Your diffuser necklaces are beautiful. I have a question about making one myself. I wanted to make one with my son’s fingerprint in it and gift it to my parents. I made one with Sculpey’s original oven bake clay and that does not work as a diffuser. Do you have suggestions as to a brand I could make at home that can be air dried or oven baked and function as a diffuser? Or do I have to have it kiln dried? Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi Georgia, What a sweet idea! I'm afraid I'm not aware of any oven baked clay or air dried clay that wouldn't be fragile. Perhaps one might work as a diffuser, though kiln-dried is certainly best for difusers. Perhaps there is a potter in your area who would help you out? Check your local farmer's market. Good luck!

Is it better than the stainless steel diffuser necklaces with their pads? I suppose so...

+Luz Azul Hi Luz Yes, I believe terra cotta is the better medium. It has a holding capacity and slowly releases the essential oil and it completely exposes the essential oil to the air. Plus Terra Cotta Pendants are light weight and tuck-in-able (I know; I made up that word ;-)

I like it. :) What is the benefit of kiln dried over air dried clay or other oven baked clay? Does it last longer? How long is the life of one of the kiln dried terra cotta pendants? Can you wear the kiln dried one in the shower?

+Luz Azul Kiln dried clay is stronger, harder and less fragile. Kiln dried terra cotta clay is fired at over 1800 degrees Fahrenheit. They will last a long time unless you clog the pores of the clay with carrier (fatty) oils. They can be cleaned if you do but it's hard to get them back to "new". Apart from that they can (and do) last for years! You can wear one in the shower but it will become saturated with water which will have to be completely dried out before it will take essential oil again. :-)

Is it not advised to use carrier oils with them in that case? Do they need to be cleaned after awhile? How do you clean them? I imagine the old oil in them might go bad after some time, and they might absorb sweat, dirt, and dead skin cells.
