I've had my M7000 brakes since 2017 and it has never ever failed me, it has saved my life multiple times because of how strong the brakes are. I run them on a 180mm Ice-tech rotors on the front and 160mm on the back. Love it to death, I definitely see the dfferences between the two newer brakes and the M7000 but I don't see any reason to drop my M7000 for these two. Great in-depth review, keep it up!!

@seb.evidente What bike are you riding? I have the M7100's on my Chameleon and they are great. I am looking for a Shimano replacement for my Sram Guide R's on my Giant Trance 29er. Can't decide whether to go for another set of M7100 or M7120 for he Giant. Any thoughts? Giant does far more steep descending than Chameleon.
@seb.evidente73283 жыл бұрын
@@David-rb3tk hello there, I ride a 2017 Cannondale Trail 29er. If your choice is between the identical M7100 and the M7120, the trails you ride and your riding preference will be the only deciding factor. M7100 only has 2 piston brakes which I reckon are quite similar to the stock ones you have on your giant, they were designed with XC riders like me in mind. They're not as strong as the M7120s but are just as durable and everything else. I'd argue that they last a bit longer and maintenance is easier since you only have to care for 2 pistons, and you'll be buying brake pads less often since the M7100s are weaker. The M7120s on the other hand, are more suited for Enduro, Downhill because those disciplines require stronger brakes. If you used the M7120s them for XC you might find yourself flying over the bar more often because they're too strong. They easier to modulate, so less of that "on and off" feeling when you brake, they require more maintenance (you have to care for 4 pistons) and are just as durable, provided you dilligently change the brake pads. To conclude, the difference is that the M7120s are stronger than the M7100s, they're also more expensive to purchase and maintain but if you ride trails/enduro/downhill, they're perfect. The M7100s are adequately strong, more for XC, cheaper to buy and maintain. If money's no issue, the trails you usually ride (Enduro or XC) will be the only deciding factor.

The "free stroke" adjustment regulates the useful travel of the lever when pressing the brake, you can have greater travel and progressiveness, or less travel and immediacy. It is true that it may not compensate for the price difference, but it has its function. Best regards!

Then when comparing prices of Metal pads since those sets were equipped with the basic resin pads and of course only considering buying from a legit source led to pricing everything from the Deore M6100 to SLX, to the XT M8120. In the end the XT M8120 front and rear purchased through verified Shimano dealers made the most sense. why people keep persisting that the 7100 series doesn't have free stroke adjustment. It has, but it uses a different screw. It uses a snake eye screw. So you need a snake eye screwdriver or you could easily remove that screw and use a conventional one. And it does make a difference , it is just a 2 step adjument. Not just screw and unscrew the dedicated bolt.

I’ve just got the new SLX brake set after 1 week of deliberations between the SLX and XT (both 4 piston calliper versions). Bare in mind my current brakes where M365 at £40 for the complete set (so really old and crappy). It came down to, the XT and SLX are identical except the colour and the SLX are almost £50 cheaper than the XT. This was the decider for me, £50 cheaper just because of the colour finish. This left me with enough to get 2 pairs of new ceramic pads and still have almost £37 left to spend on beer 🍺. Get the SLX if you don’t care about the finish colouring, or if your bike is blue (like mine) because they’re the exact same technology 👍

im currently on my slxm7000, sold another set of m8000, figured they will simply sell better being XT. however that makes it the 3rd set of shimano brakes I ve had that are a disappointment due to inconsistent bite point on the rear brake(also previous old gen XT which i replaced due to that). My friend is running the 3-digit SLX old gen and those work fine. I am a fan of shimano but so far their brakes did not impress me. They work, they are easy (but messy) to bleed, but the lack of modulation and mostly consistency is a bit meh. Other than that, as a fan of price:performance, bought my bike with full SLX groupset, I don't think one can go wrong there and I see very little reasons for XT. Even deore would be nice.

Do they have the same braking power?, I want to believe that they do, since they both have ceramic pots (same size). Now, if that’s the case, then what’s the main difference?, the color? , materials?, XT with a “more premium” finish and price?

Anybody tried to replace the brake lids of M7100 into M675? Is it possible? Older versions of SLX brakesets are aesthetically good.

Hey Dude, loving your channel. I'm looking to upgrade my Shinmano Deore brakes. I'm currently running BR-M615 but they just don't stop me enough anymore. I've been leaning towards SLX but heard good things about the MT 501 brakes. Thanks

I have M7000's on one bike and love them to death. Super powerful, great feel, just tremendous brakes! I just upgraded brakes on another bike to the M7120's and im not gonna lie i'm not digging them so far. The newer levers "feel smaller" and i just dont feel they have a power the 7000's had. Im not sure exactly what changed. I only have a couple rides on the 7120's so maybe they need more seat time? We will see. If not ill be on the hunt for another m7000 brake set!

Do you have any plans on trying Formula, Hope Tech, Trick Stuff Maxima? The last mentioned is the most expensive brakes. several people has shared their love for the Trick stuff brakes, they are apparently the most powerful brakes on the market. another nice thing is they use refined sunflower seed oil as brake fluid. Many have advice me against going for Hope Tech, cus of the toxic, corrosive fluid. Formula Cura 4 has been recommended if I am not willing to go for Trickstuff

@@LoveMTB Micro spline was delayed cus Shimano restricted access and was slow to allow Hope, it was one of the last companies that finally got permission/license for it. but how fast things come can vary from country to country and what stores offer, but now due to corona virus there are delays.

@@LoveMTB right now the new Five Ten shoes are impossible to get, out of stock everywhere, and Adidas online store has none in my size, only one size came up, and before they did not even have one size. probably production delay. so expect that with all brands, products, delays everywhere. so knowing about many shops is important, I know many, but still some won't ship internationally due to corona like bike-components, some shops closed completely. here in Norway corona numbers arte quite good, but the problem is getting product to the importer, so shop don't have all products in yet, delayed by months, and Norway usually is few months behind US market anyway before corona., But I have all I need now, just need new helmet soon, but could not decide yet. also want to try different brakes, tyres.

I buy the old slx It was very difficult to find a kit because they told me that Shimano stopped manufacturing the SLX M7000 and would replace them with M7100 and offered a suitable price for me M7100 but I refused the offer and I bought the M7000 each one separately and my insistence on the old design aesthetic shape and the final touches and by the way the performance did not differ With the new design, I Shimano M7000, if the performance is different here makes a difference but does not exist.
