Last First Rockets are good because they are able to counter all units, not just infantry. The 450 damage with splash 4 makes it look like it's doing less because you don't get the +10 of heavy cannon, but in reality it does so much more damage, just spread out. Also they murder dragoons like no one has seen.

I know not technically Cav, but Eagle Knight runners are pretty damn good. 1 pop, fairly cheap, fast, decent range, decent upgrades available and the fire rate is quick! My favourite for taking down Gendermes.

Rifle riders was my vote but i get the war wagon thing they are really strong units against most late game units (rods shred them though lol) To anyone who thinks the french cav is bad, when the game was first released the thoroughbreds card dropped the pop on gendarmes to only 2 in addition to instant train! Oh and with Oprichniks, if you have the advanced arsenal and boyers card they go up to 157 x 1.25 seige (about 195) which is INSANE thats like a falconet but you can have 50 of them and they are quick lol

The Jinet Dragoons can have 20 range with Ports not just 18 :) that's why I voted for them instead of War Wagon, and cuz they cost only 2 Pop and are faster, but I definitely understand everyone who picked War Wagon, great unit

Cuirassiers can be killed by sams with some efficiency the only problems are that they are slower and the japanese economy is generally weaker by the late game even with cows on all shrines.

BTA Channel oh and the other reason is that in the late game a lot of french players will just build one stable as an fb because they think they can get away with it because spawn cav in instantly. Sams can potentially push french cav back and destroy their stables fast enough for them not to be able to spawn in enough supplemental units to keep fighting. The point is, it really depends on the circumstances. Sams are generally ambush units and are the last thing that should be used in any extended engagement.

Really got to disagree with the rankings for ranged cavalry. Ranged resistance is critical for the power of ranged cavalry. Because of their high speed and kiting capabilities. Therefore the rifle river, bow rider, Ruyter and war wagon just can't do it for me. War wagon are also annoying because of their large size, and awkward pathing. My ranking would be as folling1. Portuguese Jinettes2. Aztec Eagle Runner Knight3. Other Dragoons4. War wagons.5. Ruyters6. Musket Rider

I use Oprichnicks in Single Player, it's just that the AI brings in pikemen and halberdiers and kills them in less than a second.

AI is so stupid. Just distract the enemy by attacking the trading post or smthing else and enjoy. Also put a couple of guys to guard the forest. I won a game with 61 loss of units vs 2691 enemy losses and 25 destroyed buildings vs 349 destroyed enemy buildings. Oprichnik is the best cav in game.

Cuirassier is deemed the best because of one thing,Those God damn Coureur. Coureur 20% Faster Gather Rate means that 80 Coureur = 96 Settler,but don't forget Code Napoleon. Plus since the French Max Villager is 80,the 120 can be spent on 40 Cuirassier. XD
