The only drawback in OSm is less POI, very less. because we if we don't get handheld free apps for mapping, contributor will be less. which we didn't have earlier. Now we have nice OSM apps. I don't know why still people not contribute much on OSM. They still contribute on GMaps, but when you need data, GMaps will not give it to you. Even if it is your own data. Other hand, OSM giving us whole data. People should move to OSM.

It depends on the area. There are some countries where POIs are much more dense in osm than in Google.

The app is OsmAnd not OpenStreetMap, but it looks like you worked that out in the link.... OpenStreetMap is an editable online mapping database, comparable to Wikipedia. Lots of apps use the OpenStreetMap data because it's free.. But more importantly it is the only map source that has reliable cycling/walking infrastructure on it. Google has little interest in mapping cycling/walking infrastructure. This is a huge issue in countries with cycling networks that don't appear on google maps. As a result people add cycling infrastructure to OpenStreetMap, which makes it the best cycling map, and leads to a virtuous circle of more data being added. Everything you see has been created by someone going out and gathering data. And remember, the OpenStreetMap database that's being used is like a wikipedia, so if there is an error or something is missing you can fix it. You where showing the "general" map in OsmAnd. If you had touched the globe symbol you could have had it draw a cycling specific, or walking specific map OsmAnd is a brilliant all purpose app based off OpenStreetMap, but it's worth looking at Komoot which is trying to be a specialised trip & navigation app (also based off OpenStreetMap data). Unfortunately Komoot is charging a lot of money for the maps, but I think it does a better job when calculating a route

Well yes. I would agree I guess? I'm not entirely understanding your point? OSMand does use the maps of openstreetmap and maybe there own? Yes thats great isn't that my point of my video? I've heard about koomot*? I prefer and very happy with OSMAnd+ I use every feature I can find on their I barely scratched the surface in this video about the app I just wanted to educate people that this app is great for cycling! :) happy pedaling!

Jass Kurn its OSMand all the way with me. If you find route planning weak in the application try going online and using a route planner like Route Me. They will allow you to download a .gpx file of your intended route that you can drop in the tracks folder of OSMand. The OSMand app will also allow you to switch gpx overlays on and off as individual files or all on if preferred. I use OSMand in conjunction with an externally synched Globalsat GPS bluetooth enabled transciever accessed via mock locations. All the downloaded open source vector maps and gpx routes are stored on the phones SD card beforehand which completely frees you of any roaming charges whatsoever. The system is absolutely foolproof and has never failed me yet on many an extensive European bike tour. With good planning in Route me you can break a full cycle tour itinery down into individual daily routes or even alternative plan B shorter routes for foul weather. I never even take any paper maps now just a spare phone and GPS transciever for any potential equipment failure.

Thanks for the review! Would this app be helpful for an avid hiker? i.e. Is it possible to find great hiking spots on there? Would it be able to load public trails for state forests? What about like, if you're a mile into the woods and all of a sudden you spot big foot heading straight for you and so, like you need to HAUL your ass out of there, but as you turn to run you notice a pack of rabid raccoons are blocking the way you came in so you're forced to take an unfamiliar trail, but that path ends up leading you to a cliff and if you take one more step in that direction you're going to fall 200 feet to certain death, but you don't know another way out and you gotta think fast so you pray you have enough juice left in your phone so you can pull up OSMand maps; would you then be saved or would you need to quickly formulate another plan in order to get out of there alive? Thank you.

So I was really wondering what the actual 'navigation' user interface would look like compared to each other. Do both have miles per hour and miles travelled indication for example, or how about voice guidance when phone screen is off or is not attached to the handlebars, but just in your pockets (using ear plugs). Am I able to just enter starting point and end location and press 'start' !?

Meh... 4$ that I am not going to see again. There are no gtx sharing websites, and all I wanted is to see what trails people in my area use to ride. Maps offline I can have with google maps.

I'm personally fit and able to bike up a bike path or dirt road that Google maps will not consider when planning your routes - and that often means going long ways around hills and so. In my area, Google has no information at all about bike routes but it lists businesses and gives you information about them, ability to call them, etc. I use both and both offline. For socialising rides - strava!
