Great review! I own the Ora's and the Swan's right now, and I've been using the micro monitors for 5 years and I do share almost all your opinions: I Used the iLouds for long time in my desktop and I was extremely happy with them, analityc sound precise bass... they are incredible, but then I moved out and I put them in the living room paired with an SMSL C200. That was an error... They were still good but don't try to fill a big room with this little ones as you will loose most of its precision and characteristic sound. That's when the Swan's came in action. Extremely happy with them but I suggest to pair them with a DAC or something like the SMSL PS100 if you have it connected to your TV (and your TV allowes it) but i wouldn't use them in a desktop if I'm honest, to me they sound more like bookshelf speaker and they are able to fill a bigger room, which is not a problem neither for nearfield speakers, but for that purpose I think there are better options. Lately I was so hyped with the Ora's that I sold my iLouds and got those. Quite happy with them as well, but for my taste they have too much base... and it is not as precise as the iloud's bass. In the other hand, the sound is more natural and I completely agree that you can listen to them the whole day and you won't have fatigue at all. (Edit:) I have to say that I use the Ora's now paired to my SMSL C200 because the sound is better than using its integrated DAC. If you ask me, for you desktop, iLouds or Oras, but I couldn't set a winner between these two, as I prefer the sound of the Micro monitors to analyse music, and the Oras to play videogames, watch videos and listen more "mainstream" music. Swan OS10 defenetly for a bigger room or as TV speakers, they sound BIG! Nice to discover this channel!

I'm honestly quite happy and the size of them is still relatively small as I'm space conscious (as tall as A2 on stands, 6.5 inches deep, not including the cables). I tried the A2 and iLouds but honestly wasn't too impressed... Good review!

After trying desktop speakers without sub and finally tried the the fusion sub I would highly recommend to use these small speakers with a small sub like the canton ASF 75 or the Wavemaster Fusion and you will be really happy. I found a set of iLoud Micros available locally on Craigslist for about half of retail. Like you I am also dealing with space constraints on my desk, but no speaker with small drivers will effectively produce bass at reasonable volume levels ... so I added an Adam Audio Sub7 that fits hidden under my desk to round them out. The Sub7 has built in crossovers, so you aren't asking the iLoud's to reproduce frequencies they aren't necessarily made for. The iLoud / Sub7 makes for a super-solid full-range listening setup!
@Javi-bk6meАй бұрын
Hi, how could you connect the subwoofer to the speakers?

@@Javi-bk6me - come out of the computer / interface TRS->XLR on the back of the Sub7, the Sub7 has an onboard adjustable crossover, then connect the post-crossover output of the Sub7 XLR->RCA to the iLoud Micros. When you can, try to get your hands on some B&W M1's. I have tried many speakers over the years on my desks. I own the iLoud Micro Minis, some Kanto YU4's, NHT Super Zero's, B&W M1B's, a Polk Insigna S4, Kef Q100s and Q150s, along with many others. Hands down the B&W M1Bs sound the best. I have a subwoofer so the desktop speakers only have to handle above 80hz. Hands down, for my use I really enjoy the B&W M1Bs. They are so much fun to listen to even though I am using a Sony STRHD790 receiver along with the Crown XLS1002 powering a 12" Infinity Subwoofer in a 4.6 cu foot box with an F3 of 19hz fed from a Rolls M15B signal format changer/line driver (converts RCA LFE out from the Sony to XLR and allows me to raise the voltage to get proper power out of the Crown XLS1002). The Kanto YU4's have Kevlar cones which I do not like the sound of. The NHT's have a paper cone which I do not like the sound of. The iLoud Micro Mini's have an inherent design flaw which drove me bonkers. Here is what someone who went into the flaw said: when playing a B3 or Bb3 or the same notes an octave above (B4, Bb4) at higher velocities/volumes the left speaker makes a very noticeable high pitched buzzing noise as if a piece of hardware within the speaker is resonating with the note. The is especially prominent when playing Rhodes tones from my keyboard and from Keyscape. I also hear this buzzing occasionally when watching videos where the voices are in the same ranges."

As a person with the same size desk and a multi-monitor set up, this video spoke to my minimalist not-quite-audiophile-but-wants-good-sound soul. What monitor arms are you using? Would love a minimalist desk breakdown!
@Jasper-Tech4 ай бұрын
Thanks for this suggestion - I have been thinking about making a video about my desk setup in general. 🙂 If you have two monitors, your desk is against the wall, and you don’t care much about moving your monitors around regularly, then I recommend this arm (it’s what I use - see my note below tho) amzn.to/4bF8zc2 The telescoping aspect makes it perfect for desks against the wall (many other arms require having much more space behind the desk). My 3 monitors setup is actually two of these arms smashed together. I had to use a dremel tool to make extensions from the second monitor set. Not the most elegant, but it works!

I've listened to three of the five of these speakers. You're being too nice to the Kanto YU2 haha... they really aren't great for the price, muffled, narrow dynamics, and hollow sounding. The A2+ is just an upper mids speaker but at least can be somewhat saved by a sub although by the time you do that it defeats the purpose of its size. Fully agree on the OS-10 being straight up amazing if you're willing to go just a bit bigger though. At first I thought it was meh, but after letting the woofer break in a bit it really does come alive. It still could use a bit more focus in the mids and more resolution but for the price I'm asking way to much already. Really curious now to try the Ora.. I've heard the Tuk but didn't like it due to being nasally sounding but that could just be me being not used to its AMT tweeter.

You dont have any space on your desk for any of them

Ha. I know 🥲 I ended up putting the ORAs on their side under the middle monitor. Not ideal, but the best I can do given my constraints. I hope to get a bigger desk someday.
@AxelPironio3 ай бұрын
@@Jasper-Tech I have a huge desk (180x80cm). Nevertheless, I can't put my Bose PC Speaker correctly because of my 2 screens. The best would be a mini soundbar oriented 20-30° upwards

23 minuts and not even 1 minute of sound description. Terrible reviewer

Sorry about that - I do touch on the general sound characteristics of each one, but I agree I could have gone deeper. Will do better next time!

I think we're seeing the beginning of a great thing on your channel! For a 20+ minute "sit down and chat" video with minimal cuts/editing, you are thoroughly chill and engaging, and I felt like I learned a lot. Keep 'em coming!

This is such a kind comment - made my day. 😃

From someone who actually prefers videos with frequency response graphs and technical analysis, it’s astounding how little the audiophile community seems to care about the speakers actually fitting on computer setup. IEMs, and even headphone focused audiophiles seem to take a lot into consideration besides just sound, but on the speaker side, where the physical shape of the transducer seem to matter the most, it seems like a lot of audiophiles just write out anything that isn’t the best on a pure “sound/penny” basis.

Ended up buying the Kanto Ora's after watching this video... VERY happy with my purchase. Thank you for the detailed video!

So glad! The ORAs really do hit the sweet spot of sound, size, and style.

Thanks for this review! Got myself a Kanto ORA since you convinced me. All they way from Manila ❤

Nice review, but im getting a hard OCD hit with the monitors. They should be all the same :) Otherwise, congrats!

Helpful vid thanks! Got here by researching the ilouds for small studio monitors. Haven't seen the ORAs mentioned as much for monitoring. Gonna look into it but I'm guessing their not designed for that as much

Let me know what you think after you do more research- I think the ORAs will surprise you (in a good way).

I have the Kanto YU2 , I do like it due to the size limitations I have. I the Swan would have been my choice but only due to the size, again the looks are not good but the Sound Quality is great. We seem to agree on most of the variables but when ORA become available in white will be the king
@Jasper-Tech5 ай бұрын
We’re in total agreement. Hopefully they come out with white ORAs soon. 🤞

Thanks for the video! I'm buying the Kanto Ora. I'm currently using M2 macbook air and it has a built in DAC up to 24/96. Should I connect the speakers through usb port or aux port for better sound quality?
@Jasper-TechАй бұрын
The USB-C port is sadly limited to 16-bit/48 kHz, so technically you'd be better off with the DAC via an Aux.

Very helpful roundup, enjoy your review style as well. Looking forward to replacing my overkill Rokit 5's with the Ora's.
