar weight distribution like the Crossbody strap.

My first impression is that the lady photographer needs a smaller and lighter camera system. If not, in another 15 years, the money she made will just go straight to the doctors. i have no good answer nor brand to recommend, i just know heavy stuff is a bad idea.

We have free healthcare up here 😉 But aside from that, she’s a largely natural light wedding photographer, so she kindof has to stick with full frame. That’s just a part of the business. 🤷🏻‍♂️

With a lens this large and heavy you should attach the strap to the lens and not the camera. With this amount of weight on the camera lens mount it’ll eventually break the mounting ring.

This is a very useful video! One piece of advice I will have is to change the title and name it " best camera straps" or "Camera straps that actually work" or something similar. As a professional photographer, I had a similar problem and I figured out the hard way, by investing in different types of staps. I wish I saw this video earlier

As a physiotherapy student and part time photographer, I can imagine this from both sides. This tutorial was specifically from the physiotherapists perspective, with the conclusion that the holster is probably the best solution. However, I miss the biggest con from the holster: It's the least secure one (except from the wriststrap which was used terribly). Why do you put 2 cards in your camera..? Exactly. The chance is small your files corrupt, and so is the chance of falling your camera. But if it happens... (And who's gonna for real wear a big dslr with a 70-200 + flash via neckstrap for 8h days shifts for years!)

I have actually seen a wedding photographer using a wrist strap in exactly that way before. Additionally, there are many photographers who use the neck strap as such. Around here I would say the majority do. The typical thing is to have one around your neck and one on your shoulder for weddings. I don’t much care for that setup myself. I feel like the one hanging off one shoulder is quite insecure (not to mention the ergonomic issues...) Additionally additionally I find the spider holster much more secure than a strap, which you can easily catch on things and leaves your cameras swinging. I can climb a tree with the spider holster without my cameras having any trouble, as they lock in place (there’s a retention switch you can activate or deactivate) and can’t be moved. Also, it’s easy to steal a camera that’s on a strap, which happens to people all the time (in some places more than others). Much more difficult to steal a holstered camera. I’m not saying it’s absolutely and clearly safer for your camera than a strap, but you have to recognize that they each have plusses and minuses.

Very good theme for a video, thanks! I never warmed to having my camera so exposed at the hip easy to bang into stuff and also people banging into my cameras in crowded places. Since they are so low no one sees them there. And also I have never warmed to the idea of having the camera hang in the tripod socket which isn't meant for that. How do you feel about those two points Wes? I often have two Sony bodys hanging in their regular straps with Peak Design anchor clips/points in between so I can remove the strap easy, which I like when I work with a camera. At times I use a hand strap clipped into the Peak Design anchor clip/point just as security in case I would loose the grip of the camera so it can't fall, so the hand strap is not to hang the weight, only for fall protection. When I use the regular straps I hang the two camera bodys in an X over the torso and I have each camera body in front of each of my arms which makes them come rather high and up on my chest so I can protect them with my arms from the crowd. It is not a good solution but the best I have found. I shot in dark crowded club environments which is why. I have been thinking of the type of clip plate that is used for putting on back pack straps (Peak Designs has such as well in another system) which positions the camera over the chest. If I could have some sort of just harness (like a back pack without the pack part) that looks reasonable okey and positions the straps over my chest then I could have two cameras like that, one on each strap. Easy access and high up, but I haven't found such a harness.

I find it much easier to navigate crowded rooms with the spider holster, because I can very quickly turn sideways and the cameras move with me, instead of swinging around, as I squeeze between people and tables and chairs. And I was indeed initially reticent about using the tripod socket for such things, but I’ve never heard of one coming out before. They certainty seem to be very intrinsically connected to the structure of the camera body. I suspect that the Spider Holster or Black Rapid companies would be on the hook for a lot of damages if the mount commonly came apart. And they’ve been around for a while now with no todo to speak of. I think we’re all good for that, within reason.

I had a cervical spine fusion at 3 levels. I use micro 4/3 cameras and a cross chest strap with wait on one shoulder. I use the same when I carry my Fuji X Pro 2. I typically don't experience pain. I also use a wrist strap on occasion, but I wear it on my left wrist to keep my right hand free, as I am right handed. I still operate the camera primarily with my right hand and hold it in my left.

Unfortunately I had never even heard of it back then. I think I saw one for the first time a year and a half ago. This video was mostly targeting wedding and event usage, where I see the cotton as more wilderness and hiking targeted anyway.

Hah! Great video! am 70 years young and I still use the dual spider's on my hip. I shoot dual EM1Xs and the 300 mil f4 and the 100-400 f5-6.3 and have them mounted on the spider system. I can still walk (albeit, very slowly) with the two cams when out bird shooting. The other day I tried a strap system from Amazon which was VERY cheap, but I found out that a strap with the cams dangling precariously is not for me, the Spider System gives me a whole lot more felling of security. 😏 I like wearing vests anyway, but I feel that it makes it easier for people at a large event to know that “I’m the guy”. Since I have smaller mirrorless cameras, at times people don’t really expect me to be “a professional”. Real professionals have D5’s or 1Dxii’s 🤷🏻‍♂️😂

I feel like that one would be a little more straightforward. As little weight as possible, backpacks with two straps are better, especially if there’s a belt strap (as he mentions in this video). That’s not necessarily ideal for easy access to gear, though 😉

Their photographer was actually swinging a D610 with a 24-105 from a wrist strap much like the one in the video. It blew my mind.
