My wife and I relocated to Morelia, Michoacan two years ago. She's a Mexican citizen and I'm from Reno, Nevada. The year round climate, the cost of living, culture, people, architecture, and of course, the food, are all reasons that make Mexico desirable. We've never been approached or victimized by ANY crime in Mexico, and have never been made to feel unwelcome. If you look for trouble, you can find it, just like anywhere else in the world. It's certainly been the best move I've ever made. VIVA MEXICO 🇲🇽

Funny thing is that I vacationed in Mexico dozens of times (being from Texas, it was easy) but when it came time to retire... I never even considered Mexico. Great vacation spot but it never occurred to me to live there. I have been in Iloilo, Philippines for 10 years and love it. But flights to visit my kids and grand-kids would be a lot cheaper and shorter. 😎

When choosing a “permanent” place to retire for good, considering your budget amongst other things, like climate etc, there is no best, country, city or region! It’s what accommodates you best! As a retired Mexican national Airline Pilot, arrived in ‘88 in La Paz, in BAJA California Sur, still here, living in a nice neighbourhood! Originally from the northern state is Sonora in Obregón, in the heart of the fertile agricultural Valle del Yaqui! Have you been to colonial Alamos, Sonora of rich history and few people ?…. Less than 20,000, no Home Depot, Walmart, no Costco, no Sam’s Club, only local markets! Great late 18 century Arched portal homes! Want the ocean, for that San Carlos!

I love Mexico and have been there many times. The places you mention have one thing in common: they are rather expensive, at least by Mexican standards. For those of us on a tighter budget I would recommend Guadalajara and Puebla ... both charming historic bigger cities but not as hectic as Mexico City.

I moved from Phoenix to Cabo San Lucas 2 years ago. The weather is amazing 10 months a year and is the least humid beach in Mexico by far. The weather on the east coast is horrible with humidity and nasty seaweed. It has some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen in my life and I've been to more than 30 different countries. I absolutely love it here the culture, weather, food and the energy.

The infrastructure has changed a lot. Lots of construction, but the people haven't changed. I have to leave in a couple of weeks, but I hope to return very soon. As a long time resident of Cuernavaca since 1995, I can say NEVER had any problem. I think the risk is the same in any city. One has to take precautions just as you would in any other city anywhere. There are gated communnities for those who need them. I fell safer here than in the US !! And the cuisine and weather is a definite plus. I've been travelling/driving mostly, ALL over Mexico for 25 years. The Baja, The west coast, Oaxaca state, Chiapas, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, Tobasco, Guadalajara, etc. Firstly, Playa Carmen is known as Playa del Crimon by the locals (crime), and just because you haven't personally witnessed the Cartel violence, let me assure you it is definitely there. In fact, in Tulum while there we saw the first page of a newspaper with a pic of a beheaded guy. And yes, tourists have been caught in the crossfire. And Gringo businesses have been targeted all over "Cartelville". There's a lot of places I'd consider living in MX that are amazingly beautiful and safe, but none of these are them, for a wide variety of reasons. This list here is the same list all the other Gringos that aren't in tune with Mexico give. Move along...

And how you call the towns where mass shootings occur in the US, mass shootings - ville?. And where the drug addicts live, drug addicts - ville?. Remember, the cartels came to exit only because of the existence of the drug culture in your country, that patronize the cartels and the US government that allows the firearms that the cartels used, to be smuggle into Mexico. If you want to eliminate the cartels, just stop using drugs!. Why does your country does nothing to eliminate the drug culture?.

Lived in Patzcuaro, Michoacan since 2012. Smaller town of about 70,000. Very busy as a center for many other villages. 7,000 feet in the extinct Mexican Transvolcanic range. Weather is beautiful, all year round! 70 degree days in the winter, no higher than 80 in the summer. Very cheap to live. Never saw any violence in 10 years. Not afraid to walk at night. I had a house built in a development on a hillside, 20 minute walk from El Centro. Home of Noche de Muertos! 30 some miles from Morelia, the Capitol. All your box stores there. None in Patzcuaro! My passport lapsed in 2017, never going back!

that's hard to say...if you are looking to rent, it is trickier if you have a big dog -- small dogs are much easier. But you only need one person to say yes! Many of these towns are dog friendly (in public places) -- to find condos that accept pets it's more on a case by case basis.

Guadalajara should have been on the list. San Miguel de Allende is too far from bigger cities and airports.

You definitely need a car in Cabo. It's extremely expensive. The traffic is horrible. It's just a wierd layout. San Jose is more layback, but expensive. And you need a car. It takes more than 20 minutes to get between the 2.

We spend the winter in San Jose del Cabo, great for walking, no need for a car, there is a local bus that costs 26 pesos for 2 people anywhere along the Malecon

I dont understand, the most of you think Mexico is a dangerous countrie, why are you moving there?

I would say Mexico is less dangerous than the US where crime is one of the highest in the world. Have you heard of propaganda because of jealousy? That's what it's all about. As usual they use fear as a means to scare people from taking their $ to another place.

Been in Morelia, Michoacan for two years. Never seen any evidence of violent crime. Always feel safe, not a tourist enclave, even though it's a fairly large city...

6 people were just gunned down at an elementary school in the states today. If anything people should be afraid to come to America not go to Mexico. When people ask me if I feel safe in mexico I ask if they feel safe at their grocery store, school, place of employment, church, movie theater etc.

The sound track is at a very low level. To hear the commentary, I had to turn up my volume control. When an ad-clip came on it was not regulated in volume, and it was terribly loud. This should not happen. All the clips associated with a video should be modulated to the same level. I stopped watching "Best Cities..." I don't want to be deaf when I retire.

I’m watching this video to find the cities NOT to retire in Mexico. You know the cost of living in any city recommended here will be higher than other cities in Mexico due to gringo retirees moving there and making the price of everything go up.

My family's from there as am I ' but raised in U.S.. we've had businesses in Mejico since the 70s. But we've started to relocate to Portugal..
