We speak Hoiping dialect, which sounds almost the same as Toisanese. We're both part of the four counties in southern China known as "Sai Yip. The other two counties are Yinping and Sunwui. Basically it's four counties all speaking the same or similar dialect. Thanks for checking out my video. Are you living in the U;S.?

I have a suggestion for a nostalgic dim sum place you should try... Flamingo...
@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV
@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion. I went to a banquet there on Cambie Street a few years when I was a director for the Chinese Canadian Historical Society of B.C. I heard the owner sold the restaurant to real estate developers and the workers got a bonus when they closed. I also heard they were relocating to Marine Drive but I'm not sure if that's true. Also, I heard some of their kids started a new modern take on dim sum on Broadway but I can't find the newspaper clipping on it. Thanks for checking out my video.

Looks like more fusion cuisine. Siu Mai is definitely dim sum staple. Joong is too, but this version of the lotus leaf rice tamale looks kinda watered down. The glutinous rice doesn't look sticky enough. Doesn't look like it absorbed the juices from the filling, either. And fried noodles and pork chops, kinda an odd thing to see at dim sum. Um. This mom looks like she wants siu mai, the shrimp dumplings, the mini spare ribs and chicken feet, for starters.
@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV
@DanSetoChineseCanadianRootsTV Жыл бұрын
The rice wasn't glutinous rice and it wasn't claypot rice so I don't know what to classify it as. My mom went to dim sum yesterday and she did have the chicken feet, spareribs and asked for jelly fish which wasn't on the menu. She went to the Seaport Restaurant in City Square, which used to be the Kirin Restaurant. You're pretty accurate about what she likes. Thanks for checking out my video.

Oh my goodness, I’ve never seen abalone topped dimsum before. I won’t ask how much that cost. Where I live in the SF East Bay, the best dimsum restaurant that’s not in Chinatown recently closed. I was very sad.

Dishes look amazing.... Unfortunately, I think you had several Inaccurate descriptions on how courses are prepared.. As an example, the pork chop does not appear braised.. Braising is, "the cooking of meat or vegetables by heating them slowly with oil and moisture in a tightly sealed vessel. Braising differs from stewing, in which the food is immersed in liquid, and from covered roasting, in which no liquid is added. Braising is a combination of covered roasting and steaming." It may just be simmered ? I've also been to Cantonese restaurants advertised their fish dish as braised.. Braising fish does not make sense to me as it will just fall apart. That does not look like "PLUM Sauce" either.. It looks more like Thai Sweet Chili sauce ?

Abalone is too expensive to eat now! last time I was going to buy a can it would had cost me £55 in Chinatown in Liverpool! it was in a locked glass cabinet, I just started laughing at the idea of it locked away like gold! that was over 25 years ago, I have not been back there in all of this time but the manners of some of the workers there are very questionable.

It's the same with abalone in our area. The Asian supermarkets keep the abalone locked in the fridges and freezers. I was surprised they served abalone siu mai dumplings in the restaurant in this video. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Thanks for checking out my video.
