Testing to see which caulk gun truly provides the most force and which is the best value.
Please note for true force of the tool, equation (Force=PSI X Area of cylinder) was used for the data in the graph.
Example Ryobi Cylinder .785 X 818 PSI=642

I recently purchased the Milwaukee "M12" gun. I wanted to use it to dispense the Ford silicone sealant we use in the Dealership. I have to admit, I had concerns it could handle it........ The "M12" handles the Ford sealant BEAUTIFULLY!!!!! I absolutely LOVE the speed adjustment. Makes re-sealing a timing cover MUCH MUCH easier! EXCELLENT channel my friend! Patrick

I’m into the Milwaukee platform for most of my power tools. Both M18 and M12, primarily because they have fantastic tools for mechanical work. That said, it just makes sense to buy some ryobi batteries on a Black Friday sale because they have a few tools that are priced incredibly well. The caulk gun is one of those little gems. Their tire inflator is less than $30 and works great for the $$. Pin nailers and brad nailers can be picked up on sale for great prices as well. I don’t buy ryobi for heavy use but there are some tools that I don’t use enough to justify a red/teal/yellow version. The ryobi tools are also cheap enough that I can keep a couple in my off-roading tool kit

I'm invested in both the Ridgid and DeWalt line-ups, but for the price of it I actually bought the Ryobi caulk gun along with the crown stapler. For the price of them and the battery, it cost less some of the other tools alone. I think for tools I'm not going to rely heavily upon, the Ryobi line is hard to beat.
@Tools-Tested
@Tools-Tested 2 жыл бұрын
Yep for a lot of the not so common tools Ryobi has them a lot cheaper then the rest. Its even half the price of the Ridgid! The Dewalt gun is nice but its hard to justify spending 4X! Sadly I'm in the same boat, really haven't stuck with one tool company. I will say I think Ridgid is trying to make a comeback but there is a lot of competition now, Chervon with Skill and Flex, is pushing hard for market share.

Use anywhere from 30 to 100 sausages per day with the dewalt. Lasted me over 2 years and still going(the only thing is the pushing mechanism is wearing out, so sausages get a bit stuck, not as easy to remove), I think I'm definetly buying dewalt again. Unbeatable

I use the Milwaukee because when i tried using the makita where the gun had to push harder with more dense material it would stop working and back off it might have an overload sensor or something. The Milwaukee is a beast and shoots it out like nothing.

IMHO, I think you may be giving entirely too much weight in your decision to the "safety" mechanism that requires you to, in some models, engage something before you can pull back the cartridge. Surely there is a good reason for that additional feature. Why wouldn't you cover that? And is it really such a bother? I think cost/performance should eclipse all else, to hell with any feature SOME may consider a vexation.

We use the m12 urogun with the 600ml sausage attachment at work on the softer sika polyurethane(uro) and it just sends it out the gun, we have m18 guns with the sausage attachment specifically for glazing as they need to pump an absolute fuck ton of sika glazing uro which is hard as a rock and especially on cold days it can pump 5 to 8 sausages backfilling and sealing a bus windscreen within minutes

I have the M12 Milwaukee and 18v Makita. I’m going to suggest the Makita probably has the ability to stop itself if force builds up too quickly, likely some sort of jam detection. A better test rig might allow you to slowly close a bypass restriction to gradually increase force? Other than that, if customer reviews don’t indicate an issue it might just be your test setup. Thanks for the great comparison!
@Tools-Tested
@Tools-Tested 2 жыл бұрын
Another person was saying there is a big difference between this caulk gun in 12v vs the 18v even though the specs have them rated at the same force. When the Ridgid comes back from warranty I plan on testing the 18V version and see if I get the same results as the 12v. The 12v did test lower then spec on force but its defiantly a nice gun and I don't see it having issues with most jobs.

@@Tools-Tested thx for following up. Perhaps a good test would be to use some high viscosity sealant as well as the low viscosity sealant used last time. I won’t criticize if you just use the data from your first test in lieu of repeating the “box full of caulk” you ended up with the first time. :)

The ryobi is a good value, until it breaks. if you happen to throw a cured cartridge in it will destroy itself. Most of these tools will have electronics in them that will shut the tool off with a rapid force increase. you really dont want anything higher than 500lbs on any 10oz cartridges, they will break themselves. The second button on the dewalt is preferred in some applications.

I haven’t used my M12 one much yet, but the auto retract kinda worries me. It retracts a fixed amount regardless of caulking speed. So at the lowest caulking speed, it takes I think 8 seconds to extrude past what you retracted. You can literally quickly squeeze and release the trigger repeatedly to fully retract the plunger.
@Tools-Tested
@Tools-Tested 2 жыл бұрын
I can understand that, I did notice it if you were fast on the trigger it will fully retract. Would have been nice if the tension was just taken off not reversing. Low it can take some time to get back pushing.
