Great review! I own the Ora's and the Swan's right now, and I've been using the micro monitors for 5 years and I do share almost all your opinions: I Used the iLouds for long time in my desktop and I was extremely happy with them, analityc sound precise bass... they are incredible, but then I moved out and I put them in the living room paired with an SMSL C200. That was an error... They were still good but don't try to fill a big room with this little ones as you will loose most of its precision and characteristic sound. That's when the Swan's came in action. Extremely happy with them but I suggest to pair them with a DAC or something like the SMSL PS100 if you have it connected to your TV (and your TV allowes it) but i wouldn't use them in a desktop if I'm honest, to me they sound more like bookshelf speaker and they are able to fill a bigger room, which is not a problem neither for nearfield speakers, but for that purpose I think there are better options. Lately I was so hyped with the Ora's that I sold my iLouds and got those. Quite happy with them as well, but for my taste they have too much base... and it is not as precise as the iloud's bass. In the other hand, the sound is more natural and I completely agree that you can listen to them the whole day and you won't have fatigue at all. (Edit:) I have to say that I use the Ora's now paired to my SMSL C200 because the sound is better than using its integrated DAC. If you ask me, for you desktop, iLouds or Oras, but I couldn't set a winner between these two, as I prefer the sound of the Micro monitors to analyse music, and the Oras to play videogames, watch videos and listen more "mainstream" music. Swan OS10 defenetly for a bigger room or as TV speakers, they sound BIG! Nice to discover this channel!

From someone who actually prefers videos with frequency response graphs and technical analysis, it’s astounding how little the audiophile community seems to care about the speakers actually fitting on computer setup. IEMs, and even headphone focused audiophiles seem to take a lot into consideration besides just sound, but on the speaker side, where the physical shape of the transducer seem to matter the most, it seems like a lot of audiophiles just write out anything that isn’t the best on a pure “sound/penny” basis.

hi, engineer here. the 3 pin thing, is for dual power supply, the other option is to have a virtual ground inside (not optimal) or putting the PS inside (requiring AC adapter) again not optimal. Or worse Using a single supply Amp (requiring big output capacitors), So a good Switch mode dual power supply is the better option.

You state that ypu are not an audiophile but I think you did an OUTSTANDING job of presenting the details on this range of speakers. I am facing the same issue and bought the Audioengine 1s and whilst they sound ok its just not special especially without a sub. Today I have the Sonas Era 100 being delivered where I will add a second for stereo which might be over kill and wont be aesthetically pleasing. The think about these speakers is that (for me at least) its a guilty pleasure in that I work long hours and it would be nice to have some great sounding music whilst Im working and on that point it will need to be low volume so I can concentrate BUT high quality with good tone and enough bass ( like having a loudness button back in the day). I am extremly tempted by your recommendation for the Kanta Ora , so the Sonas may be going back, and you described them well and the larger speakers. Great job-- thank you

I found a set of iLoud Micros available locally on Craigslist for about half of retail. Like you I am also dealing with space constraints on my desk, but no speaker with small drivers will effectively produce bass at reasonable volume levels ... so I added an Adam Audio Sub7 that fits hidden under my desk to round them out. The Sub7 has built in crossovers, so you aren't asking the iLoud's to reproduce frequencies they aren't necessarily made for. The iLoud / Sub7 makes for a super-solid full-range listening setup!
@Javi-bk6me4 ай бұрын
Hi, how could you connect the subwoofer to the speakers?
@eriksark48834 ай бұрын
@@Javi-bk6me - come out of the computer / interface TRS->XLR on the back of the Sub7, the Sub7 has an onboard adjustable crossover, then connect the post-crossover output of the Sub7 XLR->RCA to the iLoud Micros. Since the Micros are only fed the high-pass signal from the Sub7 - they aren't being asked to reproduce those sub-bass frequencies that they are not suited for.

Hey Jasper, great video! Question about the Kanto Ora, with a short explanation… I tried an active speaker combo (Argon Audio A4) on my desk a while back and was annoyed by a buzz that was audible when it was playing no sound or delicate music. It was only audible up to about a meter, but that’s an issue when using it as computer speakers on a desk :) I was told this is typical for these types of active speakers (note that these weren’t meant as desk speakers), and the options are (1) get external amp and move it further away or (2) go for an all digital wireless kind of speaker that has different electronics. Which brings me to my question: how are the Oras? Any perceivable buzz when on but not playing sound? (Yes, I realise I can turn them off, but I often switch off music for a bit when I need to focus and don’t want to bother switching on and off every time :-)

@Jasper_Tech7 ай бұрын
Thanks for this suggestion - I have been thinking about making a video about my desk setup in general. 🙂 If you have two monitors, your desk is against the wall, and you don’t care much about moving your monitors around regularly, then I recommend this arm (it’s what I use - see my note below tho) amzn.to/4bF8zc2 The telescoping aspect makes it perfect for desks against the wall (many other arms require having much more space behind the desk). My 3 monitors setup is actually two of these arms smashed together. I had to use a dremel tool to make extensions from the second monitor set. Not the most elegant, but it works!

After trying desktop speakers without sub and finally tried the the fusion sub I would highly recommend to use these small speakers with a small sub like the canton ASF 75 or the Wavemaster Fusion and you will be really happy. When you can, try to get your hands on some B&W M1's. I have tried many speakers over the years on my desks. I own the iLoud Micro Minis, some Kanto YU4's, NHT Super Zero's, B&W M1B's, a Polk Insigna S4, Kef Q100s and Q150s, along with many others. Hands down the B&W M1Bs sound the best. I have a subwoofer so the desktop speakers only have to handle above 80hz. Hands down, for my use I really enjoy the B&W M1Bs. They are so much fun to listen to even though I am using a Sony STRHD790 receiver along with the Crown XLS1002 powering a 12" Infinity Subwoofer in a 4.6 cu foot box with an F3 of 19hz fed from a Rolls M15B signal format changer/line driver (converts RCA LFE out from the Sony to XLR and allows me to raise the voltage to get proper power out of the Crown XLS1002). The Kanto YU4's have Kevlar cones which I do not like the sound of. The NHT's have a paper cone which I do not like the sound of. The iLoud Micro Mini's have an inherent design flaw which drove me bonkers. Here is what someone who went into the flaw said: when playing a B3 or Bb3 or the same notes an octave above (B4, Bb4) at higher velocities/volumes the left speaker makes a very noticeable high pitched buzzing noise as if a piece of hardware within the speaker is resonating with the note. The is especially prominent when playing Rhodes tones from my keyboard and from Keyscape. I also hear this buzzing occasionally when watching videos where the voices are in the same ranges."

Only concern is that in ORAs spec sheet the lowest frequency they have is 70hz whereas iLouds have 45hz. As lows are very important for me, do you think there is any difference between them? Thanks!

I think the iLouds probably will go a bit lower. The way they produce bass feels like magic.

I am torn between Klipsch R-41 PM or Kanto Ora. There Will be a sub. Usage Will be for gaming and movies in a smaller office. Any advice?

I’ve never tried the R-41 PM, but they seem like a really solid option. Without having tried them it’s hard to offer an opinion, but… I think since these speakers are for a smaller office, I’d go with the ORAs. They’re far more compact and will suit an office application really well. If you were looking to fill a bigger room with sound, I’d say pass on the ORAs since peak volume is not their strength. Hope this helps!

I'm debating between the Kanto Ora and Kanto YU6 for my desktop. Space is not really an issue for me. Anyone have an opinion on which way I should go?

Two solid options, but two very different speakers. What are you prioritizing? If you want very clear and accurate but not super loud, the ORA. If you want something with more bass and volume, the YU6. You may also want to consider this option, it’s a great speaker and really solid value: amzn.to/3BmYl2M

Thanks for this review. How do you think the Kanto ORA's compare to the Kanto YU4 as a pc-speaker set?
@Jasper_Tech7 ай бұрын
Good question! I think it depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a balanced ‘monitor’ that has a neutral response across the board, I’d go for the ORAs. If you want something that can be played loud and/or fill a room + has a more punchy bass response, I’d go for the YU4. To make this a little harder still, Kanto will be coming out with the ORA 4 in the USA early October. Personally, I’d go for the ORA now and then see if you think it’s worth upgrading once you’ve seen the price/performance of the ORA 4.

My Kanto Ora just arrived and they sound GREAT--- thank you so much -- Im glad the Sonas Era 100 wouldnt connect to wifi as these are better, they look nicer ( on the stands) and sound better stereo separation and are half the price ( of 2 sonas) . THANK YOU for a great recommendation

Do the Oras have an output for a subwoofer? Curious how the A2’s and lower end Kanto sound with a sub?
@Jasper_Tech6 ай бұрын
The ORAs do have a sub out! I have not tried it yet, because personally I don't think they need more bass. I do live in a NYC apartment though so part of that comes from my desire to not upset my neighbors. I think the A2s plus a sub would also be a great combo.

What about the Klipsch Promedia?
@Jasper_Tech8 ай бұрын
I’d go for the Swans OS-10 over the Klipsch Promedia.
