@@solarwalkman Correct but it didn't gain traction for nearly 2 years. Don't you remember Nintendo slashing the cost so much that they sold it at a major loss, and hoped games sales would make up for it. The first year it barely sold 1.5 million units which had Nintendo feeling concerned.

Years ago I was able to find most of a Dreamcast in a box full of stuff for $20. I just had to buy the RCA cables which were about $7, and I was able to sell some of the other things for around $18. And then my grandma decided to put the Dreamcast in a box and place it where my rabbit could get it, and I had to spend another $7 on RCA cables. So in all I got a Dreamcast for technically around $16. And then I bought Skies Of Arcadia for $60. Edit: "One day ago?!" How did you post this the day before the video released?!

@HarmoniChris5 жыл бұрын
It's often required by the company, when accepting sponsorships like these, to place the ad read within the first minute of video. I guarantee most every content creator would prefer to put their ad reads at the end for audience retention reasons, but very often it's not up to them. Refusing to place the ad front and center means not getting paid for them in those cases.

Back when I first started to get into collecting games, I remember really wanting to go to this local charity sale event. I thought this would be a good start to my game hunting so I went. Unfortunately, I missed my alarm and showed up so late the place was practically empty. Disheartened, I still looked around anyways and managed to find a FULL in box Dreamcast with BOXED controllers, like 20 games, and a bunch of accessories! The reason no one had purchased it was that the seller wanted to sell them all together but the Dreamcast was broken. Only wanted about $45 bucks for the whole lot so I bought it anyways. Took the thing to my local game store and it turned out to be a very small issue and got it fixed for free! Thrift shops and flea markets at least were my go to spots for games. When the retro market went absolutely insane something like a decade ago it started getting worse and worse. A lot of repros and cheap Chinese knock-offs not to mention the same people as before charging way more for stuff in horrible condition just because the market was way stronger than before. Luck and timing are pretty much your best bets, also finding either decent people that won't super gouge you or people who just don't know what something is worth. Sadly you're more likely to find the latter than the former.

The single most effective way I have found of getting gaming stuff super cheap is to check out thrift stores shortly after Christmas. Since it's the time of year people are most likely to replace their old consoles, and the time of year people are feeling the most generous/giving, game consoles get donated in larger than normal quantities, and thrift stores rarely price them for highly. Just this past January I was able to pick up an original Xbox for $8, a DS lite for $7, a Wii for $10, a Dreamcast for $5, and a 1st Gen 60gb PS3 in excellent condition for $50, by stopping by different thrift stores once or twice a week throughout the month (and all of them worked fine)

My 3 biggest deals are all surprisingly Nintendo finds as well, and is technically a list of 4. The first was finding a sealed copy of Banjo-Kazooie at the local flea market. After speaking with the guy and buying a few loose carts for my collection (N64, about 68ish% complete), he told me he had a couple sealed games. A couple older sports games, WWF No Mercy (which I also bought), and Banjo. He said he'd sell me both WWF and Banjo for $65. Done deal. Second was my AGS-101 Gameboy Advance SP, that I bought from a co worker for a 12 pack of Heineken. No special story, he had it, I wanted it, he wanted beer. Boom, done. Third (and technically fourth) would be how I got my Gameboy Player. I was at a different flea market, about 25 miles from my house. Came across a booth selling trading cards, action figures, and some video games. I saw the disc for the Gameboy Player, $3. Snatched it up, just figuring I'd eventually buy the Player itself and save a little money. Flash forward about 2 years, and I went to this pallet liquidation shop with my dad. They have an area where they buy product return pallets, as well as pallets of old stock items and dump them in bins. Anything you find is $2. I have been going for about a year at this point, finding some great deals. S.H. Figuarts figures, MTG FatPacks, all kinds of stuff. This time, I walk in and boom, right on top are two sealed Gamecube controllers. In my basket they go. A little digging, and theres two 256block official Memory cards. In the basket they go. Final bin, didn't find anything. My dad calls out to me and asks "what the hell is this? It says Gameboy but I've never seen anything like it." I froze. I grab it and make my purchase. Complete Gameboy player for $5.

These kind of videos always make me jealous... In Germany there is practically no Retro gaming store. The few that we have are usually run by scammers and dead after 3 years. *The best deal I ever got was on the PAL version of StarCraft 64 CiB (approx. 4000 units only worldwide)* online directly from Australia. Around 400 bucks for everything including shipping! That is about the price you usually find a lose cart if you can find any...

My best rare video game grab was getting a CIB copy of Fire Emblem: Thracia 776. It's an unusual game because it has two versions: the original release from 1999 was on the Japan-only Memory Cassette format, which was like the SNES successor to the Famicom Diskun System where you could rewrite games for cheap onto a flash cart. That version today goes for about 70 to 100 bucks CIB, which is pretty high... but has NOTHING on the second release from 2000. The second release that came out in 2000 was very limited and featured a proper un-rewriteable game cart with a stick and manual and boxwork. This version will bag you about 300 to 500 bucks secondhand CIB, but I managed to snipe a copy off Ebay back in December for only 150 bucks. Still expensive, but a relatively great grab! I'm a huge Fire Emblem fan especially for the older games too, so grabbing this for my collection was very nice.

these are all great tips, especially the first one! when i used to collect vintage My Little Ponies, i ended up going to the local flea market pretty often. one of the sellers there actually started to recognize me, and one day i came in and he pulled out a huge garbage bag full of My Little Ponies and said he’d been holding them for me because he knew i’d like them. bought the whole bag for $40 and there ended up being well over $100 worth of plastic horses in there. the guy knew his prices so usually tried to sell at market value, but since i was a repeat customer he would haggle with me and let me buy some real rarities for dirt cheap. so be friendly to your local sellers!!

I came across a sealed GameCube Gameboy player in the blister pack, the "not for resale" Legend of Zelda 4 game promo disc (opened but with the manual) for less than $10 at a local thrift shop a few years ago. I think that may be my luck for life.

Hey, my Wii's graphics card broke too! I had the same black dot issue, the pattern would appear over every single texture And when I played Super Paper Mario it was impossible for me to beat the 5th or 6th chapter because there's a cutscene where you have to fight 100 of these samurai guys that all load in through the same door at once, and the system couldn't handle it and would crash. Thought it was just the disc and spent a bunch of time trying to clean it, even bought a tool for cleaning dust and whatnot inside the disc reader But then I lucked out and bought 3 Wii's at an auction for either 50 or 100 dollars, can't remember, but got a really solid deal

My best finds both came from the same store. Local game shop that had Flintstones Surprise at Dinosaur Peak and Clay Fighter Sculptor's Cut for $5 each. They had them the day the store opened, so they were definitely great finds. I still have the price stickers on them as a sort of trophy.

The best deal I ever got was a copy of Fire Emblem Path of Radiance which I swapped an old copy of Lord of the Rings: The Third Age for. That game frequently goes for less than $5, whereas Path of Radiance is $70 or more, sometimes up to $100 if sealed.

The Virtual Boy part reminds how when I did buy my own VB with a couple games including Sonic Jam for the Saturn. Jam was priced at $105 or so, but upon purchase it was outlined only for $6. I didn't realize it until I got back home.

I remember getting a bunch of random n64 games from my mom back in 2009, one of those games were clay fighters sculptors cut. At the time I never knew what the game was, and never had any interest in playing at all. Never knew the game was so rare and we ended up selling the game at a rummage sale for $30 (we just looked at what it was selling for online at the time)

Years ago a family was doing a moving sale. I was dragging all day as my wife was set on me to follow. I hate going to moving sales as that means I'm the one hauling things by myself. We got there late & like usual my wife was able to find big items for cheap that I had to haul to our car. We basically bought the rest of there stuff. The dad was so happy he sold out he handed me a box for Free. I didn't think anything of it, until I opened it up at home. It was a working NES with 10 games! Still play with it to this day best deal ever! Can't top Free!!!
