I've been using Diablo blades for a while now, glad to see you had good results with yours because I love mine. It's also interesting to see that Harbor Freight has really stepped up their game when it comes to saw blades, drill bits and stuff like that which used to be pure garbage (HF always had some good stuff but their old blades and bits were trash). Seems like HF Hercules and Bauer brands make some pretty good stuff especially for the price.

I too have been using Diablo blades since my first saw (a Ryobi cordless reciprocating), and I've always been pleased with their performance, so glad to see that they performed well. Mostly I use saws for demolition while someone else does the cutting for construction. While I think I'd always fall back on Diablo, I'd be interested in trying the Evolution or the Hercules.

In demo work where blades are going to dull no matter what you do fewer teeth will often allow the blade to have some bite where blades with high teeth counts just start gliding. The saw used also lacked the torque for the blade. I still feel the results are valid for the general user though as most people aren't going to buy an expensive high torque saw for DIY stuff. If I'm not mistaken the saw used in testing is about a $50 saw. At the end of the day Big Blue will still be cutting, ah bashing actually, through boards when most of the other blades just try to start a fire not going anywhere.

@MTR for sure. The one thing I do like is that the thin blade puts way less load on my saws too. Your saws last longer... I build custom cabinets and yacht interiors. Diablo finishing blades are my go to.. when they are worn out usually the carbide tips will wear on one angle more than the other. So tends to naturally curve one way or the other. So I mark left or right on it and save for boat planks😂... I'm cheap/inventive. Glad they did not to bad in the tests.

Not really. These blades have varying sizes and tooth counts. What you can expect them to do is going through change due to those factors. Beyond that, all of these blades are cheap and will not hold up if you cut through nails (or harder woods). They all cut like crap after having their teeth destroyed. There is also the factor of blade geometry post cut. Some of these are far more likely to warp, bend of have misaligned teeth after hitting something they shouldn't be hitting.

Been watching for 2 years, not sure how I havent subscribed before today, just got that out of the way!! This was a great study. Certain ‘metal cutting’ blades require slower and higher torque circular saws and it would have been interesting to compare the blades on an Evolution saw which claims to meet these requirements. Anyone who has drilled steel or cut metal sheet will recognise that ‘higher speeds’ does not necessarily result in faster cutting and will, in most cases, result in shortened tool life. The effect of localised heat on the cutting edge has a dramatic effect on its wear and damage. Slow and steady with plenty of lubricant (also acting as a heat dissipater) extends tool life and ultimately ends up being faster as it remains effective for longer.
