In this walking tour guide we take you on a hike around Xyliatos reservoir, Cyprus. With beautiful scenery and a circular hike, what more could any keen walker be looking for?
Xyliatos reservoir is located near the Troodos mountains in central Cyprus. The roads to this destination are sometimes quite narrow and testing but you will pass through several small & very beautiful villages.
There is a large picnic area near to the waterfall highlighted in this video. This location offers bbq areas where families meet usually on Sundays to cook souvla. For those who dont know, a Souvla is a meat spit, usually lamb or chicken, loaded onto a large metal kebab spike and cooked horizontally over hot coals. The taste is unbelievably good especially when sharing with friends and family. Delicious!
Driving directions:
Follow the E907 highway and turn off as signposted for the picnic area with free public toilets. Alternatively carry on passed this and drive up the E907 for a further half a mile where you can park on top of the dam itself to begin your hike. If you choose to park in the picnic spot you will need to walk up the steps to the left of the dam to begin the nature trail but you could be treated to the waterfall if the lake is full enough. Decisions decisons! 😂
Walking directions:
We recommend walking across the dam first, with the lake to your left and following the path / signs in that direction. Keep an eye for the white hiker signs as there is a series of paths to choose from. To be honest, the walk is very self explanatory, just try to keep the lake in sight and you will be fine and hopefully enjoy the birds and other wildlife, maybe you can brave the toilet in the video on route? 😂
Clothing:
Recommended to wear proper walking shoes or boots and take water and a snack as there are plenty of rest stops along the way. Sun hat and sunscreen too even though there is plenty of shade.

I don’t need to go to Troodos . Even though it is nice , I live in NSW Australia and have been to Blue Mountains NP, Kanangra Boyd NP , Wollemi NP , Newnes Pateau at Wolgan Valley and all of these are with in a 2.5 hour radius from Sydney . Enjoy your hike anyway .

@@TravelUnravelled I haven’t been to Troodos for years but it is nice . I recently visited Butterbox point loop track . A dirt track road at Leura , takes you there and you are driving on the mountain and the road is narrow and there is no fencing . When we did the walk , it isn’t hard but the track narrows and there is a big drop down to the valley , with rainforest and a winding river which looks like a snake . I was a bit scared because there is no fencing and the wilderness is so raw . If you return to Australia , it is worth doing this hike or the Lockley Pylon hike .I am glad that you really enjoyed Troodos and your video is very good .
