That's a pretty nice clean looking OTR. That's still got the maff sensor on it?
@freddienz687 жыл бұрын
it has still got the maff in front of the throttle body. it going to cost me $1200 to get the maff removed and the ecu remapped ( reprogrammed) I actually don't understand how the tuners can justify 1200 bucks worth of tuning. If somebody out there knows, please tell me
@mitweiler7 жыл бұрын
freddienz68 I know it's ridiculous. That $1200 includes dyno, you can for $500 just get the chip which has a prefigured tune to suit your mods. Just swap out your ecu with that one and return yours to them.

I was looking down that path but I didn't really liked what I saw. Every car is slightly different. What you are referring to I think is just a base line tune. it would probably be ok. but to get it prefect they'll need to have your car. unless you go to something like OZ TRAK e.f.i live tuning services. they send you a ecu and a autocal device for communication between your car and pc then e-mail them your ecu's driving settings. then they adjust the info they have and send the new adjusted info back to you.

freddienz68 $1200!? that’s crazy expensive. Nice intake setup man. Kinda similar to how mine is in the way of no unnecessary tubes with bends... just a straight shot 👍🏼

Ok I can actually explain the costs..sorry few years late...but may help someone else. When you get a dyno tune maffless or maff regardless, your paying for the Dyno time. The tune and obviously the tuner/technician mechanic to do the install and for a license to use particular software. Some people may say it's a locked ECU or locked tune. This means the program is patented or owned or modified by that particular tuner. When your ECU is unlocked and or locked with a new tune, its protected by certain firewalls or malware software. This may actually be owned by particular tuner which puts them ahead of others. Hence...the cost. Now, remember the dyno itself is an expensive tool. So it has to be paid for somehow. An good tuner wont just pull a random tune off the shelf and download to your car. Yes there is many preset/preconfigured tunes/software available. This is where it gets technical. ..a good tuner understands many fuel air parameters and other contributing factors to a good tune vs poor tune. Biggest mistake customers make is chasing the highest horsepower numbers. It's about torque, hp, drivability and reliability. A good tuner will advise you on your setup ie auto or manual...full exhaust or otr etc etc and assist you with your goals and good advice. Lastly a good tuner is the one where you leave feeling happy about the results yes but more importantly your car is performing the way it should be.

Did you have to drill a hole in the unit for the rubber grommet?
@freddienz685 жыл бұрын
No... the holes are in there already.
@freddienz685 жыл бұрын
It comes ready to go . Don't need to drill or trim anything on the OTR intake.

Where can I get an x-air?

OK. I found it on bohnmanscustoms.com.au I think I know why you didn't have to alter anything. You have an 04 5.7L, and I have an 05 6L. Bohnman says I'll have to trim my radiator shroud and fan shroud. Something I'd rather not do, although I don't mind removing the radiator shroud off. The vcm brand otr says trim radiator shroud only, and drill hole for rubber grommet. For $ 340, the VCM unit should already have the grommet hole! SMH.

What happen to the crankcase tube did you delete it?
@freddienz684 жыл бұрын
One goes from the valve cover to the throttle body and there is another one that goes from the valley to the intake manifold. They are located quite close together...above and below each other. In part 3 of my ls1 BREATHING system update it going into a catch can first. Go check out my other videos on the subject.

Dude the “diy catch can” you have here is totally not in the right spot. Your PCV line (the one that’s like a U) is what you need to use. You’re using fresh valve cover air line into the throttle body 😂
