The fact that Lewis averaged over 110 and still got well beaten says it all about the standard in this game, unbelievable. We all like to see a high standard, but i feel that the really close games that go to the wire are the ones that are most memorable. For instance the '92 World final between Taylor and Gregory tops this game because of the sheer drama, even though the standard was much lower.
@allantonnesen31093 жыл бұрын

@NoThankYou Le Mao Lewis was a great player 10 years ago, I agree he's sh*t now but at the time he was considered the ultimate 'power-scorer' in the game (2011-2014) & 110 averages were the norm. Then the likes of MVG & Anderson really put their foot on the accelerator and Lewis never fully recovered from his slump in form after the 2016 World Championship Final. Crazy to think these days he is the world number 40.
@prestigio652 жыл бұрын
@@WillLMC96 Never write off a former two-time world champion mate. I believe that starting this year he is on the rise again and will return to at least the top 16, where he undoubtedly belongs. He is still relatively young and has never lost his phenomenal and natural talent. Btw. I think his decline really started after the 2018 WC 1st round defeat.

It went from being the best darts game up to about when Lewis and Taylor were neck-neck at 8-8 legs a piece. After that though, it just became Taylor's charge to victory. 2013 Unicorn Phase 5 Phil Wins = World Championship, World Matchplay, Grand Prix, Grand Slam, UK Open, The Masters. 2014 Target Dart Phil Wins = World Matchplay, Grand Slam. A sudden decline like that had nothing to do with age like some people would have you believe. Changing his darts had a catastrophic affect on his game. He was never as consistent again. Hope the sponsorship money from Target was worth it Phil, your consistency was the price.

Right.. so it's not the guy throwing it, it's the dart... 🙄 you're the reason aliens won't visit us! 🙄😒
@XavierMarciano5 жыл бұрын
@@stage2frbeast585 Why has MVG used the same match darts for years? Ask yourself that. Ya top players can throw with anything but they are more consistent with certain darts. The same way snooker players tend to stick to a particular cue. My point is very valid. Phil stuck to same set for years and was winning everything, the moment he switched he barely won anything anymore. MVG despite having loads of different darts on the market, has used the same old, almost worn out darts, for years and years now. He's never switched. It's not coincidence. When the best player in the world like MVG refuses to change sets despite his darts being very worn, you know there's something to be said for sticking to a set.
@stage2frbeast5855 жыл бұрын
@@XavierMarciano because as the saying goes, 'if it ain't broken, don't fix it'.. that's why they use the same darts.. comfort! Nothing to do with the actual dart! 🙄🙄
@doobyfrooby76065 жыл бұрын
Luke Coleman ehm no. I'm pretty sure MVG would get a lot of money if he would play some different darts during the WC or any other big tournament, but he doesn't. And that will have a reason and it surely is not simply "OK, they still work, so why should I take new ones?"^^
@anthonym33515 жыл бұрын
I 100 per cent agree with your analysis. As a big Taylor fan his decline happened overnight once he stopped using his phase 5 darts. I've no interest in different dart brands, if anything I've found Target to be better than unicorn. But Taylor played his best ever darts with his phase 5's and I think would have continued winning after 2014 with them, even with the rise of Van gerwen.

I suppose it all boils down to how you judge it. MvG has only won the World Championship 3 times, but based on his current success of over 100 televised PDC events, he will blow Taylor’s total wins out of the water. However, there were fewer tournaments to compete in back in the 90’s. I suppose in that instance you’d look at the percentage of wins combined with the highest average to accurately assess who is the best.
