@@ML-sc3pt I don’t think HIPAA would apply. The caller from the “pregnancy center” would be the only one HIPPA could apply to in this situation, as they are the medical provider. They called via phone and confirmed who they are speaking with prior to disclosing and they’d have no reason to believe they are on speaker. As for the teacher/school, I’m sure there are some laws/codes that were violated but just not HIPAA.

@@TheWTFreally I mean as long as he disclosed the policy at the beginning of the year and gave ample time for students to adjust I would see no reason he couldn’t implement it which is probably why it was allowed in the first place. You can easily avoid these situations by calling your care team and asking that they contact you via email, text or even snail mail instead of calling or inform them of bad hours on your end. Care teams are happy to work with their patients and they don’t have only one point of contact. The policy is fine.

HIPAA only applies to those who have your medical data (primarily medical facilities and health insurance) and how/they are and are not allowed to transmit it. The professor never had medical data, is not in position where he would have medical data and he did not disclose any medical data.

I'm a dinosaur so back when I was in school we didn't have cell phones, but, here's what I did to a teacher. There was this one history teacher who, if someone was chewing gum or eating in his class, would say something like "what's that you're chewing there? Did you bring enough for everyone? You didn't ? Well, that's very rude. Why don't you toss it in the trash then?" So, of course, one day I was loudly munching on candy in class and the teacher started in on the usual questions and when he asked me if I brought some for everyone he was surprised to hear me say "as a matter of fact I did!" So I started passing out pieces of candy to everyone in class and even put one on the teacher's desk before I sat down. He just shook his head but he was a pretty good sport about it. I'll tell you one thing though - he never asked another student if they had enough to share again!
