One of the greatest (and loudest) race cars that I have ever heard (not including dragsters) was at Brands Hatch in England. This was many years ago before I moved to Canada. It was a 1.5 ltr BRM F1 car. Probably built in 1952. It had a V-16 engine, double supercharged running on alcohol. Estimated 600 hp. It was a demo run with Stirling Moss at the wheel. You could here that engine when the car was at the far side of the track, just screaming. The sound was similar to the V-10's and 12's of modern times around the 1990's, Ferrari etc. Just amazing. Great video of course.

Great video 19Bozzy92! In the second clip of the DFV-powered F1 cars (starting at 24:36), it looks like there's a black JPS-sponsored Lotus-Honda in the last few seconds of the clip. I know of only one black F1 car of that time, and it was the Lotus-Honda with the turbo V6 (Senna, Mansell, de Angelis all drove those)
