I've got prescription glasses so I always struggled with sunglasses. When I first started riding, I was wearing contacts, but found that my eyes would be so bloodshot and dried out after a ride that it was unhealthy. That really limited my options on choices because I wanted prescription lenses. I ended up going with Oakly Flak Jacket 2.0, and I have been elated with them! One of the best purchases I've ever made.

Oakleys were a game changer. Once you invest in a good set of glasses you care for them, you stop abusing them and actually appreciate the optics. I've spent probably a couple thousand dollars on multiple glasses and lenses for cycling but I keep them forever and when I wear a lesser pair of glasses or lenses its immediately obvious. Not even cheap gas station glasses but somewhere in the $80-$100 range, they're just trash. I have compromised vision and am particularly light sensitive I love not having to squint on very bright day and seeing the beautiful landscape in almost HDR. Can you get a better value on the knock offs or cheaper options... yeah but performance and fit is no contest... you get what you pay for. With a smaller face I can't pull off the bigger frames I tried the jawbreaker which is great for colder days but they look absolutely ridiculous on me lol... radar, radarlock, fast jacket and flak 2.0s litter my sunglasses rack.

I find it funny when you mention lens technology. It's a clear piece of plastic that has coatings applied to it. Its not that complicated or sophisticated. Most of this superior lens technology costs 15-20 cents more during the manufacturing process. Spending 200-250 for cycling shades is not about getting a superior product it's about the brand (many owned by one company, Luxottica) and what they chose to sell it for. Many people buy it at that price, thinking they are getting what they pay for when they really aren't. The company is laughing its way to the bank knowing you paid alot of money for a flimsy piece of plastic that gets made in China for almost nothing. People need to not feel the need to impress people.

I noticed this is an old video but I want to know why the Oakley outperforms the POC. Oakley has nice lenses but the lenses on POC Aspire are Carl Zeiss lenses. In photography which I dabble in, Zeiss lenses are up there with the best, if not the best. I have Canon, Sigma, Sony and Zeiss lenses for my cameras. I also have both the Oakley Sutro Poseidon Tour de France version and POC Aspire. POCs are Swedish but made in Italy. I heard that Oakleys are made in Asia and assembled only in the USA.

The differences in these sunglasses, special snowflakeness for example, are nuanced at best. As veganism is so important to your identity that it's the name of the channel, I'm wondering how you rationalize so much rampant consumerism in the rest of your life. Consuming an extra pair of plastic, mass produced sunglasses because you like the look is directly analogous to consuming resource intensive beef because you like the taste. The only distinction would be animal rights vs labour rights 🤔 Are we stewards or are we not stewards?
@TheVCAdventures4 жыл бұрын
Your definitely thinking way to much about this for a sunglasses video. But I went vegan for health choices, not activism or animal rights. Since then, I would say animal cruelty has become more apart of it but let me ask you this. You are walking by a fence, some plastic is on the ground, do you pick it up? What if now there was a caff caught it the fence and it was thrashing about and needed help, would you pick up that plastic trash and walk away from the cow because basically you did something of equal effect? Like no way is the suffering of a conscious living animal equal too the production of a pair of sunglasses. You would help the caff in that situation and not give a fuck about the plastic. So if your saying since I like to have sunglasses, I might as well eat and torture animals, then your just a troll dude. Bottom line is that I attempt to reduce my intentional harm on living animals while keeping my diet clean and healthy. Why cant that be enough? Hey you ever smoke a cigarette? Well then you should just do heroin because its basically the same thing. Thats what your argument sounds like.

BUT, the lens started to crack at the nose piece and outer holding tabs almost immediately and within 6-8 weeks had spidered more than half way through the lens towards the top. Not cool. After some back and forth with customer service they did agree to send me a replacement lens but of course they didn't have an exact replacement in stock so I had to settle for a lower tier lens. Haven't used them enough with the new lens to see if it happens again but it definitely has me questioning the purchase.

$6 construction grade sunglasses bought at your local hardware stores. When you loose, break, scratch them you won't care. Looks 4/5, performance 5/5, sun glass tech 2/5 price 5/5. I've had some that people have complimented me on when I wasn't riding with them. Have I ever cared what sun glasses the cyclist next to me is wearing? Never!.
